Forget About Me
"Karai! Please, I can help you! Just come with me!"
She hesitated at the reckless desperation in Leo's voice. She knew that he meant every word, and maybe, he would do everything that he could to save her. But that would probably mean his destruction. As a mindless animal, she wouldn't hesitate to tear out his throat with her fangs . And she was rapidly losing her reason.
Leo stood like a white knight before her, offering her salvation with an outstretched hand. She longed to believe that he held the key to release her monstrous prison, but what remained of her logic told her that is was a fool's hope.
She wished that he didn't care so much. She wished that he wasn't so noble, so honorable. Most of all, she wished that he wasn't such a damn fool.
However, if he wasn't all those things, she wouldn't love him so much. He was so eager to save her life that he was willing to throw away his own. She didn't deserve devotion like this, not with everything she had done to him and to his family.
In order to keep him alive, she needed to disappear. It was the only way to protect Leo from himself.
Karai gazed up and met his pleading eyes.
"I'm sssorry, Leeeo," she hissed softly, her tongue flickering between her scaly lips. "Forget about meee."
"Karaiā¦" His voice broke wretchedly as he stepped toward her.
She couldn't bear to hear anymore. With a flick of her tail, she retreated into the darkness of the alley. There was no sound of pursuit from behind her, but she slithered as quickly as her serpentine body would take her. There was no salvation for her. Not anymore. It would be foolish for her to believe otherwise. The only thing left for her was was the dark abyss of her quickly fading mind.
But at least he would be safe from her.
