Chapter Three; The Babysitter
A few months later Peter was finally potty trained and ready to start nursery school. "I just dropped him off." The Doctor began as he came through the front door. "I sure hope that he gets along alright with the other kids." He finished.
"Oh I'm sure he will, he's very sweet little boy." Rose said.
"Where's Jane?" he asked her.
"I just put her down for her nap." She answered. "You know what that means don't you? We have the place all to ourselves." She said flashing him a sexy grin while she ran her hands down his chest.
"Getting a bit frisky are we?" he questioned her back with a grin before placing a quick and tender kiss on her lips in which Rose turned before she wrapped her arms around his neck and turned it into a deep and powerful kiss. A few moments later he slowly pulled away from her.
"You know what? I have an idea. Why don't we go out for dinner tonight?" he asked her.
"Alright, what about the kids?" she asked him back.
"We'll leave them here with Mickey. We deserve a special night out just to ourselves." He said.
"Well I dunno, Peter can be a handful sometimes. I mean he might be a well behaved little boy for his age but he's still only three years old and Jane has never spent any time away from me in her life. She might get separation anxiety." She told him.
"Oh that's just bitter utter nonsense." He told her with a wave of his hand. "Besides Shadow will be here to keep an eye on things won't you boy?" he questioned as he glanced down at the dog who was sleeping on the floor in front of the sofa. He simply just opened one eye and looked at him before closing it again and going back to sleep.
"He's a dog." Rose said.
"Ah yes but he isn't just any ordinary dog." The Doctor told her.
"Still, time dog or not he's still a dog on the inside." She pointed out.
"C'mon Rose," he began in a whisper. "when's the last time that you and I got to spend any time together just as husband and wife?" he asked her.
"Well, I do want to spend some time alone with you." She admitted.
"So it's settled then. I'll call Mickey and make sure he's available to babysit and then I'll go ahead and make the reservations." He said before he walked over to the phone and Shadow started to snore.
"Like you'll watch over them yeah right? You'll probably just sleep the whole entire time." Rose told him as he ignored her and continued to snore.
Later on The Doctor picked up Peter from nursery school. "Daddy!" he cried excitedly as he ran a crossed the classroom and jumped inside his arms.
"Hullo peanut," he began as he kissed him on the cheek. "How was school?" he asked him.
"It was great Daddy! My teacher is wheelie nice." He answered.
"That's good what did you do at school all day?" his father asked.
"I colored a picture of you and Mummy." He began as he gave the drawing to him.
"Gee thank you buddy that's really nice." He said.
"I also painted a picture and we sang songs and listened to stowies." His son told him.
"Well gosh it sounds like you had a really fun day." He said.
"We still had to take a nap though." His son told him with a look of disguist that made him laugh. "But at least we had a snack." He added as his father grinned and kissed his cheek again.
"C'mon then, are you ready to go home and see Mummy and sissy?" he asked him.
"Yes." He answered with a nod as his father continued to grin and kissed him for a third time before carrying him out the door. "You know peanut, Daddy has something very important to talk to you about." He began as he carried him out into the parking lot.
"What?" he asked him.
"Well tonight your mummy and daddy are going out for dinner and Uncle Mickey's going to come over and watch you." He explained.
"Are you weeving me?" Peter questioned him.
"No pal we're not leaving you, we just need some time alone together." He explained.
"Why? Don't you wike me anymoe?" Peter asked him.
"Of course we do, we both love you and your sister very much. We just want to spend some time alone together just the two of us, but don't worry we'll be back to check on you later. Probably when you're in bed alright?" he questioned him back as he carried him towards the car.
"All wight." He answered as his father got out his sonic screwdriver and popped the lock on the backdoor before placing him inside his booster seat. "Do you want Daddy to help you or can you do it by yourself?" he asked him.
"I can do it, Imma big boy." He answered as The Doctor smiled lovingly at him.
"Alright then I'll leave you to it." He said as he shut the door behind him while Peter started to strap himself in.
…..
"Alright Jane's bottles are in the fridge and make sure you heat them up on the stove and not in the microwave because I don't want her to burn her mouth." Rose explained to Mickey. "And even though Peter's potty trained now be prepared for some accidents. Speaking of which Shadow's already been fed and taken outside so he should be fine." She added.
"Relax, I've got everything under control." Mickey told her as she started to head towards the door with The Doctor dressed in a fancy shimmering black dress with pantyhose and high heels that matched her dress.
"Alright but don't forget Peter needs a bath before bed because he has to go to nursery tomorrow and I'd like for him to be in bed by eight and for Jane to be in bed by seven." She explained as she swung her purse over her shoulder.
"It's alright, I've got it. You two go ahead and have a good time." He said.
"Alright goodbye kids I love you, be good!" she exclaimed with a wave as she headed out the door with her husband. Mickey waited until she was gone before she turned to look down at the children.
"Alright, who wants pizza?" he asked them.
"Me!" Peter sung.
"Me." Jane mimicked as she totted over to Mickey and he picked her up.
"Alright but I've got to cut yours up into small enough pieces for you to chew." He told her as she grinned at him and honked his nose.
"C'mon, why don't you wait inside your playpen while I'm on the phone." He suggested as he carried her a crossed the living room and set her down inside it.
"I have to go potty." Peter said.
"Alright then, can you do it by yourself or do you need help?" Mickey asked him.
"By myself!" he answered as he ran into the bathroom and slammed the door shut behind him while Mickey got onto the phone.
"Uh hullo, I'd like to order a pizza." He began. A few minutes later he thanked them and hung up the phone while Peter was still inside the bathroom. "He sure is taking a long time in there." He said to himself. "Peter!?" he called as he started walking down the hall. "Are you alright in there?" he questioned as he slowly opened the door and felt his eyeballs nearly pop right out from their sockets. "What are you doing!?" he shrieked to find him with a pair of manicure scissors and butchering off clumps of his hair.
Peter stopped and turned to look at him. "Uh oh, am I in twouble?" he asked him.
"No, I am! Your parents are going to kill me!" he cried as he set the scissors down on top of the counter.
"I'm sowee." He apologized guilty.
"Look it's alright, I'll find a way to fix it. After all, you're just a little kid and you didn't know any better." Mickey said as he stepped down off his stool. Mickey flushed the toilet as Peter came out of the room. After dinner he made sure that Jane had her bottle and that Peter had his bath before he got them both ready for bed. Shortly afterwards The Doctor and Rose came back.
"So how did it go?" Rose asked him.
"Oh everything went really well. I ordered pizza for them, and did everything that you told me to do." He said.
"So they behaved themselves then?" she asked.
"Uh yes." He began. "But there was a teeny tiny little incident that happened." He said as he demonstrated the size with his fingers.
"What!? What incident!?" she cried as The Doctor simply just looked at him.
"Well, it's a funny story actually." He began as they continued staring at him. "I mean I thought it was funny anyway. You see when I was ordering the pizza Peter said he had to go to the bathroom and that he could do it all by himself. So I believed him, but when I opened the door I realized that he found your manicure scissors and decided to give himself a haircut." He said with a grin. "Funny right?" he questioned as a moment of silence fell over top of them.
"No, it's not." Rose answered with a shake of her head when suddenly The Doctor busted out laughing.
"Well, I think it is." He said as his wife shot him a dirty glare. "What!? A lot of kids do that when they're little. Besides, it's just hair. It'll grow back." He assured her. "How bad was it?" he asked Mickey who took a deep breath and got out his phone and showed it to him. The Doctor started laughing again and even Rose couldn't help but stifle a laugh.
"So then, you guys aren't mad at me?" Mickey asked as he put his phone away again.
"Nah," The Doctor began with a wave of his hand. "it was our fault really, we should have made sure that the scissors were somewhere out of his reach. You did a great job Mick, so here you go." He told him as he paid him and Mickey grinned.
"Gee, thanks!" he exclaimed.
"No problem, and we hope to have you back as soon as possible." The Doctor said as they said their goodnights and farewells and Mickey walked out the door.
