The Girl Not Thought Of

Kagome's POV:

I look down at Kanna surprised, "Why would you need help Kanna?"

She stayed silent as I look down at her in concern. That's when I noticed what little that was showing on her arm had a really dark gruesome bruise covering her fair skin. I took her chin in my hand and gently lift her head up to look at me noticing her wince I smile gently "Kanna are you being hurt by someone?"

She hesitates then nods her head slowly looking away from me. I sigh and sit back down against the tree. I nod "Well let's just sit here a little while until you can tell me who is hurting you. I will help you though don't worry."

We sit there for a while, she was sitting with her back against my stomach and my legs were on each side of her with my arms gently around her to make her feel safer. Suddenly she mumbles something and I looked at her confused "Excuse me? What was that?"

She sighs, "I said Naraku is the one hurting me and I can't escape." Her head is bowed low and she was playing with the edge of her dress nervously. I smile at her and stroke her hair "Thank you for telling me Kanna I'm very proud of you. And don't worry I wont hurt you and me and my friends will protect you. I promise!"

I get up lifting Kanna into my arms and started walking towards the camp the others and I set up for the night. Once I arrived I noticed that everyone was around the campfire. They all turned to me and suddenly Inuyasha got up his sword in hand "Wench what the heck are you doing trying to get us killed! Bring that thing back where it belongs!"

I glare at Inuyasha and sigh angrily, "This THING is a little girl! And she needs our help! We need to protect her from Naraku." I keep glaring at Inuyasha "And if I am such a wench you can just find those jewel shards yourself!"

Inuyasha grunts, "Damn wench…." He looks up at me and glares "Fine we'll help her but if she tries to kill you I'm not helping!" He starts to growl and walks away off to the woods, he jumps into a tree and I just sigh knowing its better to leave him alone now rather then trying to talk sense into his thick skull.

I walk over to the fire to join the others with Kanna still in my arms her head buried in my neck afraid of getting hurt after Inuyasha's little tantrum. Sango smiles at me "Where did you find her Kagome?"

I laugh, "It's more like she found me." I proceeded to tell everyone what happened and as I was telling the story I noticed Kanna start to peak out at everyone. I smile down at Kanna when I was finished my story and looked up at Sango and Miroku again. "Kanna these are my friends Sango and Miroku. The one that went into the tree was Inuyasha and the little one over there who is currently sleeping is Shippo."

Kanna gave a little smile and waved a little at Sango and Miroku and instantly Sango caved "Aw! Kagome she's so precious."

Sango sat beside me and smiled "Hi Kanna it's nice to meet you!"

At this moment Shippo decided to wake up and when he did the scene in front of him shocked him yet made him highly curious. He scurried over to us and looked up to me "Kagome why is she here?"

I smile at him and gently take him by the hand and pull him to my other side "She needs our help Shippo so she'll be staying with us from now on."

His eyes widen as he replies, "Does that mean I have someone to play with?!"

I smile at him then look to Kanna who still looked nervous about all the people around her "I'm sure you will be able to play with her one day but right now she's a little afraid and needs to get used to all of us first okay?"

He looks to me seeming to be a little confused at first before smiling "Alright Kagome! I know can I go to the flower field over there to get her some flowers?" As he says this he points toward a flower field about 10 feet away.

I smile "Sure you can but don't go too far and stay in Inuyasha's sight alright?"

He nods excitedly and runs off. I hear a sigh and look to Miroku who is in the middle of standing up "Well I will be getting some herbs and plants for supper if either of you need me. Is there anything in particular you guys want?"

Sango and I look to each other then back to him with a blank look while shaking our heads. Then we heard the quietest voice possible say "Can I have an apple please?"

We all looked to Kanna and I smiled down at her and said, "Of course you can I'm sure Miroku won't mind looking for some apples now would you?" I look up to Miroku and he smiles big.

"No of course I don't mind Kanna I'll get some apples no problem." He says and gives a big smile and turns to get a bag to put the plants in.

Once he started walking off I turn to Inuyasha who was currently watching Shippo from his tree. "Inuyasha would you please go hunting so we can start cooking a meal."

He grunts and jumps down from his tree but surprisingly without a word he walks of to go hunting. I turn to Sango and sigh "Well that was painless. Want to get everything ready for cooking? I would offer to get the wood but I can't really move too far right now."

We both look down at Kanna to see her sleeping calmly. Sango gives a small laugh and looks back up at me "Alright I'll take this one but you're cooking everything!"

I laugh and nod in agreement "Of course!"

10 minutes later… (Still Kagome's POV)

Not too much later Shippo ran up to me with a big smile on his face and a bunch of flowers in his hands "Look Kagome I got Kanna tons of flowers you think she'll like'em?"

I smile, "I'm sure she'll love them Shippo. They are so pretty you did a great job"

He smiled proud of himself "Thank you Kagome! When will the food be ready?"

I look around to see Sango finishing up with getting the wood and Miroku walking back with his bag full of herbs and other plants "Oh I'm sure it won't be too long we just need Inuyasha to get back then it won't be long."

I heard a little yawn and looked down to Kanna who was looking around very curiously at everything and everyone around her. I smile down at her "Hey Kanna I bet Miroku got that apple you wanted if you want to go ask him nicely I bet he'll give it to you."

Kanna looked at me with wide eyes then quickly shook her head. I sigh, "What's the matter I'll be right here watching you. No one's gonna hurt you here Kanna we'll protect you."

She looks to Miroku who is sorting through the herbs and washing and cutting them. I smile when she slowly looks back at me then to the flowers Shippo gave her. "Oh do you like the flowers? Shippo gave them to you, I know how about Shippo go over with you he can hold your hand if you like."

She looks deep in thought before he nods shyly. I smile and look to Shippo "Can you do that Shippo? I bet she'll be able to play with you and trust you faster if you help her."

He gives a big smile and nods. Gently taking her hand he leads her towards Miroku. Miroku looks up and smiles at the two "Well what can I do for you two today? What would you like?" I smile as I see Kanna look at Shippo shyly and he smiles seeming to understand.

He turns back to Miroku still smiling and says, "May Kanna and I have an apple Miroku?"

Miroku looks a bit surprised at first but then gives a kind smile to both and them "Of course you may!" He reaches into his bag and pulls out two big red apples "Here you go!"

They both smile and once Kanna has hers safely in her grasp she runs back to me smiling as Shippo follows after her. She lands in my lap and proudly shows me an apple making me feel like it's her way of telling me see I did it!

I smile "Good job Kanna you were very brave! And look at what you got from it! That looks so yummy." I then turn to Shippo "Good job Shippo you were a big help and you are such a good friend to Kanna I'm very proud of you!"

Sango came over at that moment and smiles "Wow look at you two! Those apples look so good who gave you those?"

Shippo smiled "Miroku did"

"I can give you more than that if you like Sango." We all turn to see Miroku smirking.

Sango huffs "Miroku do not start!" As she says this she is cracking her knuckles and obviously trying really hard not to hit him.

Shippo and I laugh at them, as Kanna looks a little confused about what was going on but smiled none of the less enjoying the happy atmosphere.
