Sayu POV

"So, what are you studying?" I asked him hoping we were in similar majors. "I'm a fashion design student, I hope to design clothes for actors someday."

He leaned back in his chair, he wasn't exactly slouching, just resting.

"Is that why you draw people in class?" I looked away, even though his eyes were kind I was thoroughly embarrassed. I could feel the blood running to my cheeks. I tried so hard to be discreet... then again I needed a full page for his ref sheet.

"You saw?" I said sheepishly. I started feeling really self conscious. I had crushed as soon as I saw him, drew him during class and allowed him to buy me ice cream.

"It was a little hard not to, math isn't my strong suit so my eyes wander during class." A common interest. Or rather disinterest I guess. "Your lines weren't the greatest but the design was just my style. In fact if you can sew that I was wondering if you do commissions yet."

My cheeks must have been a deep pink, because the temperature of my face had risen considerably. If he noticed he didn't react at all, he just took out a piece of chocolate - I presumed dark from the color - and offered me some.

"No thanks." I said a little too fast. He had already been kind enough to order me ice cream, plus if I did't watch the sweets they'd start showing on my cheeks and Neck. The last thing I want is a double chin. "As for the commission, I don't have time this semester. If you'll be in Japan for the rest of university we should exchange numbers."

You're only getting his number because he's a potential client, no random calling! The longer this went on the further I went. Anyone who saw me would think I was nuts and/or had a fetish for foreigners. To be perfectly honest I was most attracted to his sense of style and his posture. When I had glanced at him during class he had his arms crossed and seemed really in tune with the lesson, almost as if he already understood the material. Is he just being modest? Right the he was leaning back against the booth with his arms laying over the top. He seemed totally relaxed. Is this... a date? This is starting to feel weird... he's too perfect.

"Naturally." he said writing his phone number on a napkin he had picked up at the front.

Mello POV

"As for the commission, I don't have time this semester. If you'll be in Japan for the rest of university we should exchange numbers." Her blush had faded and she acted more professional as she said this.

She had been keeping an eye on me since I had walked into class, subconsciously taking note of my behavior. This fact made her easily influenced by my body language. However she seemed to have broken out of the initial daze and was started to look at me with more thought behind it. her eyes scanned everything about me and I began to internally panic as the smile disappeared from her face. She might think I have some unsavory motives. I have to keep the conversation going and catch her off guard.

"Naturally" I started to scribble the number of my burn phone on a napkin I had grabbed. Afterwards I put my alias in print under it, Michael Keller. She read it as Ma-ee-ke-ru Ke-rou. "Also I forgot to answer your question. I am studying to become a detective here in Japan."

I probably should have created a deeper alias, but I had hoped sharing an occupation with her father - whom she respected - and her brother -who was her role model- would be ideal. This wasn't the case. Her inquisition ended and was promptly replaced with a sudden frown. I had crushed her fantasies completely.

"Did I say something to upset you?" Feigning worry had come easy, I just hoped she wouldn't see through it.

"Oh, it's nothing!" she was trying to be assuring but it wasn't convincing. "Actually my dad and brother are detectives. They're gone most days on cases."

She's lying, does she not want me to know they're on the kira task force? It doesn't matter though.

"Tired of hearing them talk?" As I said this a waiter came with our banana splits and sat them in front of us. They were so huge I almost freaked out. These look revolting, why did I let the plan be this elaborate? I could have just lured her to an ice cream stand. Too late now, gonna have to fake it. I took the spoon the waiter had left and plunged it into the ice cream, scooping off some of a banana with it. I tried desperately not to gag as the banana entered my mouth, it was even worse with the chocolate syrup. I don't understand how any one can eat this level of sugar, L may have been a genius but I always thought he'd get diabetes before he caught Kira.

"No, I enjoy hearing about their cases. My dad doesn't want me to get caught up in anything so he won't let me be a police officer." Or date them...

"You're a natural at fashion though."

Sayu POV

"I like fashion, and it's my passion... but there's something about cases like Kira's that just makes you wonder-" I took out my notebook and started flipping through pages "-What kind of person is he?" I posed this question as I landed on a page titled psychology. "What makes him kill? Is he truly after justice?" As much as I didn't want to think about Light as Kira, I had done extensive research into psychology, trying to diagnose my brother... and to understand him. To think for a while I thought he was just a Kira worshiper.

"He's a pitiful serial killer." I looked up and he was crossing his arms again. This time however, he wasn't radiating confidence, rather deep seeded rage. This wasn't uncommon amongst detectives, but Michael didn't try to hide it, it was personal.

"I guess."

one bite after another, we sat in silence for half of the ice cream. I watched him try to hide the fact that he hated it. As much as I didn't want him to suffer I also didn't want to tell him he needs to learn how to lie better.

"Tell me the truth." He looked up from his ice cream.

"What do you mean?" His speech was so casual, his choice of words were better than Light's. He's not denying anything so he could not know what I'm talking about.

"Did you plan this?"

AN: OH CRUD! I have been planning this fanfic for over a month and I forgot the middle part, it was also only supposed to be 3 chapters. 1 chapter for the misa visit, 1 chapter for the middle plot (I'll add it later), and 1 chapter for Sayu x Mello... I just enjoyed writing it sooooo much.
