Title: Irony
Characters: Hatake Kakashi
Bonuses: A katana, smiles, Yondaime
Hatake Kakashi had a poor memory, but he never grudged it. Memories were useless to shinobis, and no shinobi wanted to remember the cries and expressions on the faces of those they had killed. Hatake Kakashi felt that his poor memory was a strength in his field. It helped preserve his sanity.
There were some things he remembered though.
He remembers the day when he received his first katana from his father. His father had been so proud of him, saying that one day; Kakashi would become a legend in his own right.
He remembers finding his father, with a katana through his stomach, crimson blood staining the stone floor. The blank expression on his face had haunted him ever since.
He remembers the fateful mission where Obito had died. The sound of Obito's bones being crushed by the large boulder and of Rin's frightened scream. He remembers the painful loss of his eye, and the equally painful process through which he gained his Sharingan.
He remembers one of the ambushes that his team had fallen into. He was left awake but paralyzed, and forced to watch Rin being raped. The memory of Rin's shrieks of terror and pain, as well as the empty look in her eyes when they had slit her throat, with her mouth still open in a silent scream, had embedded itself deeply in his mind.
He remembers his sensei's fight against the Kyubi. He remembers how the Yondaime, standing on Gamabunta, had smiled serenely before forming the hand seals which would prevent Konoha from being thoroughly destroyed, sacrificing his life in the process.
It was an irony for Kakashi, to have a poor memory that was capable of remembering the haunting memories that he tried his utmost to forget.
A/N: As usual, all comments and criticisms are much appreciated :) Thanks for reading!
