Chapter Three

(An: Thanks for catching the mishap of Bonnie's teddy bear name being wrong in the last chapter. I hope everyone is enjoying the story this far. Just as a heads up, I'm currently working on a Sleepy Hollow/Vampire Diaries fic as well as a Once Upon A Time/Vampire Diaries fic. I love all these shows equally and the common factor is the theme of magic, so if you are a fan of Bonnie Bennett, these might be a few new ones to look forward to. Also, for anyone following the Thor/Xmen story "Forces of Nature", please note that I have chopped off most of the chapters and revamped it to gain fresh inspiration. As far as the other stories, they are unfortunately still on Hiatus until I find new direction for the plot lines. Sorry for the long note, and please review!)

"I know where Caroline is."

As Bonnie blew out the candles and gathered the map and grimoire, Stefan and Elena sat across from her at the kitchen table waiting on the rest of her response patiently. While Damon was out having coffee with Alaric, Elena had decided to sit down with Bonnie over breakfast and proceeded to gently tell her about the recent tragedy involving the Forbes family.

Learning that Liz Forbes had loss her fight to an aggressive cancer had caused Bonnie to feel devastated. Growing up, everyone knew the sheriff had been involved in Bonnie's life when the Bennett witch had needed her the most. After Abby had walked out on her and her father, Liz had gone above and beyond the all of duty to step in whenever Bonnie's father had found himself in over his head as a single father raising a teenage daughter.

"Where is she?" Stefan pressed leaning forward slightly.

Bonnie was interrupted from her silent musing when she made eye contact with Stefan who was starring at her her anxiously. She could clearly see the tension etched deeply in the vampire's handsome face, and she felt sympathy for him. It was was obvious that they were collectively worried about Caroline's mental state of health, but Bonnie knew that Stefan's feelings for Caroline and his deep guilt was motivating him to do everything in his power to find her. While one part of her felt an obligation to protect Caroline's right to privacy to grieve, a bigger part of her was concerned and needed to know that her best friend was safe. She knew that Caroline ran away to be alone, but if sending the man she loved after her would help her through the grieving process and shine some light on hidden revelations that they both had been keeping from one another, it would be worth it in the end, right?

Scribbling the address on a piece of paper, she reluctantly handed it to Stefan before starring at him with a troubled expression etched deeply in her mocha tinted face.

"Please keep in mind that when you see Caroline, it's important for her to know that you are there out of support and concern for her. If you push her or make her feel judged, she will only pulling away and your risk alienating her even further," Bonnie warned gently.

The brunette stared at her frowning confused. Something was up. Ever since they had told Bonnie about Caroline, she had been acting unusually cagey and strange. It seemed like her best friend was being shifty by deliberately keeping something from her, and she was determined to get to the bottom of it.

"Why are you saying this right now? Aren't you going with us?" Elena asked confused as she tucked a dark strand of her hair behind her ear.

Bonnie sighed heavily.

"I can't go. I have things to take care of here in Mystic Falls," she smiled apologetically as she cleared the breakfast dishes from the table.

Elena blinked startled. Bonnie was usually the first one to volunteer when it came to rescuing a friend from a bad situation, and to watch her stand back and not do anything was shocking to her. She recognized the person standing in front of her as her best friend, but from the way that Bonnie was acting and the dull look in her eyes made it seem as if she had become a different person. It was becoming increasingly clear something drastic had changed inside of her, but Elena was unable to pinpoint exactly what it was about the Bennett witch that had been altered. All that the brunette knew for certain was that the changes that she was seeing wasn't good and she was beginning to worry about her.

"Maybe you haven't been listening, but our friend may be in trouble and she needs all of us," she insisted, her big brown doe like eyes fixating on Bonnie sternly.

"Caroline needs space and time to think. You and Stefan knows what it is like to suffer such unimaginable grief and pain that you resorted to turning off your humanity switch. Caroline watched you both go through it and knows the risks that comes with that decision. At the end of the day, it's her choice and like it or not, we have to respect it," she said softly as she walked out of the kitchen and headed towards the living room.

Elena suddenly became angry as she followed Bonnie into the hallway with Stefan trailing not too far behind.

"How can you say that when you know that she will inevitably hurt innocent people?" she demanded.

The young witch whirled around, her pretty face darkened with anger.

"Innocent people get hurt all the time, Elena! It's a part of life. They will get through it and move one!" Bonnie exploded.

The empty fire place quickly roared to life causing the Elena to jump objects around the room began to complain noisily against hardened foundations as the wall began to shake violently. It was rare that Bonnie would allow her powers get the best of her, but something about her best friend's accusatory tone set off a chain reaction of intense emotions raging inside of her that she couldn't quite control.

"Everything okay?" Stefan asked as he stared at the two girls concerned.

Elena forced a smile as she glared at Bonnie feeling hurt and confused.

"Looks like the only people going on this road trip is those of us who haven't given up hope on friends," she said, her voice soft with disappointment.

Bonnie was about to respond when she heard the sound of the front door to the Boarding House open and shut loudly. Relieved that Damon had returned, she stormed out of the living room and headed into the foyer to greet him when she suddenly stopped dead in her tracks.

"Hope I didn't come at a bad time," Kai started awkwardly as he slowly advanced towards her.

Bonnie took a couple of steps backwards defensively, never once taking her eyes off of the man who had tortured her.

Kai could see that she wanted to rip his heart out of his chest, and part of him couldn't blame her. Diverting his gaze nervously, he felt his face grow red and his palm become sweaty. The last time he had seen her, he had tried showing her the kinder and gentler side of him but when she made it clear that she wanted nothing to do with him, he had allowed his rage to fuel his vindictiveness and he had brutally stabbed her before leaving her injured in a prison world that was never meant for her. He had done the unimaginable to her and had left her with the impression that he was a horrible person that held no repentance or guilt for anything he had done to her which couldn't be any further from the truth.

Elena and Stefan watched the chilly exchange between Kai and Bonnie and immediately became uncomfortable. The tension between the two witches was so thick that it was almost suffocating. Bonnie's fist were clenched tightly by her side, and her face was filled with a mixture of rage and fear. Just staring at her tensed body language made Stefan believe that she would attack him at any moment, and while he knew that her feelings and her actions would be justified, he didn't want any further contact with the psycho witch to further traumatize her.

"Are you sure you are going to be okay being alone with him?" Stefan asked quietly as he gazed down at the Bennett witch worried, "Just say one word and he will be gone."

Bonnie smiled reassuringly. While she and Stefan weren't particularly close, she appreciated the fact that he still made the effort to look out for her.

"Don't worry. I can handle it," she promised with a reassuring flare in her olive green eyes, "You two just focus on finding Caroline."

Elena and Stefan stared at each other conflicted before reluctantly exiting the Boarding House. Bonnie waited until she heard the sound of Stefan's red Porsche disappearing out of the driveway before settling her full attention back towards Kai.

"Well this is an awkward and unexpected reunion. I guess it slipped Damon's mind to tell me that you were back," Kai said smirking, "I shouldn't be too surprised. When it comes to you, Damon is ridiculously over protective ."

Bonnie stared at him feeling annoyed and uncomfortable. This person in front of her who haunted her nightmares didn't look like the monsters parents would tell their children about when telling them scary stories, nor did he resemble the scumbags that were shamed on local six o clock evening news. He looked like a guy who would help you find the cat food aisle in the local market or the guy who was a college student studying liberal arts. The strangers in the streets that didn't know him would say Kai was a sweet and handsome looking man, but Bonnie knew differently. She had saw how evil he truly was and that's what made her both fear and loathe him.

"Did you come here to finish the job," she asked warily, "Did you come here to kill me?"

"That is a very valid question to which the fortunate answer for you is...no. I didn't come here to kill you. You are Damon Salvador's witch. No one touches you without his expressed permission, he will do anything and betray anyone to protect you, and to be perfectly honest, I don't have a reason for wanting you dead," he explained patiently as he slowly peeled his jacket off and draped it over the back of the couch before making his way to the small bar set up that was across the room.

She stared at him coldly.

"I don't recall you ever needing reasons before," she pointed out.

He slowly turned towards her and she was taken back by the haunted look lurking in his heavy eyes.

"While that may have been true in another world, it's not true in this one," he said quietly, "I know that you are going to find this really hard to believe, but I'm not the same person that I use to be."

Bonnie took all of this information in quietly as she glared at him suspiciously. While she had absolutely no reason to trust Kai, something in his eyes caused her to believe their was a hint of truth in his story. The man sitting in front of her wasn't the same man who terrorized her relentlessly in the prison world. His eyes were no longer filled with quiet rage, and cold detachment. Instead she saw something that she had never expected to see which was sadness and self loathing.

"Really?" she responded warily, "What has changed?"

"I merged with my younger brother Luke, and during the process, I developed feelings that I were told were guilt and empathy. For the first time, I actually have a little annoying thing called a conscience," he said wryly, as he poured two glasses of Bourbon and handed a glass to her.

"So if you aren't here to kill me, what are you doing here?" she said as she blatantly ignored his offering.

A tolerant smile briefly as he stared at her quietly.

"You know...It's kinda rude to make a guest drink alone," he pointed out coyly as he sat her glass on the coffee table before making himself comfortable on the couch.

Exhaling exasperated, she reluctantly picked up the glass of Bourbon and instead of accepting his bold invitation to join him on the couch, she elected to sit on the arm chair facing directly across from him.

"Start talking," she commanded, "Now."

"Well only because you asked me so nicely... Damon wanted answers about Mama Salvador and why she is trapped in the prison world and I figured since I was bored and had nothing more entertaining to do that I could help him with his mommy issues," he explained casually as he kicked his feet up on the coffee table and crossed his ankles relaxing noticeably.

Bonnie narrowed her eyes as she she leaned forward and shoved his feet back onto the floor.

"Listen to me, Kai. If you want to try to get under my skin, fine. I'll be more than happy to take you on. Just leave Damon out of whatever sick and twisted game that you are trying to play. It's the first time in a while that he has been settled and happy, and not flying off the deep end, and I won't let you take that away from him," she warned dangerously.

She tensed as he stood up and sat on the arm of the chair she was sitting in before leaning in close to the point where he was hovering ominously over her. Forcing herself to shove back her fear and anger, she slowly lifted her head to find him starring down at her with a smile that almost seemed...affectionate.

"I don't have any interest in yanking Damon's chain. It wouldn't be that much fun seeing how I am more evolved then he is," he started slyly causing the Bennett witch to roll her eyes.

"Believe it or not, my only interest is proving to you that I have turned over a new leaf. You once told Damon that what made him different from me was remorse," he said softly as he moved closer to her, "If you can't see that I truly am I sorry for what I have done to you..."

Bonnie shuddered involuntarily at his proximity of his face near hers. Every time Kai ever came close to her, she always felt a strange electricity between them that was unsettling. He was physically attractive, but there was something more to their bizarre and unexplainable connection to each other. Whenever he would stare directly in her eyes, she felt that he could see every inch of her and all of her secrets and insecurities were on display. It was almost like she was naked and vulnerable whenever he looked at her.

"How do you expect me to trust you?" she asked coldly as she rose from the hair quickly before things had the chance to be even more uncomfortable between them.

Kai stared at her amused.

"I guess risking my own life to save you from killing yourself doesn't win me any brownie points," he noted rising off the arm of the chair and standing close to her with a deep grin on his handsome face, "Man, when you hold a grudge, you really cling to it."

Bonnie felt all of the blood drain from her face as she stared at him with tears clouding over in her olive green eyes.

"You were there?" her voice was barely a whisper as she stood frozen beneath his shadow as she stared up at him stunned.

"Damon didn't tell you?" he asked startled, before a look of realization flashed across his face and he chuckled harshly.

"Of course he didn't tell you I saved your life," he spat fuming, as he turned away from her and stared out the window,"Maybe he wanted you to continue to see me as the bad guy because if you actually knew that I was capable of change and becoming a good person, you would have to stop hating me. You would have to grant me redemption and forgive me my sins, just as you forgave Damon for his."

Bonnie took a moment to process the new information feeling conflicted.

"How can I believe that what any of what you are saying is true?" she asked warily.

"If I was lying, how would I know that you changed your mind about killing yourself because you remembered your grams telling you be strong," he revealed quietly before recounting everything that had happened the day of her birthday.

Bonnie felt at a loss of words as she searched his earnest face and realized that he was telling the truth. Being reminded of her suicide attempt bought up painful memories that were too raw and dark to deal with at the moment and she bit her bottom lip to fight back the sob that was threatening to escape from her lips. It had been one of the lowest moments of her existence. She had remembered feeling so alone, but apparently that wasn't the case because Kai and Jeremy had been there witnessing her emotional collapse.

Starring up at the present leader of the Gemini convant, she felt a mixture of emotions threatening to explode from her my deepest and darkest places. She wanted to hate him, but the man she hated was one who hurt her, not the one who went out on a limb to save her. The last thing she wanted was to feel anything resembling gratitude towards the person who had made her life in the prison world a living hell, but a little part of her did feel some sort of appreciation. His actions were proof that he wasn't the emotionless sociopath he had once been and while she knew that it was possible for people to change, she was nowhere near being ready to trust a man who had unapologetically and ruthlessly attacked her.

Kai gently used his thumbs to stroke away the wet tears on her high cheekbones. He felt his throat tightened and his unrelenting guilt increased as he saw the damage he had done to her reflecting in her eyes. Bonnie had suffered agony and despair because of him, and it was the thought of her being in pain kept him up at night unable to sleep because of guilt and self loathing. He wish that he could go back in time and take it all back, but he couldn't. All he could do was do whatever it took to show Bonnie that he had changed and hoped that maybe one day, she would learn to give him another cance.

"Bonnie."

The Bennett witch looked up to see Damon standing in the doorway with a dark and suspicious look on his pale face. It wasn't clear or not if he had been privy to her entire conversation with Kai, but something he had heard was leaving him with an arctic cold look in his piercing blue eyes.

"Why didn't you tell me Kai saved my life?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

As the vampire observed Bonnie quietly, he wasn't surprised to find that she was both confused and annoyed. While he knew that Bonnie wouldn't have been there had it not been for Jeremy and Kai intervening in Bonnie's suicide attempt, he didn't tell her because he didn't see any reason for allowing Bonnie to believe that Kai had really changed, and he wanted to do everything he could to keep her out of Kai's demented and unpredictable hands.

He gritted his teeth before staring at her steadily.

"I didn't think it was relevant," he said curtly before turning to Kai with anger in his eyes, "I thought I asked you to come by later today."

"Last night, you sent a message to me that whatever you needed to ask me was urgent so I cleared my schedule and came over at my earliest convenience," he said defensively, "If you hadn't been so busy trying to hide the fact Bonnie was back, maybe you would have remembered to be a little more specific about time."

Damon frowned as he stood in front of Kai menacingly.

"I called you because I needed answers about the prison world that my mom is trapped in. Bonnie doesn't want to have anything to do with you, so there was no reason for me to tell you that she was back," he pointed out annoyed.

Kai smirked as he folded his arms across his chest.

"I obviously don't need to be here for this, so I'm going to leave," Bonnie warned turning to walk out of the room.

"Don't leave yet, Bennett. Don't you want to ask Damon what else he's been conveniently keeping from you?" he suggested casually.

Damon rolled his eyes annoyed.

"What difference would it have made if I told you that Kai had a brief moment of lucidity and sanity and actually did something decent?" he asked exasperated.

"Decent is holding the door open for an old lady, or donating your change to the Salvation Army. Kai saved my life, and the only thing you can say to me is what difference does it make?" she exclaimed shaking her head angrily.

"Oh come on, Bonnie! You seriously can't be mad at me right now," Damon exploded his pale blue eyes flashing in disbelief.

Turning away from him, she felt sad and disappointed. Damon always had to have his way and get what he wanted and it didn't matter who he had hurt in the process. He knew damn well that it mattered to her that Kai had risked his own life to save hers. Especially when she had truly believed that he wasn't capable of change. The fact that he had done something selfless in light of the horrible things that he had done to her in the past did mean something. It made a difference, and while she knew that her opinions of Kai haven't changed much, she couldn't ignore the glaring fat that she wouldn't be alive to even find Damon's note in the Atlas had it not been for Kai cutting her suicide attempt short.

While a part of her knew that Damon had his own reasons for doing what he had done, she still felt angry at his intentional deception. This was the very reason that it had taken her so long to learn to trust him.

"You should have told me," she said hissed angrily before turning to leave.

Damon used his supernatural agility to quickly block her path.

"Listen to me. Can't you see that this is what he wants? He wants you to turn on me so that he can weasel his way back into your good graces," he warned quietly, "Don't let him manipulate you."

Kai ignored the agitated vampire and proceeded to step between her and the angry vampire and didn't stop advancing towards her until he was inches away from her. Searching her face intently, he could see the anger, but in her olive green eyes filled with tears, he saw something else. He saw uncertainty which gave him a twinge of hope. The pain wasn't going to go away over night, but if he was going to keep trying to get on her good side, he needed a sign that she would be receptive of him. If she completely hated him, she would haven't hesitated to tell him to go to hell. She would have made it perfectly clear that there was nothing to talk about and failed to engage him in conversation, yet here they were standing face to face and the fact that he wasn't withering on the floor in pain because of her anger towards him gave him a flicker of hope.

"I'm not trying to manipulate you, Bonnie. Tell me that you don't ever want to see me again or have anything to do with me, and I will leave you alone," he vowed quietly, "I swear. I will never speak another word to you if you tell me right now that is what you want."

Watching the exchange between the two, Damon picked up on something that left him with an unsettling feeling in the pit of his stomach. There was something strange between the two witches. He had noticed it before in the prison world when they were all trapped together. The way Kai looked at Bonnie and the way she glared back at him revealed that their was more than just hostile emotions smoldering between them. Somewhere beneath the resentment and the complicated history that they shared was a strong physical attraction that neither one of them could either hide or deny.

"I...," she trailed off helplessly, "I have to go."

Before the vampire or the witch could say a word to stop her, Bonnie had disappeared out of the Boarding House as if hell hounds were nipping at her heels.

Kai moved to go after her, but stopped seconds later as if something significant had suddenly changed his mind.

"What was that about?" Damon asked flatly as he stared at Kai suspiciously.

Kai smiled innocently before facing Damon.

"I was just reminding her that despite the deep rooted hatred that she has for me, I will always be here for her," he said simply before pouring him another glass of Bourbon and flopping down on the couch and closing his eyes briefly.

If she ever needed him...

New Orleans, Louisiana

"...You know where to find me, Caroline."

Picking up her cell phone, the blonde vampire groaned softly as her bloodshot blue eyes peered from beneath her light, long eyelashes struggling to read a very long text message from Stefan that had flashed across the wide screen of her Android phone. She had spent the previous night enjoying herself out on the town drowning her sorrows, and the last thing that she wanted to do was engaged in an early morning heart to heart conversation with Stefan Salvador. Their friendship had been through the ringer lately, and while she cared deeply for Stefan, she knew that she could't be around him mourning the death of her mother while simultaneously waiting for him to figure out what he wanted from their relationship. Thinking back to the kiss they shared, a soft sigh escaped her lips. Things between them had seemed promising before her mother had died and her entire world fell apart. Their kiss had been one filed with undeniable chemistry and desire, so Caroline didn't understand why Stefan seemed so nonchalant and passive about what had transpired between them. Was he so determined to keep his guard up and protect his heart from disappointment that he would idly sit by and let something amazing pass them by? She had been so afraid of being rejected that she had fled Mystic Falls with her humanity in tact before things had a chance to become too complicated.

Everything would have been so much simpler if I would have just turned it off, she thought miserably.

Daybreak fell over the boot shaped state and was ushered in by the sound of the church bells ringing in the St. Joseph's Cathedral caused Caroline Forbes to slowly emerge from her pensive thoughts. Wrapping herself in the black silk sheets, she slowly made her way out of bed and walked towards the window. Drawing back the heavy gold drapes, she smiled as the warmth of the sun and day light bathed her face soothingly. The thundering sound of the ringing instrument was coming from the St. Joseph Cathedral Church that was located on the outskirts of the French Quarters. The architecture of the glorious building was from the Western European tradition and several rays of the sun bounced off the cross at the top of the steeple causing a ominous golden light to cast a Gothic shadow over the silent city. There was dew glistening on the vibrant and beautiful magnolia trees, the sound of dogs happily barking and yipping and people buzzing about in the streets three stories below her hotel window. The city had such a magnetic and hypnotic feel to it. It was hard to be depressed and miserable when you were immersed in the beauty and culture of the history that surrounded New Orleans.

Closing her eyes, she stretched feeling several bones in her vertebrae crack audibly and a slow content moan escaped her lips. Last night had been the first time she had been able to get any real sleep since her mother's death, and her body felt rejuvenated and her mind was calm. Jazz music poured softly through the crack of her window drifting from the corner of the street below her where several street performers were playing instruments with such reckless abandon that it seemed like they didn't have a care in the world, something that both annoyed and caused Caroline to feel slightly envious. In the city, life was beautiful and carrying as normal, but for Caroline, the reality appeared to be somewhat strange and she felt detached from the world she was gazing upon. How could life go on when the world when it had lost a truly special? How could the world continue to spin without her mom?

Thinking back on all the wild and shocking things she had been through during her short life, loss wasn't something that she was a stranger to. The death of her mother hasn't been first time Caroline had to say goodbye to someone she loved. Her father had been killed as well as one of her closest friends, Bonnie. Their deaths had been like devastating blows to her heart, but losing her mother had broken her heart and left a wound inside of her soul that was so fresh, deep and painful that it was excruciating to breathe every time she thought of the fact that she would never see her mother again.

Turn it off

Closing her eyes, she pushed the nagging voice inside of her head to the back of her mind before slowly getting dressed in a pair of fitted black jeans and a white tank top that she would wear beneath her leather and lace purple jacket. As she brushed stray tears off of her cheek, she reached for the half empty champagne bottle on the dresser before she took a deep swig before dropping it in the waste basket and making her way out of the hotel room. Her stomach was growling and she needed something in her system. While the city's air was permeated with the aroma of gumbo and spicy dishes, there was only one thing that could satisfy the blonde vampire's appetite.

Blood.

Walking down the cobblestones leading towards Bourbon Street, she kept a careful eye out for the perfect target to make her morning meal. While she didn't particularly care for feeding from a live source, she knew that starving was a worse alternative and the last thing she needed or wanted was to go of the rails because of the lack of blood in her system. Turning a corner, she shoved her hands deep in the pocket as she waited patiently for the perfect prey. It didn't take her long to find one when a commotion across the street caught her attention. Her blonde eyebrow arched intrigued as she noticed a rude drunk making a pass at a business woman waiting to catch the bus.

Moving quickly, she intervened by grabbing the guys hand and leading him towards a nearby ally.

"I see that you are looking for a fun time," she noted with a flirtatious smile as she pinned him against the dirty brick wall of the building before flipping her blonde hair over her shoulder.

He looked her up and down before leering at her lustfully.

"I'm sorry, femme, but I don't pay for sex. If I want it that bad, I will just take it," he said as he roughly wrapped his arms around her waist and placed a drunken kiss on her lips.

Turn it off

As he groped and felt her up, Caroline rolled her eyes exasperated before pulling away and grabbing the collar of his shirt roughly and staring him straight in the eye.

Don't run, she commanded, compelling him quietly, Just stay calm and quiet, and I promise you won't remember a thing

Turn it off...

Maybe it was time to lose herself to her freedom. Running her tongue across her brilliant white teeth, she began to grow excited and terrified at the possibility off becoming an emotionless vampire. She had watched Elena and Stefan become the worst parts of themselves when they had made the choice to flip the humanity switch, which had caused her to vow to never walked down that path. However, know that she was standing on the devil's doorstep contemplating embracing the dark side, she felt a wave of uncertainty and fear wash over her. She knew Stefan and Elena long enough to know that they would eventually come looking for her, and finding her with her humanity off with be devastating to them and she knew that Stefan would blame himself. While the last thing she wanted to do is hurt the people that she considered family, she truly felt that she was at the end of her rope, and the grief and pain she felt at knowing that she would never be with her mother in this life was slowly becoming unbearable with each passing moment.

Swallowing nervously, she began to listen to the coaxing voices inside of her head and the thought of turning of her humanity was becoming more harder to resist with every passing second. With one casual flick, she would be free from all the guilt, the pain, and the hopelessness that she felt. She would be free of the tears, and the painful trips down memory lane. She would be free. As tears flood down her face and she stared at her frightened and trembling victim, she knew that turning off her humanity meant that she would have to embrace a lifestyle she had exercised great discipline in not allowing her self to indulge in ever since she had become a vampire, but if that was the price to pay for her freedom, was it worth it? The spider veins began to form around her eyes, and her blue eyes went nearly black and her fangs protruded viciously as she moved her face closer to her prey.

She went to sink her teeth into her victim, when she suddenly felt a pair of strong iron like hands grab her violently by the shoulders and holding her firmly against their muscular taunt chest. She tried using her strength to get away, but whoever had her pinned down was far stronger than any average vampire. Caroline smelled a familiar expensive cologne radiating off her mysterious captor as she felt a delicious shudder involuntarily dance its way down her spine. The last thing she wanted was to engage in a physical altercation, she was not about to let some idiot come between her and a meal and get away with it. If he thought she was going down without a fight, he had another thing coming.

"I'm going to kick your ass, so you might want to consider letting me go so you can get get a head start," she warned as her anger began to surge.

"Is that a proper way to greet an old friend, love?"

The hauntingly familiar British voice caused the blonde vampire to grow still as she released her human victim who scurried off dazed and confused while holding their bleeding neck. Feeling her breath caught in her throat, she slowly turned around and her mind completely blank as she came face to face with the last person she had ever expected to see.

"Klaus!"

End note: I truly believe that Bonnie would have been a little less hateful and murderous towards Kai if she had known the reason why the garage door mysteriously opened during her suicide attempt was because of Kai and that he had risked his life when he had absolutely no reason to. That's just my crazy opinion. Anyways, I try to update this story every Thursday, and I apologize for running behind. So many projects, so little time...
