(A\N-Hi readers, I am so sorry as to have made you wait so long for the next chapter but real life got in the way, but I am back and I hope you enjoy! Please r&r!) As always, I don't own Moonlight, but I do own any OC I decide to bring in. I also updated the summary to reflect the changes to the plot/story. Please also excuse any and all mistakes, I apologize if it's shorter than expected. Would you guys be open to the idea of a sequel?, I know it's early, but I need your thoughts.)
Chapter 3-"I'm Only Human Sometimes"
(Josef's point of view)-I was walking towards the apartment building of my new intern when I noticed a heartbeat that was in distress, as I got closer towards the interns apartment-I realize the heartbeat is coming from the occupant of the apartment that I was to visit. I knew that I couldn't get attached to the fact that my heart was still reeling after Sarah. This was the second intern that I have had, and most who applied were college aged.
I knocked on her door, and she answered. "Hello" , she said as she let me in her apartment, which was vacant of any signs of anyone else living there. She sits down and I also sit, she takes a breath and says, "I am Erin." She looks at me thoughtful and asks, "So, how long do you want me to intern for you?" I pause, because I really hadn't given much thought was to how long the internship should last. I mimic breathing, and say-"I was thinking at least six months and then we can go from there". She smiled and said, "Thanks so much for this chance." I grin and say, "Call me Josef." I proceeded to give her my cell phone number in case she needed me.
I think that Sarah would want me to go on with my life, and Erin may give me a second chance-and that is what I think I need. I see a missed text from Mick.
(Erin's point of view)-I was on my way to my film studies class when I started to feel lightheaded, and this time it wasn't normal. As I approach my classroom, I sit down and take a couple of Advil as that's always helped my pain. Around 2:30, I text Josef and see when he wanted me to start my intern duties-he proceeded to text me the directions to his office.
Meanwhile across town, (Beth's point of view)
I had finally finished moving into Mick's apartment, and I was driving back to Buzzwire to finish my reports for the day's online broadcast. I arrive at Mick's apartment, earlier than he does shockingly. "Oh well, maybe he got wrapped up in a case or is at Josef's" I thought, which in truth the latter is probably the case. I take off my heels and slip into a more comfortable shirt and pants. A while later, my mind started to drift and I took a nap.
(Twenty minutes later, Mick's point of view)
I could sense that Beth was in my apartment, and considering that I hadn't heard from her all day, most probably due to her workload of the day. I had the song "Love remains the same" by Gavin Rossdale in my mind. I instantly smile, because I remember the night Beth and I danced. It was like she was meant for my arms and no one else's. I could hear a soft voice saying, "Mick, Are you okay?". I hear Beth say, "I'm fine". I get my daily scotch with a blood chaser, as Beth put it when my phone rings-I discovered it was Josef. His voice was normal, but I could tell that he was smiling. "Mick, I think I am in love with my new intern." To say I was surprised was an understatement-I turn to Josef and say, "You've only known this woman for two or three hours, tops.. What makes you think you can fall in love that quickly? He sighs and says, "She's different, but like like able-in fact, I think she should meet Beth. I nodded, knowing that Josef had good intent. After I ended the call with Josef, Beth looked at me curiously. She sighed and said, "That was my editor-There is this breaking news story that she needs me to cover. Are you coming, Mick?" Something did not feel right about this, so i quickly grab my leather jacket and we both head to my car. After I got the directions from Beth, we soon arrived at the location and I dropped Beth off where her camera director was waiting. I sniffed the air near the crime scene and noticed a slight sweet smell-but I knew that humans couldn't smell the smell due to lack of powers, but I sensed that the Cleaner had been here. This would also explain the fact that the Cleaner's services were needed more often than usual. But this also creates a problem with new vampires and their sires, but more importantly the question remained-Who was the sire? Or was there more than one? I quickly text Josef and tell him about the crime scene, and after he tells me that Erin had left-he decided that it was time to have another meeting-only this time it was an emergency. I would take Beth home after she'd finished. During the drive back to her apartment, she stayed oddly quiet-but I figured she was tired since it was one in the morning.
(Twenty minutes later, Beth's point of view)-After the live on scene reporting was finished, I was taken home by Mick. It was really sweet of him to do that for me, but I knew deep down something else was bothering him. Against my instincts, I decided not to pry-at least not now, I know he'd tell me when he's ready. After I unlocked the door, I headed to my bathroom where I got back into my pajamas and hoped sleep would come back to me. But it never came, so around four in the morning-I decided that I'd make me a cup of coffee. As I was looking for a hair tie, my eyes darted towards the vial of black crystal-then Lola's voice echoed in my head. "Maybe just a little taste", I thought. I quickly opened the vial and took a couple of crystals and I just hoped that Mick wouldn't notice. Around seven, I hear a pop from upstairs which means that Mick is up. I quickly place the vial back in the drawer, and I started putting on my bracelet and then fastened my necklace. I headed downstairs and sat on the sofa while Mick was making his breakfast. After he was done, I got my cup of coffee-I secretly wondered why Mick hasn't invested in an automatic brewer, because it takes twice as long for the old fashion way, maybe I should get him one for his birthday. Today after work, I was to meet Josef's new intern, Erin. (Later that day)-Work had been stressful and I was glad to have a chance to unwind. I found out that Erin was going to school for Journalism and she was currently looking for a work study program and I stated the Buzzwire had started one three years ago. She was grateful for the chance. I made a mental note for my editor to call her as soon as possible. Later that day, I received a text from Mick saying to not come over to his apartment until later because he and Josef had a meeting with the cleaner. I secretly wondered why they were having a meeting, but it must have to be because of the spike in the blood banks asking for donations, as it prompted a story from one of my fellow anchors. I, meanwhile-am still trying to hide the fact that I took some of that vial from Mick. He would be angry if he ever knew I wanted to actually become a vampire.
(Erin's point of view)-I received a call from Josef saying that I should attend a meeting that a local news corporation was doing because he had begun to learn my desire for journalism and wanted me to further my studies in the work place. I was currently in my apartment getting ready for this meeting. I had my iPod on shuffle and when I heard "I'm Only Human Sometimes" by William Control-a shiver ran down my back, which was strange because that's one of my favorites-I was going to attend one of his concerts and decided to familiarize myself which is other body of work because I only knew him from his work on Black Veil Brides' album Wretched and Divine. I could definately see why the band wanted him as FEAR-his voice was strikingly different than anyone else's in a good way. But I couldn't explain why I was so weirded out by this song that I usually loved. After I applied my makeup, I locked my apartment and headed to Buzzwire. I sent a text to Josef to let him know that I had arrived. He sent me a caring text back.
(Two hours later)-After I had finished the beginning of the work study, I headed back to my apartment to get some much needed sleep to recharge for the day ahead. I still couldn't shake this strange feeling I had. I had been hearing from the other anchors that the spike of random attacks was happening again.
(Later that night, Coraline's point of view)-I chuckled darkly as Lawrence said that a coven of newborns had happened. Mick and the others have definately underestimated me. But I know Mick may sense something considering our past, so I'd have to keep a lower profile than I've been lately.
(Beth's point of view)-Mick had come to my apartment because he didn't want me to be alone tonight. I have to assume it's about the attacks because he's been more on edge than I have ever seen him. My phone rang, it was Josef. He asked me if I was at Mick's apartment, which was not that strange but his tone of voice definitely was, like if he was panicking or something. Eventually, I calmed him. He mentions that Erin came back to his apartment and he's interested in having a relationship, but isn't sure how he is to go about asking. I chuckled and then talked to him for about an hour.
(The next week, Erin's point of view)-The next week was spring break, so I spent the majority of my break studying for finals. However, that Thursday was the William Control concert, so I decided to take a little break from my study session and listened to his music. I started off with "Noir". I thought that was a hauntingly beautiful song. After I dressed out of the clothes I wore to the work study interview and replaced the retainers with my regular jewelry that I wore during the day, I felt my eyes grow heavy and sleep take me over. (dream)-I was at Buzz Wire interviewing William Control when I heard a blood curling scream and noticed that there was a pool of blood on the floor. William isn't exactly taken aback, and I started to wonder if he's not phased by this at all. I then heard someone in the door at a high rate of speed. I then look up and see Josef. He then goes out of the room but does not leave the building, which I found kind of creepy. But I knew that Josef was only looking out for me, considering he was my employer. I quickly take my tablet out to record some voice overs for the interview, which included William answering reader questions submitted to the site via social media.
(Mick's point of view)-I had been trying to reach Josef because the Cleaner had called me in a panicked state and I decided that if I could not reach Josef, I'd take matters into my own hands. I exit my building like a normal person, but most people just see me going to my car quickly. I headed towards Josef's penthouse and Ryder told me he wasn't there. which was totally out of character for him, as it was three in the morning. I think something must be wrong with Erin.
(Josef's point of view)-I was shaking Erin awake because I sensed she's having a nightmare. After I was able to wake her, my head wanted me to ask her what happened in the nightmare but my heart over took my head. I started humming softly in order to calm her down and if there was one thing certain-I would make sure she is protected at all times, no matter what.
