How did she even end up like this?

Currently, she was stuck in detention for sleeping during Math. It really wasn't her fault that long and boring equations could make anyone fall asleep; the person at fault here was whoever discovered math! Now she was stuck repeatedly writing, 'I, -insert your full name here- promise to properly follow the rules and regulations of this university or I will be expelled.' She, and all her fellow detentionees - yes, that is not a word but you get the point - had to write these words on a bunch of paper until the person watching over them was satisfied.

Unfortunately, the teacher watching over them was Prof. Rowan, who was known for being very serious and strict when it came to education. Turns out, he's also very serious and strict when it came to punishments. It didn't help that it felt like the professor was intensely staring at each student in the room, making everyone - or at least some students - very, very nervous. That wasn't the worst part, however.

The worst part was that she was next to the green-haired dude.

Dell? Damien? Dean? Drummond? It was so hard to remember this guy's name. It didn't help that they had absolutely no classes or clubs together, and it seemed like this guy was a loner and very unsociable, so she hadn't really bothered to actually know his name. "Hey, Haruka." he spoke, making May nearly jump out of her chair in surprise. She hadn't expected him to actually talk to her. "You know, you're supposed to write your actual full name rather than '-insert your full name here-', right?"

May looked down at the five papers she had written on so far to see that she indeed didn't follow the given instructions.

"I-I knew that!" May protested, quickly erasing all the '-insert full name here-' she had written, avoiding her gaze to linger on Dan's (that was his name, right?) smirk. She finished erasing all the mistakes before grinning to her temporary seatmate, making a victory sign with her fingers. "Hah, see I told you! I definitely knew what I was doing, Digby!"

"Who's Digby?" 'Digby' replied back, a confused look on his face.

"You are, duh. Jeez, do you not even know your own name?" May answered, shaking her head with an exaggerated look of disappointment on her face.

"Again, you seem to not have the decency to remember my name. It's Drew."

"Oh. Hey, why are you in detention anyways? You look like one of those teacher pet students."

"I am not a teacher's pet! I'm here because... er..." May gave him a confused look.

"You know what, never mind. I'll just get back to finishing these papers so I can get out of here." Moments after their conversation had returned to a halt, May returned to fixing her papers, rewriting her full name on the papers over the mistakes she had put there only minutes before. She gave a satisfied sigh after she had finally fixed the papers.

"Are you done now, Ms. Haruka?" May tilted her head up to see Professor Rowan towering over her, his eyes scanning her papers. She immediately looked around the room but to her surprise, the entire classroom was empty – it was like no one had even been there moments earlier. "Well? You would like to go back to your room for the night, wouldn't you?"

May nodded quickly, handing the professor her papers and after swiftly grabbing her bag, she immediately walked out of the room, her expression one of disbelief. She looked at her watch to see that almost three hours had passed, when she was only supposed to be in detention for thirty minutes. "How did I manage to stay in there so long?" she asked herself, looking at the tiled floor of the school, covered by a long, red carpet – sort of like the ones you see in award shows.

She kept her gaze focused on the ground, her interest focusing and defocusing on the pattern of the carpet – you wouldn't be able to see an actual pattern unless you really looked at it. "May, what are you doing?" a familiar voice in her head – Dawn – said.

'I'm bored and my hands are sore from detention, just let me focus on this carpet's intricate designs.' May responded back, not speaking aloud.

"Yeah, but you might want to look ahead before you bump into that teacher in front of you." Dawn responded back, a slight tone of sarcasm in her voice.

'Wha-' she didn't even have time to finish her thought before Dawn's prediction came true – meaning that May bumped into some random teacher. "S-Sorry Miss!" she said, bowing her head slightly after her eyes came in contact with long, purple hair.

"What did you just call me?" a voice - presumably from the woman - asked, menace in her voice.

"I called you-" She looked up to see not a woman, but a man, glaring down at her. Now that she thought about it, that voice seemed slightly manly? "Oh, I'm so sorry sir! Please forgive me!"

He stared back at her before giving an annoyed sigh. "Fine, I'll let this slide. For now." The teacher said, before flashing the girl a smile. "So, first off, I'm not a teacher here, the name's Harley. And you are?"

"May Haruka."

"Nice to meet you, hon! Well, now I've got to go. You know places to be, people to meet – I'm a very busy man you know." The girl simply nodded, wondering what was up with this guy's sudden personality change. Maybe he was bipolar? "T-T-Y-L, talk to you later, sweet cakes!"

"Well, that was weird." May heard Misty say.

'Yeah…'

"Hmm, how about we go watch that new movie starring Nate now?" Dawn commented.

"No! If anything, we should watch that Snorlax movie!" Misty argued.

"But Nate's movies are way better than any old documentary!"

'Guys, not this again!'

"Yeah mom! I'm fine, really! And no one hasn't found out about Misty or Dawn!" May chirped cheerfully, looking at the telephone as she continued her monthly talk with her mom - and the rest of the family if they were available since Dad had always been busy with the gym and Max was studying a lot more often now what with his scholarship. "...At least I think no one's found out yet..." she mumbled the rest to herself, allowing herself to glance sideways, where Misty and Dawn were sitting on the couch in her dorm room watching some movie special.

"Well, just remember if you have any troubles, just call home, okay?"

"Okay, mom."

"Bye then, keep me updated!"

"Bye!" And with that, she ended the call with a press of a button. As soon as her mom's face had left the screen, she sighed and walked over to the couch with her... er, her other personalities? She sat down, lazily trying to figure out what movie they were currently watching. In all honesty, she was struggling in class a lot more than she would - sleeping in class, not being able to solve equations, getting lost during discussions; she had expected herself to be better in class. "Ugh."

"C'mon, we're watching a movie marathon! They have a bunch of romantic classics!" Dawn sang.

"No, Dawn." Misty retorted. The redhead ignored the Dawn's annoyed groans and continued on, also ignoring the 'Why not?' from the bluenette, saying, "She needs to study. School comes first, you silly girl."

"I am not a silly girl!" Dawn threw a pillow at Misty's head, annoyed with the insult Misty had just casually thrown her way. "And maybe May just needs to relax a little! Am I right or what May?"

"...I do need to study Dawn. Sorry, I'll watch with you guys later?"

"Sure..." Dawn answered while Misty nodded her head, proud that May was finally getting to work. With another sigh, May got up from the couch and left to her room (the dorm room had three rooms, including the bathroom). "Hey, you didn't force her to study, did you?"

"Of course not! I mean I tried to, but I never thought she'd actually do it..." she glanced in the direction where May had left. "You think she needs a study partner?" Dawn shrugged in response.

"Hey, how about we get her one?"

"Yeah, you could be her partner so you can actually learn some stuff!"

"I'm not stupid, Misty. I'm saying what if we get someone from her class to help her? Like, I don't know, a certain green-haired guy?"

"What?" The redhead rolled her eyes. "Are you thinking about helping her study or helping her get a boyfriend?"

"...A bit of both?"

"You know what? Fine. That guy does look pretty smart..." Misty heard the bluenette let out a quiet cheer. "But how are we supposed to convince him without May knowing immediately? We are pretty much a part of May after all."

"I have a plan!" Dawn cheered, pumping her fist in the air.

'She seems awfully excited about this. Maybe I shouldn't have agreed to this.' Misty thought to herself, watching as Dawn started talking to herself, planning out how to get that guy to agree to help out May.

"Sheesh, where did Misty and Dawn go?" May muttered to herself. It was lunchtime the next day, and as her new routine, she was once again sitting next to Ash and Paul, but this time, she had her notebook open, studying her notes.

"Aren't those the two girls who went with us to the movies a couple days ago?"

"What?" she looked up to see it was Ash who was talking to her, half a hamburger stuffed into his mouth. "Oh, yeah. Why?"

"It's just that you were mumbling their names or something..."

"Was I?" May asked, feigning innocence. She would not be found out so quickly - it had only been a few months since she'd gotten here. "It's just that I couldn't find them recently, maybe they went back to their hometowns or something?" she lied, hoping that she was convincing.

Fortunately, since it was Ash, he fell for her lies. "Oh, okay!" he grinned. May smiled back before catching Paul's eyes - he was sitting to the right of Ash - which were giving a confused and questioning gaze. She quickly averted her stare back to her book -she knew that it'd be impossible to fool Paul, but she could avoid him as best as she could - and continued to wonder where those two girls went.

It had taken forever, but they were finally able to trick - Misty said it was more of convincing rather than tricking, but it was obvious to most that it was nothing but mere trickery - Drew into meeting them in the library even though he was very unwilling to go anywhere with anyone, even more so with a girl (or two).

The three of them sat together at one table, the two girls staring down Drew as menacingly as possible - although in reality, they probably hadn't even looked threatening. After a minute or two of "intense" staring, Dawn spoke up.

"So, Andrew Hayden?" she asked, attempting to sound professional.

"Call me Drew. And have we met somewhere before?"

"Why don't you save the questions for later?"

"...Okay then."

"So, we have a proposition for you." Misty said.

"It involves your brain-" Dawn piped up before immediately getting cut off by the redhead.

"Dawn, why would you say 'your brain'?" Misty smacked the bluenette's head. "Are you trying to make us sound stupid?" she yelled loudly, making both Dawn and Drew wince.

"It sounded better in my head!" Dawn retorted, hitting Misty back. This quickly turned into a fight between the two, causing some looks from everyone else in the library. They continued to banter with each other, getting on Drew's nerves - ultimately leading him to hit both of them.

"I don't even know you two!" he groaned, rubbing his temples. "At least have the decency to tell me your names after dragging me here!"

"Er..." Dawn mumbled, sharing a look with Misty, whose eyes were practically saying, 'Think of something crazy!' "I'm Dawn... Bell! Dawn Bell!" she said, hoping that Drew didn't see right through her hesitation.

"And I'm Misty Strauss." Misty answered, her eyes looking away from the book on the table called, "The History of Food" which was apparently written by someone named Victoria Strauss.

Drew nodded, clearly not satisfied but at this point, he seemed like he just wanted this conversation to be over with. "Look, how about you just tell me what the proposition is?" Drew said loudly, his voice clearly showing off his annoyed state. Both blinked in confusion before two identical smiles appeared on their faces.

"Well..." the two girls started, both their smiles and Drew's confusion getting bigger.

"Can you search for a May Haruka, please." It was said with more of commanding tone rather than a questioning tone.

No audible response was made; instead, the only sound that could be heard in the room were the taps on a keyboard. Two men sat across from each other, separated only by a administration desk. "Mmm... Yes, that new student transfer? What about her?"

"I need all her files. As soon as possible."

"...Why?"

"Urgent reasons."

"Thank you." A chair was pushed back, and the man occupying the seat muttered to himself about something, a small smile on his face. 'All according to plan.'

Wow, look which fanfic is getting yearly updates? THIS ONE

But seriously, I'm so sorry for not updating this in so long. Anyways, I hope this chapter makes sense and I definitely have to update that first chapter again because it's written in a different tense. And maybe I'll edit the second chapter as well?

Please tell me of any mistakes in this chapter (or any other chapters too) because that'd be really helpful ;w;
