When the battle training came, everything was different. After All Might realized how little control Izuku had over his flames, he realized indoor combat would be horribly suited to Izuku's current level of power.
"SHALL WE BEGIN, MY WARDS? IT'S TIME FOR BATTLE TRAINING" All Might yelled out to the students in their hero costumes. Izuku's was exactly the same, but the Support Class had coated his clothing in a flame resistant chemical to keep his powers better contained and to keep him from catching on fire.
All Might noticed the similarities between Izuku's and his costumes, and pretended not to notice the obviousness of the costume similarities.
Ida then asked, if the class was doing the same thing as they had done in the entrance exam. Which All Might then explained that they were not.
"WHAT WE SHALL BE DOING IS TEAM BATTLE TRAINING AGAINST SOME OF YOUR UPPERCLASSMEN! A FEW STUDENTS HAD VOLUNTEERED TO SPEND THEIR FREE PERIOD TO HELP US TRAIN."
Several questions were then asked, such as "What determines victory?", "Are you threatening to to expel someone like Aizawa did?" and even "How fabulous is my cape?"
"ONE AT A TIME! MY QUIRK ISN'T SUPER HEARING!" All Might shouted out, "LISTEN UP! HERE'S THE DEAL. YOU WILL BE SPLIT INTO TEAMS OF TWO, AND PAIRED AGAINST AN UPPERCLASSMAN. YOUR GOAL IS TO CAPTURE THEM BEFORE TIME RUNS OUT USING SPECIAL CAPTURE TAPE. AND YOUR BATTLE PARTNERS WILL BE DECIDED BY… DRAWING LOTS!"
Ida was shocked by the randomness of the team ups, but Izuku explained to him how it was the most logical way to do it, as pros had to team up on the spot oftenly.
Izuku was placed on team C with Shoto Todoroki, and assigned to fight against Kaine Somnas.
Izuku watched the first two battles, Uraraka and Ida against Tamaki Amajiki, who was also known as Suneater. The battle was a battle of mobility vs versatility. Uraraka had made Ida weightless, and got on his back. Trying to use the capture tape to catch Tamaki by surprise as Ida quick ran around him. But Tamaki was able to dodge the tape and use his quirk, Manifest, to transform strategically to avoid capture, causing team A to lose.
The second battle, with team B consisting of Bakugo and Mineta against Nejire Hado. With Mineta distracted by her appearance a majority of the fight, while Bakugo had gone completely primal, creating explosions left and right, not even concerning himself with capturing the opponent.
Finally it was team C's turn. Shoto Todoroki and Izuku Midoriya against Kaine Somnas.
Just as it was for the other matches Kaine had a few second headstart to help make it a more equal fight.
"Well… not a single cloud in the sky, and the sun is at its zenith, perfect conditions for me" Kaine said as he basked in the light.
The bottom of Kaine's feet began to glow, then ice skates made of light appeared on the soles of his shoes, "Special Move: Moonwalk" he announced, then he started skating, floating a few inches above the ground and almost effortlessly moving easily twice his speed as if he was running.
Shoto and Izuku chased after Kaine at their top speeds, but he was literally skating circles around them, skating on glass walls, and was able to jump over any capture tape traps laid out.
It seemed it would be impossible to catch Kaine, until a lucky shot of Shoto's ice got one of Kaine's feet, making the moonwalk move ineffective.
Kaine created a sword of light and fought Shoto and Izuku off, while trying to break out of the ice, but Izuku noticed a pattern to Kaine's sword swings. Giving him an opening to get in close, and use the capture tape.
When Izuku got too close, Kaine exploded light from every pore of his body, hoping to keep them away until time ran out. The blast of light would have ended the fight there, but Izuku flicked a finger with One for All at 100%, creating a blast of air pushing the force created from Kaine's explosion of light back away towards Kaine.
The flames Izuku tried to suppress within his suit built up exploding the arm of the suit clear off. The blast of light had completely drained Kaine's stamina, making it easy for Shoto to wrap the tape around Kaine, while Izuku held his hand in pain. Securing victory for team C.
