A/N: Whooh~! The third chapter~! I'm going to stop talking now~!
Hope you like it! :D
DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN POKEMON.
Dawn gulped, convinced that she knew. Dawn hesitated. "Um, what about?" she asked, trying to sound casual.
"How do I put this?" Sarah muttered to herself. "Drew-" Dawn glanced at Drew, who was still expressionless, before looking back at Sarah. "-joined the martial arts class at school."
Dawn's palms were sweating. "I think you should too," Sarah finished, nodding approvingly at what she just said.
Dawn let out a sigh of relief. "Why?" she asked innocently, making sure Drew didn't tell.
"Remember the time when..." She drifted off. "The time you were..."
"Attacked by an assassin," Drew finished nonchalantly. Everyone stared at Drew with wide eyes.
"What?" he asked, as if he didn't say anything. Dawn gave him a look, asking what the heck he was thinking. Drew simply shrugged, his gaze on the table.
"Ahem. What your mother is trying to say is that you should learn how to defend yourself, in case it happens again," William spoke, for the first time this meal.
"Um, yeah! I was thinking the same thing, so I also joined that class," Dawn said, trying to sound cheerful. Both adults had surprised looks on their faces.
"That's great news to hear," Sarah commented in a warm motherly tone.
"Yes," Drew added. Dawn shot him a look, asking what he was doing. Beneath the table, he was fidgeting. He was definitely nervous, and Dawn could tell. By the looks of it, he was debating whether not to tell his parents.
Dawn looked across to Drew, and asked, "What's for dinner?"
"Macaroni and Cheese with a side of mashed potatoes," Sarah replied, handing Dawn a plate of food.
"Thanks," Dawn said, and took a spoonful of potato.
The room was filled with friendly chatter, from Sarah and William. They tried making conversation with Dawn and Drew. Dawn replied to their questions, briefly mentioning how the new school was and her new friends.
Drew, however, only gave a couple of nods and gave simple answers. He was definitely acting difference from usual, and this didn't go unnoticed.
He suddenly stood up, slamming his hands on the table, startling his family. "Drew, honey, what's wrong?" Sarah asked.
Drew opened his mouth, but then closed it. "Dawn," he began, before shaking his head to restart the sentence. "The attempted as-" He shook his head again, trying to find the right words.
"Drew, what are you trying to say?" Sarah asked, concerned at his behaviour.
He took a deep breathe. "It's about the as-" he began.
Dawn abruptly stood up, looking him in the eye. She saw how much her troubles had pained him. "Please don't," she murmured, averting my attention to the kitchen floor tiles.
"Excuse me," she mumbled quietly to her legal guardians. And with that, she headed up the stairs to clear her mind.
"Sir," a voice called. "She's alive."
The commander froze in his seat, deep onyx eyes widening, before recovering quickly. "You are talking about...?"
"Yes, sir," the man confirmed.
"Where is she?" the commander demanded to know.
The man walked forward, whispering an address to him.
The commander gave a nod. "Thanks for the report." The other man gave a courteous nod, before leaving the room.
A pen was picked up, quickly writing a letter in perfect cursive. Oynx skimmed over it, placing it in an envelope, yet to be delivered.
Sarah blinked, confused at what was happening. William was focusing on his food. Drew gave a sigh, feeling bad. He saw how desperate Dawn was about keeping this secret, but he knew he couldn't just sit around doing nothing about it either.
He was frustrated, and very conflicted. "Dawn!" He called, though it sounded more like a cry. Chasing her up the stairs, he knocked on her door gently.
"Who is it?" he heard from the other see of the door.
"Dawn, it's me," Drew said. "Can we talk?"
The only response he got was the silence. That was, until soft footsteps were heard approaching the door. The door knob turned slowly, revealing a vulnerable Dawn. She looked sad, no doubt, but there were no tears.
Dawn stepped to the side, as a gesture telling Drew to enter. He walked in, and sat down of Dawn's queen-sized bed. He patted the spot next to him, and Dawn sat down there.
They were engulfed in silence, Dawn keeping her gaze on the floor. Drew wanted to say something, anything to break the silence, but he didn't know what to say.
Dawn ended up breaking the silence. "Did you?" she asked quietly, hesitantly.
"Did I what?" Drew asked in response, glancing at her. Her eyes were sparkling, in a sad way. However, there were no tears. Silence returned to the awkward atmosphere.
"Tell them..." she replied, drifting off.
"No," Drew stated.
"Why?" she asked, barely above a whisper.
Drew didn't reply. Once again, he didn't know what the say. That, itself, was freaking Drew out. He always knew what to say.
"Drew, why?" she repeated, her voice a little louder this time.
"Why what?" he asked, still not knowing what to say.
"Why didn't you tell?" Dawn asked patiently.
"I," he began, before starting again. "To be honest, I don't really know."
He chuckled lightly, and Dawn just sat there in silence.
"Dawn, look at me," Drew said, which made Dawn look at him.
"Look, Dawn, you're my sister. I just... You're in danger, and I can't do anything to help. I feel helpless, which isn't normal for me. I'm just here, while my sister's in danger, and I can't do a single thing."
He looked down, refusing to meet Dawn's gaze. His chartreuse hair falls, covering his pained emerald orbs. He continued, "I just can't let you face this alone."
Dawn smiled, though Drew didn't notice. He felt two arms wrap around him, looking up to see Dawn giving him a hug.
"Thanks," she replied, with a smile. Drew couldn't help but smile.
"No problem, what are brothers for?"
She giggled. "Brothers are there to annoy, complain about and tease."
Drew gave her a playful glare, but couldn't help but let out a chuckle. "Way to ruin the moment."
There was a knock on the door. "Come in," Dawn called.
Sarah stepped into the room. "Are you two alright? What happened at the dining table?"
Dawn gave a reassuring smile. "No need to worry, mum!"
"If you say so," she said, before leaving.
"No need to worry, mum," Drew mimicked her in a ridiculously high-pitches voice.
She gasped dramatically, before playfully punching him on the shoulder. "I do not sound like that!"
"Yeah, you do," Drew said with a smirk. To his surprise, Dawn just laughed.
"Back to your old self, ey Drew?"
Drew raised a brow. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"Nothing!" Dawn chirped, with a grin on her face.
Drew narrowed his eyes suspiciously. "Alright, I'll go now." He stood up, and headed back to his own room.
He was glad Dawn was feeling alright now. He froze, realising he completely forgot to talk to her about what to do about the attempted assassinations.
Drew shook his head, deciding to discuss it another day.
Dawn felt a lot better after the conversation she had with Drew. She smiled, she was glad to have a brother like him in her life.
She quickly got changed and got into bed. In just a matter of minutes, she drifted off to sleep.
~The next day~
Dawn woke up, performing the same routine as usual. The day flew by, just about everything back to normal.
She came home from school, checking the mailbox. She spotted a light blue envelope with her name printed on it. Dawn looked at it curiously, wondering what it could be for.
Her fingers broke the seal, pulling out a sheet of paper.
Dawn Berlitz,
We are part of an assassin agency.
A/N: So... I wonder what will happen next... I feel so lame.
Please leave a review. :D
