This is a bit of an information chapter. I realize that it's been months since I last posted and I'm sorry to the few of you that have followed this! I will attempt to get back in to writing it. Although I'm thinking of maybe switching over to a Vampire Academy fic instead. Please let me know what you guys want, more of this, another story, both? I'll post the next chapter ASAP. 3

I unlocked the front door to find my father and three Alchemists sitting in the lounge room, two men and a woman.

"Sydney," my father greeted me, "any complications at school?"

I shook my head no and stood there, watching the other Alchemists. I looked back to my father, wanting him to explain who they were. He's never included me in a meeting with the other Alchemists, but he should. He talks about taking my Alchemist responsibilities seriously, but I've never even been in a meeting.

"Well, be on your way then," he said.

I nod once, then head upstairs. Instead of taking the last few steps to my room, I hunch down behind the wall, peeking slightly around the corner. My father sits back down and apologizes for the interruption.

"Jared, is she informed?" the woman asks.

"She knows that she's getting extra training, and that going to school will help with that," he tells the woman.

She sighs and stands up. She walks over to the mantel, where there is just two photos. One of my sister's and I, and the other of my mother.

"She was beautiful," the Alchemist remarks.

I can't see his face, but my father's tone becomes harder.

"I would appreciate your concentration, Joanne."

The woman turns back to him. "My apologies, Jared. I think it would be in the girls best interest to know what she's gotten herself into, so she can be prepared."

My father stands. "The whole point of this exercise is so that she can think in a moments notice. How she reacts is ultimately her test. Now, if you wouldn't mind, I have things to do."

The woman, Joanne, smiles before motioning the other two Alchemists to stand. "Of course. We'll get out of your hair, Jared, but please, think about what I said. The girl has never encountered a Strigoi, or even a Moroi, and she may need some… encouragement. Before she gets herself in danger."

I quickly stand and retreat to my bedroom.

What was that? The mention of vampires made shivers crawl over my body. Are they thinking of putting me with a Moroi, to test me? I start to panic, but force myself into calm breaths. I can do this. Whatever he throws at me, I can manage it.

I decide to do my homework, to take my mind off of things, but I'm soon interrupted by thoughts of my first day at school. Marcie never did seek me out again, but I'm not heartbroken about it. Adrian, however, plagues my mind. He's… perplexing. The things that stand out about him so far are his confidence and his character. He smokes, which could be considered a flaw. He seemed tense around the brown haired girl. I knew absolutely one thing for sure: I want to know more about Adrian Ivashkov.
