Chapter III: Training and Admissions

Training soon began for the five Sekirei who made up the Discipline Squad as named by the lunatic Minaka. Something that earned him another trip to the infirmary after Neon smashed him into the wall again.

As for the five students from what they'd gotten since the introductions, their teacher is an infamous Dutch mercenary that had met Minaka and Takami in the past and had even been a hired bodyguard for the two scientists a few times. That explained why Minaka had hired the man to be their teacher.

At first they had thought of him to be an ordinary human when they met but he quickly changed their opinions when he first took them down with ease. His reason: they were arrogant.

Miya had despised the man since that first meeting and hell she wanted to kill him after the second meeting alongside Karasuba due to the man's insults and her pride being stung at being beaten by a human, but that turned out to be a disaster as both of them were easily throttled by the clearly more than human individual. Ever since then she'd reluctantly given up on killing him while she was ahead and instead settled for properly figuring out what this 'human' really was and probe for weaknesses. Matsu was scared shitless at first of the new teacher whom she'd already figured was not normal by any means. The agony from her broken leg at the first meeting and the defeat of Miya and Karasuba further made it clear that he was extraordinary and her analytical side wanted to know more about him. It also didn't help that he complimented her on her abilities and made her feel…safer around him for some reason.

Kazehana didn't see the man as much until the rude wakeup call. She like most of the others did not appreciate that beat down but she also was smart enough to know that messing with him would not end up well with the defeat of Miya and Karasuba at his hand driving that point home. What intrigued her more was when the man admitted that he had been able to manipulate wind at some point in his life but that ability was now lost to him, making him one to watch. Mutsu too didn't take the mercenary seriously either but the beating he got did open his eyes to him and got him curious about this man who was not like the other humans on the island. If anything he saw that the man had disdain for most of those humans especially Minaka. Not to mention the fast defeat of Miya and Karasuba when they went after Neon a second time more than convinced him that the new teacher was no stranger to fighting and not someone you wanted to mess with.

Karasuba had wanted this man dead! No if, ands or buts about it. He had insulted her and beaten her not once but twice. However, it was after the second fight that she changed her mind, mainly because Miya the Sekirei Pillar was also beaten by this man and he had proven to be much more interesting than those pathetic apes on the island, not to mention he was a more powerful warrior and also despised his fellow humans. She decided that if she could kill this man she could call herself the strongest making him her goal.

Neon had begun training his students in general combat and tactics for a week. He knew that they'd been trained in combat but from what he'd seen so far they weren't good enough with the exception of Miya, since from what he figured the other four were young children being forced to be adults and were the equivalent of child soldiers, so he decided to train them better. Not surprisingly Karasuba tried to kill him multiple times and she kept failing. Still her and Mutsu's swordsmanship had improved by a lot and were more or less equal to Miya's skill level.

Neon even added hand to hand combat training to that teaching them certain styles based on the Sekirei in question; Matsu learnt Krav Maga due to her scaredy cat attitude and her wanting to avoid fighting outright and that style fit that. Mutsu asked to learn kickboxing as it was the one that got his interest. Kazehana went with Tai Chi Quan as it complemented her elemental affinity and also because she liked it a lot. Karasuba went with Muay Thai since she loved to inflict pain and viciously take down her foes. As for Miya he stuck with just Karate since Miya is the all-round leader.

Of course Miya had questioned him about why he was teaching them these close quarters styles when they had their powers, Neon simply replied with "It's better to have it and not need it than to not have it and need it. You never know when a situation can change, which is very likely to especially in the heat of the moment."

Neon followed up that training with individual training of each Sekirei in the use of their abilities.

For Miya he mainly helped her to use her power with even more precision. Being able to cause/create sonic booms with a swing of her sword is one hell of an ability capable of inflicting massive damage. With a little more precision she can use it the right way without causing unnecessary collateral damage.

Matsu with her abilities was basically a hacker and support. She'll just have to take control of any machine/tech and she can wreak havoc on the battlefield. All he did was play chess games with her to sharpen her mind which she caught on to and diligently rolled with it or let her mess around with a computer he gave her to train her hacking skills and she impressed him even more with that.

Mutsu, like Karasuba and Miya used a sword but he had his ability to manipulate the earth to create stalagmites and so on to attack, all by using a medium to hit the ground. He called it 'Smashing Point'. Neon however trained him to be able to pull it off by just stomping the ground with his feet, subtly tapping them, or ground pounding as not every time would he have that medium on him. He also taught him to be able use that to create defensive barriers to protect himself or others from harm. Mutsu worked hard on that as he felt that he needed to gain this man's respect as he'd gone through the trouble to teach him this. Fortunately for him he earned it when he pulled off his Smashing Point with just a stomp of his feet. Neon then told him to keep working on it so that it'll be instinctual for him.

Kazehana was one of the hardest to train as Neon had long lost his ability to manipulate wind like the woman, but he didn't let that deter him. So he put her through the same training his kunoichi mother did. Becoming one with the wind, using it to cut things easily and to create a barrier around herself. It took a while as Kazehana herself had to do it all without an example from her sensei as she'd summoned up a wind that had nearly sucked the oxygen out of the immediate area during one of their lessons. Neon had ignored Takami's excuse of an environmental system gone haywire, as he lambasted the wind Sekirei for her carelessness and nearly killing everyone but himself which brought her to tears. Eventually Kazehana got it all down and made Neon so happy that he hugged her and spun her around.

Karasuba...Well Neon could admit that he had way too much fun training her as she was eager to get right at it…by trying to kill him so many times and failing just as much. It reminded him of his own training session with his superior and godfather Boss Red when he still worked in black ops. While her insane bloodlust was something he found odd that he still used that to further train her in combat, pointing out her flawed and predictable attacks and showing her how to become more precise with her swing even when they were wild. He also taught Karasuba to keep that same bloodlust curbed to maintain her focus in a fight and to properly channel it in a fight. At the end of it all Neon was more than proud to say that Karasuba will be his best masterpiece yet out of all five.

Neon had an amused expression when he spotted an unexpected guest in his quarters.

"Matsu." The redheaded girl squeaked, ducking her head reflexively as she looked over her shoulder in confirmation, "I hope you have a good reason for being in my quarters?"

Matsu weakly smiled, her mind running a mile a minute. "Well…I was... looking for you, actually..." She answered looking up at him. Her sensei was indeed very intimidating, especially for a human.

"Well here I am…" Neon said as he sat on a chair and looked at her, "Now what can I do for you?"

Matsu shivered at the gaze of Neon's crimson red eyes peering through her, she sighed before speaking her piece. "Why do you continue to treat us like the others?"

"What do you mean by that?" Neon asked with an arched eyebrow.

Matsu continued, "You talk to us like we're old friends, you have no problems being around us as if our very beings didn't bother you in the slightest, while the scientists keep us at arm's length. You correct us and explain what we're doing wrong where everyone else simply points it out to us and expects us to understand what they're telling us." Matsu crossed her arms under her bosom as she leaned forward a little, a frown on her face. "I don't understand why you aren't like the others who study us."

"That's because I see you all as people as far as I'm concerned." Neon answered frankly, surprising Matsu, "I see no reason to treat any of you as things as that's retarded. You breathe the same air I do, you have needs like I do, and you have a right to live like I do so why the hell should I treat you as anything but a person?"

He whispered, 'Besides I see kindred spirits in you all.'

Matsu stared up at his face, her cheeks tinged pink as she heard him, a warm feeling in her chest lighting up for the very first time as she gazed at the honesty and with curiosity at what he meant by his latter statement. She chose not to ask about it so as to not have him get angry at her.

Unknown to Matsu but not Neon, Miya had heard their conversation including what he'd whispered from behind the door as she'd wanted to ask the same questions Matsu did and while she'd been satisfied by his answer, the whispered part created another mystery for her. What did he share with them to see them as kindred spirits?

It was another day of training as Neon looked down at the prone Karasuba who'd once again failed at killing him and unlike before when he'd be amused he had a glare on his face and it was because this time her bloodlust was even higher than usual that he couldn't ignore it anymore. Not to mention he'd noticed Matsu wearing glasses too which was very odd. He then realized why…the adjustments.

The temperature in the room became unbearably hot with Neon's students looking fearfully at their sensei who had a cold expression on him clearly radiating hostility.

'That's it! I've had it!' He thought before saying, "Everyone has the day off." He turned from them and he headed toward the ship, and the unfortunately doomed scientists.

"Uh oh! I don't like that look on his face." Kazehana asked.

"Oh, this I've got to see." Karasuba said in excitement, as she got up and ran after her sensei. She wanted to watch what he did to one of those bastards who touched them, altered them against their wills. She may not be allowed to hurt them, but she was going to enjoy one of them being hurt by another human. Odds were someone was going to die…horribly.

"I'm glad I'm not Takehito right now." Mutsu said earning a death glare from Miya.

"Um, Miya-tan." Matsu spoke quietly, drawing the lavender woman's attention. "Is Takehito-tan going to be alright?"

"I don't know but let's at least try to save him from Neon-sensei's wrath." Kazehana said as she trailed after Karasuba, using her wind powers to lift her up into the air and toward the ship.

They eventually caught up to Neon as he confronted Asama Takehito, a one-sided shouting match occurring between them. Neon's right hand flexed as it was close to his Glock 17 pistol, a hair trigger away from drawing it. The other scientists keeping their distance from them.

"Can you explain why the fuck Karasuba's bloodlust is at an all time high and Matsu's wearing glasses?" Neon asked Takehito with barely restrained anger.

Takehito sighed sadly as he took his glasses off his face, pocketing them. "Karasuba was made more bloodthirsty to make her an efficient fighter. As for Matsu, the adjuster working on her made a miscalculation when attempting to suppress her powers to normal levels. Unfortunately, that affected her sight after, and there was no way to reverse it."

Neon growled as dark flame wisps began flying around him. "So, you fuckers decided to play God with them? Who the hell gave you the right to 'suppress' anything about them?"

Takehito looked at Neon, imploringly. "We're trying to help them be normal people who can live in society without standing out. Our technology isn't like theirs, there are going to be mistakes."

"And that still justifies your actions?!" Neon shouted as a pressure dropped over the area. Takehito buckled under the pressure as he was forced to his knees. Karasuba and Miya were able to ignore the pressure, having felt Neon's K.I. before when they tried to attack him. Kazehana stayed back on the fringes while Matsu hid behind the door frame. Mutsu's hand reflexively gripped the hilt of his bokken as the pressure slowly increased. "You humans have the fucking audacity to play God and your best excuse is mistakes?!"

Takehito was finding it hard to breathe as Neon started to step toward him and Miya was ready to react at a moment's notice.

Fortunately, or unfortunately someone bailed him out.

"Hey! What's your problem?!" A male voice yelled.

"Excuse me?!" Neon directed at the one who talked. A bald, bearded male scientist wearing a lab coat like the others.

"Yes, I'm talking to you." The scientist said. "I don't see why you care about those freaks! They're not humans anyways so why bother about their well being?!"

"Shigeta! Would you stop-" Takehito began only to be stopped as the pressure increased again but most of it was directed at the named Shigeta who was rooted on the spot.

"So, I take it you're the one who 'adjusted' Karasuba and Matsu." Neon stated coldly as he walked towards his new target.

"Y-Yeah! I did, and so what?! I bet you're just like them-"

BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!

Shigeta was violent interrupted by an unhealthy diet of sixteen bullets all over his body courtesy of Neon's Glock 17 barrage. The fatally wounded scientist was sent towards the wall while the bullets hit their target. Takehito and the scientists were horrified by the brutality of Neon's actions. Karasuba was smiling with glee at the scientist getting filled with lead, Miya had her eyes wide in shock at Neon's action, Matsu hid behind a just a terrified Kazehana and Mutsu turned his face away from it all. When the barrage ended Neon walked to the somehow alive Shigeta who was choking on his blood and in agony.

"In addition to terrorists, A-list assholes and one other person I won't mention, I despise people who think they can play God with people's lives and the last person who did…I burnt alive…after peeling the skin off their body." Neon said getting gasps from the humans and wide eyes from the Discipline squad except a happy squeal from Karasuba. "And you shall get a similar treatment." He finished as he snapped his fingers and Shigeta went ablaze, unable to scream because he was already choking on his blood. This time everyone was rooted to the spot as the scientist was burnt alive. Takami and Minaka soon arrived on the scene and also saw the execution and were just as shocked.

A minute later there was nothing left of the scientist, not even his ashes remained.

Neon turned to look at the frozen Takehito and walked towards him while holstering his pistol. Takehito sighed as the pressure vanished and a calmer Neon stood in front of him.

He began, "Takehito. You're a good person. Naïve but good." He put a hand on the scientist's shoulder with Miya ready to rush in, but Mutsu held her arm and shook his head. "I understand that you want these Sekirei to live among humans without problems, but did you consider their own opinion in the matter? Don't answer as I already know it's no." Neon continued as Takehito stared into the mercenary's red eyes that gazed into his soul, "Through my violent life I've killed a lot of people and none of them have been good people. I'm begging you…Please don't make me start now. Comprende?"

Takehito nodded his head not trusting his voice right now.

"Good." Neon said removing his hand from the scientist's shoulder and in an instant, the mercenary was gone, flames dissipating where he once stood.

It didn't take the Discipline Squad to find their teacher who stood by a rock formation looking at the ocean.

"Okay, you owe us an explanation." Miya said to the mercenary.

"About that outburst?" Neon said without looking at his students. "So what about it?"

"Seriously what are you?!" Mutsu demanded, "You look human but what we just saw was clearly not something a human's capable of."

"Do you have a death wish Mutsu?" Neon asked coldly making the male Sekirei shut up immediately. "Didn't think so."

"Honestly…that was such an exhilarating display Neon-kun." Karasuba said, "The way you made that foolish human experience sheer pain before you executed him was something I never expected to see from someone like you."

"Um…glad you liked it Karasuba." Neon said sweat dropping. How messed up in the head had they made her.

"Um Neon-sensei…" Matsu began, getting the man's attention, "Did that display have to do with what you mentioned about being kindred spirits?"

Neon now turned to face his students. "So, you heard that huh?"

Matsu shivered under the man's gaze and replied, "Y-Yes…I did. I'm sorry."

Neon waved off her apology. "That's on me as I knew full well that your hearing's better than normal humans and I know you also heard me too Miya."

"So, you knew I was there." Miya stated.

"You're not as subtle as you think." Neon deadpanned before sighing, "Well I'll tell you why I lost my marbles back there." The five Sekirei gave him their full attention. "What the scientists had been doing to you all reminded me of a nightmarish past I've tried to put behind me when a scientist decided to play God with my life and damned me for the rest of it."

"So, you're not human anymore?" Miya asked.

"More than human." Neon replied, "I still have human traits but they're superior to that of normal humans along with some abilities to boot like what you saw me do to that fool and how I knocked both you and Karasuba senseless when you both attacked me."

Miya and Karasuba cringed at the reminder of their humiliating defeat at Neon's hands.

"So basically, you're a super soldier." Mutsu stated.

Neon shrugged, "Yeah. And like you with your adjustments I had no choice in the matter."

"So, is it true that you did what you did to the one who altered you?" Matsu asked.

Neon's face turned serious. "Yes, and I don't have any regrets."

Matsu, Kazehana and Mutsu blanched as they imagined the brutal execution he mentioned. Burnt alive after being skinned alive to begin with is a very horrible way to go.

Karasuba wished she was around to see the same thing.

Miya watched as the more than human mercenary looked back at the ocean. While she now understood why Neon reacted the way he did back then due to his past she still didn't approve of his admonishing of Asama Takehito, whether it was deserved or not nor his brutal execution of one of the adjusters. No one had ever cared about what they wanted before, nor asked their opinion about what was being done to them. A place in her chest had been touched that Neon gave a damn about them, the same place that Takehito stirred when he was alone with her.

"Your training will be ending soon." Neon spoke up getting their attention, "You all have come quite a long way from the arrogant brats I first met." He could feel their death glares aimed at him but ignored them, "Now you all are more than capable of holding your own in a fight. Don't forget that mankind sees you as everything they are scared of, made in man's image, but falling outside the so called natural order of things. As such, they will hunt you and everyone here down and kill everything, including your brother and sisters. I'm now sure that you can not only defend yourself but everyone you will ever come to care for."

He turned to face the Discipline Squad.

"Tomorrow will be your final test: You five against me." He smirked as he saw their eyes widen in surprise, "I will be going all out and holding nothing back. Be sure to do the same."
