Luffy never thought, she just did, Zoro thought with an amused grin as she finally opened her eyes from sleep. Tugging the not-yet-awakened girl closer to her in the bed, that grin became softer, more loving.

The night before, the scents of steel and straw mixed together in a way that could never be undone, creating something new, extraordinary. Their unbreakable bond had only strengthened, but neither of them could say that nothing had changed between the two. Their relationship was closer, more intimate now, and though enemies might try to turn that against them, the swordsmen found that she didn't care.

When Luffy was with her, here, she found she didn't care about anything else. It was refreshing to be lifted of all that responsibly and battles and just the weight on her shoulders. When they left this room, they would return to being Pirate Hunter Zoro, first mate, and Strawhat Luffy, captain. But now, just for now, they were just Zoro and Luffy, nothing more, nothing less.

Zoro didn't know what was going to happen from here, but more and more she found it better to live in the present.
