"Falling in Love. . . ." Helen whispered to herself. That was the name of the next poem written in Nikola's journal. She took a deep breath and began to read.
I just want to love
One smile
One hug
One tiny little kiss
Life without love?
Romeo with no Juliet
It's the ocean with no life, no waves
Love is what makes everything okay
Love is that samba in your chest
The song, the melody you never want to stop
The air you never stop breathing
Girlfriends and boyfriends
What's the point
If love doesn't exist
Losing love
What have you got?
Black and white
Dull
Quiet
Boredom
You're the one left behind in the race because you're walking
Tired
Love is the thing that keeps you going
Pounds in your heart
Pulses in your veins
Makes your skin sing
Love is the answer to every question
The answer to your prayers
The warm breath of God
It's the risk, the step you never take
To Heaven or heartbreak
Love is the beginning of a strange new world
The alien in the sky
If you're not in love
You're droning through sixth period English
You're watching a 3-D movie in black and white
Or watching that couple in front make out
You're moaning with the heartbreakees
Living a routine life with no flare, no surprises, no change
When you're in love, you're crazy
You take those chances, you see and feel life
You don't care what others say, wrapped in that sweet bliss
When you're in love you don't need TV or computers
You're safe in their arms
And when you're in love, it's real
No masks, fakeness or lies
Love is everything that isn't safe
It makes you shiver
And tremble
It gives you cold feet, clumsy hands
And butterflies in your stomach
It makes you scared
And sick
Because, baby, you're in love
Everything's new with no manual
There's no bubble wrap
Or a net to catch you
When you're in love, be ready to fall
And get back up and fall again
Sure, with no love there's no heartbreak
It's all smiles and sunshine, and perfect like a cozy cottage
But life with no love. . . .
It's like the Oreo with no filling
Rules that are meant to be broken but aren't touched
It's watching opportunities and chances pass you by
Swimming in the kiddie pool
Spending your life wishing, hoping, praying on a shooting star
Instead of catching it
I just want to feel the graze of love
I can't take another lonely night
What good is coming home to a cold, empty bed?
Love is blind
So help me guide it
It takes two to tango
Help me fall in love
So I'll be there
To catch you when you fall
Or fall with me
"Helen?" Nikola poked his head outside of Helen's door.
Helen quickly stuffed the black journal under her pillow. Nikola didn't seem to notice as he just poked his head in a second late. "Yes?" her voice slightly cracked.
"Have you seen this. . . .small black book?" Nikola asked.
Helen felt a chill run down her spine. "N-no. Wh-what's in it?" Helen asked. She knew exactly what was in it.
"Notes. For this machine I'm going to build." Nikola responded.
"I'll let you know." Helen smiled.
"Thanks." And Nikola left.
Helen sighed.
