Careen

Sometimes Jayne felt like he was tittering on the edge of a cliff, and if he moved just one centimeter further he would fall. It scared him, though he'd never admit it, that he could plummet at any second and there was practically nothing he could do about it.

He knew Mal had boundaries. He had made that abundantly clear when he had first joined the crew - but boundaries and Jayne had never gone well together. It wasn't really his fault; he had been raised not to take go se from anyone, and with a name like his he had taken that to heart.

But Mal... oh, Mal demanded respect. He demanded it, and didn't always give it in return - leastways, not unless he deemed you worthy of it.

Jayne knew he wasn't deemed worthy of it, and that was what scared him. He always knew, always feared that one thing that might just make Mal send him careening over the edge.

Ai ya, it's been a while. Sorry. Now that it's summer and I'm out of high school, I should have more time. Fingers crossed?

Anyway, if you read it I'd like to know what you think - review?
