Vali looked out of the open shutters of the window, taking in the many stars in the sky. As if he tried to count them all.
Modi was wrong about them. They were Tricksters, that of which he was proud of. But they weren't monsters. He heard enough stories of his.. older siblings that honestly scared him. Fenris most of all. The giant wolf.
Narvi pokes his head into the half open door and eyed his brother curiously before he made his way inside. "Can't sleep?"
"Not in the least. I can never sleep when the stars are so bright.."
".. It's Modi isn't it?"
Narvi's words broke his counting as well as his moment of peace in remembrance of Modi and the words. Just because he was Thor's son made him act like a true brat of a prince. His bruises were healed quite well but the sting of them remained. "Odin will always take the 'good' side of the family. I want him to accept we aren't beasts.. that we are as loyal to him as any Asgardian warrior would be.."
Narvi understood this all to well. He was the younger yet he understood. He wanted to be loyal to the All-Father and Asgard. He wanted, no, longed to go into battle besides his father and the warriors.
Vali had dreams but they didn't all involve aiding in Asgard. More so he wanted to learn his father's tricks. Wanted to be able to put up false images of himself. "We will eventually show Modi never to mess with the sons of Loki. That I shall promise."
Narvi crawled into his brother's bed and pushed under the wolf pelt blanket. "We will see battle.." He fell asleep, happy that no fear or nightmares would haunt him as long as his brother watched over him.
Vali would eventually fall asleep with his arms crossed and used to lay his head on the window sill.
Amora watched the children grow slowly. A never ending hate and jealousy filling her. But Sigyn stuck close to her children, so attached to them that Amora could not get close enough to harm them.
Weak and worthless Sigyn that somehow found love in Loki who had posed as her love until the marriage. How dare she have caught her Loki's eye. How dare Thor have found love to. She was alone and how she wanted revenge and how she would take it..
And when Loki was alone, Amora approached him with lies and deceit. Or were they truth? She didn't know or care. "Odin will never let your boys see battle. They will not see it because he and everyone see's them as nothing but beasts in human skin.. Monsters that Odin will take away from you.."
And Loki, the trickster believed her lies and his will to restrain himself broke..
Vali and Narvi were training, old enough to use true weapons and fight beasts in the arena. Narvi stood out as a fighter full of promise, he wouldn't flee nor back down.
Vali resorted to tricks to win but how he got when he fought. He destroyed the beast that was confused as to why it's jaws went through the illusion of it's prey.
Warriors full of promise. Ready for adventure and to see the Realms beyond Asgard. Ready to see new worlds.
But how they felt today that something was not right. They bother felt it in their very soul. And when the guards approached, their worry grew into a fear..
News reached them with ease as they were escorted away, much to their mother's pleas for mercy. For her only sons, her children.
Their fear made them finally lash out against the escorts and fight against them. Demanding the explanation fully and to release them. All of which backfired and they were quickly forced down and restrained, shackled and Narvi cries out for his father.
The crowd shown familiar face. Some holding pity while others smiled at them, as if happy as to what was going on.
They were mostly dragged until they were put on their own horses and tied down before they were rode off against their will. Far across the Rainbow Bridge.. far from their mother. And on that day Vali Lokison saw Modi Thorson.. the one that insulted him, attacked, hurt him.. He saw Modi look upon the cursed brother with a sad and almost guilty expression on his face.
The news had swept over them. Loki was to be punished for the crimes the brothers didn't understand. The Aesir had agreed on the punishment, where was Thor? Where was their uncle at this time of need?
They were lead to a rocky area where the ocean slowly drifted over the rocks. The ocean breeze cool against their skin.
Fránangr's Fall was the name of this place. Where they were lead into a large cave where water flowed down the back wall and streamed slowly into the ocean. It was a beautiful place but they knew they weren't here for a kind of tour.
There they saw their father, chained like them and how his look of horror, how the pain behind the green orbs scared the Lokisons more then the crowd could ever. "No! They are my children! Please do what ever you wish of me"
Never had they heard their father with such pain in his voice. A pain that went ignored, uncaring by the Aesir who pulled and threw the sons down upon the stone ground.
Vali hit hard, pain shooting through him and a cry escaped as he felt something warm slide down his face from his forehead and onto the floor, dripping like thick red raindrops. "Vali!" He heard his father's cry. Narfi had fallen on the older's back, breaking the hard fall much to Vali's lungs having the air knocked out of them.
"Punishment will be dealt here. Let us get this over with."
And Vali would know nothing from now until the end.. nothing but regret, agony, rage, loss.. and the beast that he was to become.. the monster that he had sworn he'd never become.
Narfi was pulled into the end of the cave and placed their, shackled still. While they left Vali where he lay in a daze. They backed up, forcing Loki back but not so far back that he couldn't see.
A chant came, a dark chant that made some Aesir glance at each other for a moment as if asking the other if this was the only way.
Vali's screams came finally, screams that sounded like it would destroy his vocal cords and lungs.
The sight was almost unbearable to witness. The sounds even worse.
The snapping, cracking. The boy screaming and yelling out. They wouldn't been surprised if another Realm heard it.
Vali was forced to change with his shackles on, unable to move the way he wanted to. The muscles grew, the bones breaking under his skin and merging into a whole new form. Black hair started to come out of his skin. Blood came from his mouth as his teeth grew into sharper teeth. Hands and feet becoming paws with sharp claws on each toe.
The tail was the worse, tearing through skin and muscle, skin and fur growing on the bone.
For what felt like an eternity of cries and screams that turned to howls and roars of a animal in agony did it all stop.
Loki watched it all, tears falling until he saw the creature that was once his beautiful son.
The black wolf was far larger then any other wolf. All sense of what made it Asgardian was gone, and it felt only the hunger that the horrible beings bestowed upon it and once it locked eyes with what was once it's brother did Loki and Narfi realize what the intentions were.
And the wolf was not merciful as it shook off it's now broken shackles that couldn't take the shifting. And the monster was upon Narfi in mere seconds, the tearing and screams resumed.
The wolf's teeth found it's former brother's and how it tore the boy apart, new sharp teeth tearing and breaking the bones off. Eating and stripping the meat off the bones hungrily, not hearing it's prey's screams, not remembering or recognizing it's name.
The stream turned a deep red shade as the wolf ate at it's brother, howling in delight at it's easy meal.
He did make out one thing in his hungry blood lust from his prey. "I-It's okay Vali.. It's all alright.. I love you, brother. I love you so much" The blood gurgling in the prey's mouth didn't stop it from talking. Brother? The wolf didn't pay it any mind.
Finally pain was felt and the wolf was thrown away from the now dead boy, and only then did his senses begin to come back. That the taste of blood and flesh on his tongue become almost sickening.. that his father's screams registered and the cries of: "He's getting away!" Come into his head.
Loki was in such loss but he tried to flee. He had become a salmon and made it into the water that was blood red with his son's blood. No one saw Loki's tears, no one cared about it. To them, it was all false as if some mercy would be bestowed.
Vali turned to his brother with such a realization of fear and he crawled over and nuzzled at Narfi's body with his dark nose. His nose pushing him, whining and whimpering. Begging without words to not die, to not leave him. How he was sorry. But the glazing eyes proved that his dear brother was dead. The one he had sworn to protect. And grief filled him.
The spears came and slammed into Vali, breaking into his skin and caused howls and he did what he could do.
He fled.
Fled and didn't dare come back.
His mouth and stomach full of his brother's blood and flesh and how sick he was.
The order to hunt Vali down was issued. Claiming lies that Vali shifted, slaughtered his brother and ran. That the punishment was only to chain Loki and his sons for an eternity. All lies that they all believed.
Vali was assumed dead when they couldn't find him. Assuming he killed himself in his grief and Heimdell's Eye could not find him...
But Vali was alive, hidden and scared but he was very much alive.. and he planned to stay that way.
Grief turned to revenge. He vowed to grow stronger and destroy the ones that were there. Suicidal? Yes, but he now knew he had nothing to lose..
And he would travel the Realms. And learn to get rid of this cursed form he was forced into.. by all means necessary.
