Chapter 3: New Neighbor, New Secret

Scurrying to pull together something as a welcome basket for our new neighbor, I realized how little my mom actually does for me. Ever since Rayne, she's just a drunk bitch, definitely not fit to be a mother anymore, she didn't even take the bread out of the oven while I was at school. One day I'll complain to the alpha, but unfortunately that day can't be today.

I was able to pull together a good basket, and besides, it was going to be an annoynomous gift so it wasn't a big deal. I dropped the basket off in front of the door and began to head to the town centre where Fallon asked me to meet him. Fallon was never the secret keeping type, he was an open book. Though it was curious behaviour that he wanted to meet me on a day off, when normally he's with the other earth draki, their like him, it's good for him to be with them. It's where he belongs.

When I got to the square it was filled with teenage, hormonal, female, draki who were surrounding Cassian. it was my worst nightmare because Fallon was standing right beside him. I attempted to push through the sea of raging hormones, but was unsuccessful. "Fallon!" I called, hoping he'd hear me over the sounds of every female in the pride falling all over the hottie next to him.

"Piper!" he called back, as I began stepping away from the crowd. Fallon caught up with me in no time while I was walking away. He grabbed my arm and spun me around to face him and, (unfortunately), Cassian.

Fallon parted his lips to say something but I blew up before he could even make a sound, "What the hell is wrong with you?! First you lead me to a crowd of stupid mean girls who are probably saying horrible things about me right now because you brought him with you!" I wanted to rip him to shreds so bad, but Cassian stepped in between us before I clawed his eyes out.

"Get out of my way." I said through gritted teeth, but he just stood there, refusing to move. So I went for him instead as I attempted to wrap my fingers around his throat, but he was quicker than me. He grabbed my wrists and turned me around so that my arms were crossed over my body and I was unable to move. I struggled against his grip but he was stronger than me, "Let me go."His lips were just at my ear, and his breath left a tingling heat on my skin as he spoke, "Only if you promise not to strangle me." I could barely concentrate with the warm tingle at my back where Cassian was holding me against his chest so that I couldn't move.

I was able to regain some sense of self when I said, "How can I make a promise I can't keep?"

At that he just snickered quietly, "That's a real shame, since I'm your new neighbour." he let go of me then, "Fallon shoould we go get something to eat?"

Fallon gave an exaggerated nod, "I'm starving, Piper would you-"

But I cut him off, "No."

Cassian smirked and said, "I think it's best if we go alone. Oh, and Piper?" he leaned toward me so that I felt the heat of his breath again, "I've got a secret to hide too."
