A/N: Setting - 1st day of school for the 4th grade elementary students of Riverdale Elementary
School

A/N: Sorry for the super late post. I was assigned to Japan for work and it got me really occupied.

Disclaimer: I don't own Archie Comics, its characters and their trademarks. Never do, never will.

Betty got up early to get ready for school. It's the first day of classes and she wants to start
this school year right. And of course, she's excited to show off her new outfits to a certain
redhead.

After taking a bath, she went downstairs to eat her breakfast. "You're up early Betty dear.
Excited to start the school year?" Alice Cooper asks her daugther as she bounces up to the dining
table with her backpack.

"Pretty much! And I want to show off this new skirt that we bought and these new shoes!" said
Betty excitedly.

Alice Cooper smiled and said, "Well, you've been a good student ever since you started school.
Just keep up the good grades and you'll always be rewarded."

"I know Mom. Thanks again for the new clothes!" said Betty as she takes a bite of the fluffy
pancakes her mother prepared.

After eating, she walked to the bus stop to wait for the school bus. As she walks down the street,
she heard someone calling.

"Hey Bets!"

"Oh hey Reg. Good morning Mr. Mantle" she greeted as a red sports car comes to a stop at her side.

"Good morning Betty. I'm giving a Reggie a ride to school. You can ride with us if you want." said
Ricky Mantle.

"Oh, I was heading to the bus stop to ride the school bus to school. But it would be cool to ride
your car." said Betty admiring the sports car.

"Hop in at the back!" Reggie said.

As Betty got in the back of the car, Rick Mantle eyed her in the rearview mirror and said,
"I guess you're excited to start the school year. You were bouncing up and down the sidewalk." He
then turned to his own son. "You should have more enthusiasm for school son."

Betty was trying hard not to laugh when she caught Reggie's look. She then smiled and turned to
Reggie's father. "Reggie's very good at sports Mr. Mantle. Maybe in time he'll also be interested
in academics. Right, Reg?"

"Uh, that's right Dad.." Betty caught Reggie's surprised look. Well, he really is good at sports.
He's the only one who can beat her at basketball.

"That's good son. Betty, you should hang around Reggie more often so you can influence him to like
academics." teased Reggie's father.

"Gross. Maybe she'll also influence me to be a nerd!" Reggie smirked at Betty while shaking his
head.

Before Betty can reply, the sports car rounded to a stop in the parking lot of their school.

"OK that's enough. Don't mind him Betty. He just can't take it that you're good at something that
he's not. Eat your lunch son. Enjoy school. No pranks, and no fighting with Archie!" Rick Mantle
hugged his son then waved to Betty.

"Thanks again for the ride Mr. Mantle!" Betty waved to the moving sports car.

Betty started to turn and tell Reggie off for what he said when she saw a flash of red hair.
"Oh goody! There's Archie. He'll be able to see me in my new outfit first thing in the morning!"
She walked to where Archie is hanging around with Jughead, Reggie now forgotten.

Reggie was looking for Chuck when he saw Betty walking to Archie's direction. "Wonder what she

sees in that freckle-snoot. Well, at least she recognizes my talent in sports." Reggie was
thinking of how Betty told his Dad that he's good at something. Rick Mantle is Reggie's hero. He
would do anything to make his father proud of him. Even studying. But for now, maybe being good at
sports will do. "Besides, I don't want that Goody-two-shoes blonde hanging around with me and let
that all-around-goodness rub off on me." Reggie shuddered at the thought.

"Hey weirdo! Whachu mumbling about?" Chuck bumped elbows with him laughing.

"Hey Chuck.. Wait, is that a limousine over there? Cool! C'mon Chuck let's check it out!" Reggie
shoved Chuck to the direction of the limousine.

"Must be a new student. Don't know anyone around riverdale that has a limousine" Chuck wondered.

As they were approaching the limousine, the chaffeur went around and opened the passenger door. A
very pretty girl with a snobbish look came out, wearing expensive clothes.

"Hey, Chuck. She's pretty cute. And rich too. Hmm.. maybe richer than us." He then saw Archie and
Betty approaching. He looked at and Betty and was surprised to see an annoyed look at her face.
She never looked like that when she's with Archie.

"Hey Reg. That's new girl looks pretty rich, huh? I wonder what her name is?" Archie gestured to
the new girl entering the school.

"She seems to be our age. Maybe she'll be in class. Well, see you inside. Nancy seems to be
calling me." Betty ran to where Nancy still with an annoyed look at her face.

"See you around Carrot-top! C'mon Chuck. I have to prepare my new prank for the Bee!" Reggie ran
to the school lobby thinking about the new girl. But why is the face of that Goody-two-shoes Betty
also registering in his mind? Well, his guess is probably right on why she looks so annoyed a
while ago. She seems to be wearing a new outfit, probably to impress Archie. "Trust that Carrot-
top to notice the new girl but not Betty's new outfit. Serves her right for being too goody-
goody."

"Hey, you're mumbling again! Race you to the classroom!" Chuck shoved him and dashed upstairs.

"Not fair! I'll get you with my new prank later!" Reggie shouted as he tried to catch up with
Chuck, still trying to get Betty's annoyed look from his mind.
