Over the past four years, Naruto and Satsuki had improved immensely. On Jiraiya's visits, he would bring books for Naruto. Not porn. Jiraiya would bring books on jutsu. Naruto had a pretty good idea of how summoning and reverse summoning worked, but he still couldn't recreate the hiraishin. Naruto and Satsuki are both eight years old now. Itachi is thirteen, and he is preparing for his final mission.
"Are you sure you want to go through with this? You will have to leave, and any surviving friends and family will hate you. You will be a target of the Anbu black ops." Hiruzen said solemnly as he looked at one of his youngest ANBU captains.
"I know, but before I go, I need you to promise not to let Satsuk become a ninja yet." Itachi said with a frown, he knew full well what he was getting himself into so he would do what he could to keep his sister away from this life as long as possible.
"Why? She's quite strong." Danzo protested with a frown, with the mission Itachi was about to carry would make his plans all the easier.
"Physically, But she wouldn't be able to take the mental strain. Especially not after this." Itachi said with finality, as he could see Danozs thinking about how to turn this situation to his have behind the old man's one visible eye.
"Okay." Hiruzen said with a nod, it was after all the least he could do for the boy after Itachi did what was asked of him.
"Well, I should get started." Itachi said the sadness evident in his voice. Otherwise he showed no emotion.
Hokage office a week later.
"What can I help you with Naruto?" Hiruzen asked, giving the young blonde a knowing smile.
"Do you know why Satsuki hasn't been coming to train?" Naruto asked bluntly, as he knew the old Hokage knew, and the smile the old man had given him only cemented his belief.
"Well her clan was killed by her brother, and she is distraught." Hiruzen said a grimace having worked its way onto the wrinkled face of the third Hokage.
"Wait why would Itachi kill his clan?" Naruto asked with disbelief overwhelmed his senses, he couldn't believe Itachi would do such a thing, at least without a very good reason.
"We don't know." Hiruzen said as he lied masterfully not giving the genius boy any way to find a whole through lie, short and straightforward.
"You're not telling me something." Naruto said knowing full well he wouldn't be able to get anything more for the old Hokage, it's precisely why the response had nothing more than the bare minimum.
"I have told you what you need to know." Hiruzen said simply, hoping that the boys worry for his friends would override his curiosity. Only to let out a sigh of relief as his faith was well placed in his prediction.
"Is Satsuki okay?" Naruto asked lowly no longer seeing it worth his time to try, and figure out the old man he had too many experiences to let anything slip to the best of the best there was no way he would be getting anything from his 8-year-old mind no matter how gifted.
"We haven't been able to get her to talk, and whenever she sleeps, she starts sweating and shivering." Hiruzen said, keeping the conversation heading in the way he wanted too.
"Where is she? I need to go see her." Naruto replied impatiently.
"She was discharged from the hospital yesterday. She's at her house, but you shouldn't visit yet." Hiruzen said with a frown at how the irritated Naruto seemed to be getting, it appeared like the blonde jinchuriki had grown attached to the girl.
"Why?" Naruto snapped in response.
"I think she wants to be alone." Hiruzen replied simply.
"Whatever." Naruto replied with bow leaving the Hokage's office knowing full well he had messed up when he snapped back he could tell he had overreacted, and he needed to back off.
That night he snuck over to Satsuki's house. She was crying in her sleep. He over and talked to her in a soothing voice while she slept. The next morning Satsuki woke up feeling well rested for the first time since the massacre. She saw Naruto head resting on her bed, and she knew he was the reason she hadn't had nightmares. She smiled for the first time since the slaughter of her clan and went back to sleep. The next time she woke up, Naruto was reading next to her bed.
"You woke up!" Naruto said with a small smile forming on his face.
"Yeah." Satsuki said softly, sadness flooding her eyes.
"I'm going to get your breakfast. You look skinny." Naruto said seriously, not liking how frail she looked compared to how he had last seen her.
"No. Stay here!" Satsuki shouted as she grabbed his hand, scared to lose her friend after what had last happened. "What are you reading." She asked, trying not to look too scared, but knew she failed in doing so and was just glad Naruto hadn't commented on it.
"A book on summoning jutsu. I'm hoping the hiraishin uses a reverse summon." Naruto went into a detailed explanation of reverse summoning. "If it does, I can recreate it." Then he noticed her eyes were closed.
The next time she woke up, she was sweating and shivering. Naruto had gone home, and now the nightmares were back, and she was alone again. She started sobbing until she passed out. AN: She just saw her parents corpses, and her brother is the one that killed them. She may have even been put through a genjutsu, and forced to watch everyone get killed I can't remember details like that from the anime. Anyway, crying would be reasonable for an adult, and she is eight. The next morning Naruto arrived and checked Satsuki's fridge. He made scrambled eggs and shook her awake.
"Satsuki I made you breakfast." Naruto said simply.
"Thanks." she said slowly getting out of bed
"You should start training again." Naruto said, trying to encourage her.
"I'll start once I can get through the night without nightmares." Satsuki replied with a frown.
"You were sleeping pretty peacefully yesterday." Naruto said once again trying to convince the now the last loyal Uchiha to go outside again.
"Only while you were here. Once you left, I started shaking and crying." Satsuki said softly.
"Hmm. I could get a sleeping bag and stay next to your bed." Naruto offered willingly to do anything to make his only friend feel better.
"Or I could move to the training ground and sleep with you." Satsuki said with a calm voice as she was starting to feel uncomfortable sleeping in the same place, her entire family had been killed. "We'd be able to train right when we got up."
'Sleep together? Get your mind of the gutter.' Naruto thought to do his best to fight down a blush. "Need to stop spending so much time with Jiraiya." He whispered.
"What did you say?" Satsuki asked only for her blonde friend to wave of the question.
"Sure. You can live with me." Naruto said thankful that Satsuki still seemed a little too tired to notice his blush.
"Great I'll pack a bag." Satsuki replied as she stretched out her back before rolling out of bed to pack, more than ready to get away from to place where torment resided.
"I'll go talk to the Hokage, and ask for a bigger bed, and eat your breakfast. You've lost like ten pounds." Naruto said only to receive a grunt in response.
Hokage office
"What can I help you with? If it's Satsuki, wait till she feels better." Hiruzen said, keeping his voice from sounding too dismissive, but he had a good idea of why the boy was here.
"I went to go see Satsuki. She was having a nightmare, but while I'm with her, she sheep's quietly. Anyway, she said she wanted to stay with me." Naruto explained simply, getting a "hmmm" in response from the old Hokage.
"I see. If you want, I can tell her that you would rather she didn't." Hiruzen said after a few seconds.
"I came to ask for a bigger bed." Naruto said simply.
"You want to live with her?" Hiruzen asked in surprise.
"She is like a sister to me. I've spent the majority of every day with her for the past four years." Naruto said, trying to explain himself.
"Hmm, But a boy and a girl living alone together." Hiruzen said as he frowned, he didn't know if this would be a good thing or not.
"We're eight. Get your mind out of the gutter." Naruto said with huf trying his best to fight down his blush once again.
"I'm the Hokage. Don't speak to me that way." Hiruzen said, getting slightly annoyed as to how demanding Naruto had been as of recent.
"Can I have a bigger bed?" Naruto asked, ignoring the man's ire.
"Yes." Hiruzen sighed. "Just don't make me regret doing this in like five years."
"I promise I won't do it with her without letting you know first." Naruto said sarcastically.
"How do you know about that?" Hiruzen asked, unsure of how an eight-year would know about the birds and the bees.
"Sometimes, Jiraiya asks me to proofread for him. His punctuation is horrible." Naruto said simply.
"Sometimes it's hard to believe your eight." Hiruzen said, letting another sigh, it seemed like he would have to inform Jiraiya about relevant literature for eight-year-olds.
"That's a compliment, right?" Naruto asked.
"It isn't an insult." Hiruzen replied with a shrug.
"When will the new bed arrive?" Naruto asked.
"I don't know," Hiruzen said only moving his attention back to paperwork built up on his desk.
"You have been as helpful as always." Naruto said snidely before leaving the room.
"You behave yourself. Remember, don't make me regret allowing this." Hiruzen said.
"I know." Naruto said as he jumped out head first.
With Satsuki
Meanwhile, Satsuki had finished packing her essentials and was on her way to Naruto's house. She passed the restaurant where her parents had taken her on her last birthday. Silent tears started rolling down her cheeks. When she arrived, she went up to bed and waited for Naruto. When he came, he saw her sitting on his bed.
"Hey, Satsuki. Did you eat?" Naruto asked hopefully.
"No." Satsuki shrugged. "I wasn't hungry."
"You need to eat." Naruto said with a frown.
"You're not my mom." Satsuki said she thought about what she had just said and started crying. Naruto stood there feeling super uncomfortable. He went over to her, wondering if it was safe to try and console her. He sat down next to her, and she just started crying into his chest.
"It's okay." Naruto said, trying to comfort his friend.
"No, it's not." Satsuki cried out angrily.
"I'll take care of you. You'll be fine." Naruto said as he pulled her closer to him.
"Thanks." Was all she could sob out.
"And you need to eat." Naruto said once again.
"Eating won't kill Itachi." Satsuki grumbled out.
"You won't either if you don't eat." Naruto said in response.
"Shut up. Go away. Stop being so logical and nice." Satsuki said, staring daggers at him with red eyes.
"I don't want to alarm you, but your eyes are super red." Naruto said.
"I'm crying stupid." Satsuki said with a glare.
"No they're red, and there are dots in them." Naruto said with a frown.
"Huh?" Satsuki said, going to a mirror. 'My Sharingan.'
"You okay?" Naruto asked still pretty weirded out.
"Yeah, I have awakened my Sharingan." Satsuki said as a smile was working its way onto her face.
"Are you hungry now?" Naruto asked hopefully.
"Be quiet." Satsuki grunted out.
"Okay." Naruto said with a shrug.
Then she mumbled. "I want barbecue."
"You should have just said so. I'll go see the Hokage. I'll ask him to take us out." Naruto said with a smirk it seemed he had another chance to have a discussion with the old man again.
Hokage office
"What do you want now?" Hiruzen asked sigh of disbelief.
"Well Satsuki wants barbecue, and" Naruto began.
"You want me to pay." Hiruzen finished.
"Yes." Naruto said happily.
"No." Hiruzen replied.
"But it's a special occasion." Naruto protested.
"Come here." Hiruzen said. Naruto went over. "Naruto you need to understand that having a traumatized friend sleeping with you isn't something to celebrate." Hiruzen whispered.
"No Satsuki got her sharingan." Naruto said with a smirk.
"What? But she's only eight. I'll take you out." Hiruzen said. "Kakashi!"
A masked man appeared."Sir?"
"Arrange for a council meeting tomorrow morning." Hiruzen said simply.
"Sir." Kakashi said vanishing.
"Is she in trouble?" Naruto asked with a frown.
"No, but she'll be getting special training soon. Don't worry about it." Hiruzen replied, dismissing the boy's worries.
"I'll go get Satsuki, and we can get dinner together." Naruto said, deciding to focus on getting his friend fed.
The next morning small council
"Satsuki Uchiha has awakened her Sharingan." Hiruzen said as he began the meeting.
"Really? She's only eight, right?" Koharu asked skeptically.
"Yes, she is eight." Hiruzen confirmed for her.
"She should start training genjutsu now. We need to be able to control the nine tailed fox as soon as possible." Danzo said quickly causing Hiruzen to frown.
"I agree." Homura said as he nodded to Danzo, who simply nodded back.
"I'll train her myself if none of you object, I am prepared to begin her training immediately." Danzo said as a small smirk was making its way onto his face.
"She should be trained by someone who actually has the Sharingan, and because the Uchiha were killed, that person is Kakashi." Hiruzen said, glaring down his ex-teammate.
"I agree." Homura said.
"What will Naruto do while Satsuki trains?" Koharu asked.
"He has been studying summoning and trying to recreate the hiraishin." Hiruzen said causing most of the counselors to nod.
"Can he do it?" Koharu asked, having her own doubts.
"Maybe. He's been reading since he was three, and he's been studying that jutsu since he was four. So he might figure it out." Hiruzen said with reassurance.
"We'll call Kakashi they need to start immediately." Homura said.
"Speaking of those two, why aren't they ninja yet? They're chunin level at least." Koharu said causing many of the other councilors to nod in agreement.
"Yes, they are exceptionally strong. Why can't they start earning a little money for the village?" Homura asked.
"Itachi said they weren't ready." Hiruzen said simply.
"Hmm. Maybe we should test them. Have a few Anbu try to kidnap them or something." Danzo suggested.
"Anbu is a bit extreme, but something like that. Itachi fought in the last ninja war at four years old. For him, trauma built character." Koharu said.
"Are any groups of thugs nearby? If so we can send them on an assassination mission. Show them what death really is." Homura said.
'They want eight year olds to see what death is?' Hiruzen thought.
"Yes, there is a group of simple criminals twenty miles from here. They're becoming a problem, but it felt wrong to send Anbu after such week opponents." Danzo said.
"Sounds perfect. If Naruto and Satsuki kill them, they won't hesitate to strike when it matters." Homura said.
"You are talking about eight-year-olds." Hiruzen said in disbelief.
"Age doesn't determine rank." Danzo stated the simple fact.
"Fine, we'll talk to them see what they think," Hiruzen said. 'I can't believe we're training children not to mind killing people.'
When they were asked if they wanted an assassination mission, they were thrilled.
Danzo gave them real anbu swords.
"Okay twenty miles to the south there are caves next to the road and thugs are living in them. Your mission is to go in and wipe them out. No quarter. Spare none." Danzo said.
"How many will there be?" Naruto asked.
"They've only struck at night, so we don't know, but the caves they have taken up residence in go back into the mountains for miles so there could be hundreds," Danzo said. "Get going."
When they arrived, they went in together. They started their killing spree around ten minutes after they began to they just stopped wiping the blood off their faces. Their targets never saw them, but they always saw their targets. The ones that weren't sleeping were drinking, or rapping captives, usually at the same time. By the time they got back out, they were covered in blood.
They were thinking similar thoughts. 'That was not how I thought it would be. They bled way more than I thought they would, I mean it was just spurting out. Why is blood so sticky?'
They arrived at the village gates covered in blood. The guards barely recognized them. They were immediately escorted to the Hokage.
"How do you feel?" Hiruzen asked.
"Sticky." Satsuki said.
Naruto sat down getting blood all over a chair.
"No." Hiruzen said, but it was to late.
"What?" Naruto asked standing back up.
"Blood stains idiot." Hiruzen said trying to get some of the blood off with a tissue."
"Oh yeah how are we gonna get the blood out of these clothes? It's everywhere. Even on the inside." Naruto said.
"I'll buy you new clothes. How did you feel about it?" Hiruzen asked. "Killing people."
"Well, we didn't like how the first one screamed. We felt guilty. So we started going for the windpipe so they wouldn't be able to scream. All they could get out was a gurgling sound." Naruto explained.
"Oh almost all of the girls in there were tied up and naked. Do you know why?" Satsuki asked curiously.
"Well um, they were being taken advantage of by the bandits." Hiruzen explained.
"Wait they weren't bandits?" Satsuki asked.
"No." Hiruzen said, and then he realized that Satsuki had thought they were bandits. "Wait, you killed them?
"Of course. Danzo said, kill them all." Naruto explained.
"I need to have a chat with him. Well, you seem to be okay mentally." Hiruzen said, but then he thought 'They are not mentally okay. There just not traumatized.' "Now go find Kakashi. He'll help you clean up. Next time you should rinse off before coming to see me.
"Well, are we gonna be able to get the blood out of our clothes?" Naruto asked with a deadpan.
"I don't know. Most people don't get this much on them. Try soaking them in cold water overnight." Hiruzen said.
"Thanks." Satsuki said.
"I need to go to the bathroom. Haven't gone since before the mission." Naruto said.
"Yeah you two go get cleaned up, oh and congratulations you will be given your headbands with this years graduating class." Hiruzen said trying to get the bloody eight year olds out of his office.
"Thanks." Naruto said.
On their way out they passed Danzo. He looked very impressed that they were covered in blood and didn't seem to mind.
When Danzo got to the Hokage's office, he started going on about how impressed he was, and how they would make perfect killing machines.
For the next three years, they trained. Naruto mastered the hiraishin and learned wind style and fire style. Satsuki got exceptional genjutsu, fire style, lighting style, and high skill in the assassination. Her eyes were special. They glowed and attracted attention. Both were now jounin, and they wore the official jounin uniform, but with a black body suit instead of blue.
Three years later, the Hokage office
"Call Yamato, Naruto, and Satsuki." Hiruzen said.
When they arrived, he asked Naruto if he was ready to start training to control the nine tails.
"Yes. Who's going to teach me?" Naruto asked.
"You're gonna guess at how to do it till you get it right." Hiruzen said.
"You can't find a jinchuriki who already knows how to teach me?" Naruto asked.
"Why is that a problem? We aren't at war." Naruto said.
"I'll ask the other kage. Maybe the Raikage will agree." Hiruzen said.
"All of them are in other villages." Hiruzen said.
