Chapter 3

Charles was confused with his inebriated mind. His eyes were staring at her slightly sorrowful and foundlings.

The confession had taken her by surprise, but she didn't feel shocked by the sincerity in his words or in his gaze and gestures. The same way he saw in her the ideal mother for his imaginary children, she saw him as a father for hers.

Elsie smiled sweetly, leaving her body lean on his, totally unconscious and somewhat unappropriated. The heat that emanated from Charles's massive chest welcomed her and she felt relaxed there. Maybe his arms were the ideal place for Elsie Hughes.

"I never thought much about it." That was the lie Charles had offered her as an answer when she asked about the desire to have children. Of course at that moment she didn't know that it was a white lie, and could even understand that opinion coming out for someone like him, so focused on his professional life, having a family might not be so important. "And you, Mrs. Hughes? Did you wished to have children?" He had asked her, turning his eyes away from hers to look at his own hands.

Elsie sighed heavily, leaning back in her chair more comfortable with a small smile on her lips as her eyes focused on a distant point in the room as she answered. "There are moments I wish my life were different, I do not deny it. Perhaps a small house with flower beds in front and a small garden in the back. A husband to witness my life and with whom to share joys and sorrows, children to care..."

Charles could see in her expression that she even could visualize that innocent fantasy in details. The possibility that this woman fantasize about a family that certainly did not include him fell like there was needle pricking his heart. And indeed Elsie could see the details of your most secret dreams.

In her dreams, she saw herself young again, with two small children circling her skirts, both with blue eyes and curly hair. She imagined herself always pregnant with a little bump in the belly, her imaginary husband, Charles, caressing her swelling stomach with his giants and protective hand every time he come home after work, planting a soft kiss on her lips.

"There is still time for that, if you really want it." Charles said in a low voice, trying to express his best feelings for her at that moment. If that was her real desire, and even if it did not include him, he couldn't do anything other than support her.

He noticed her gaze fall over him and he stared back at her. For a long moment she studied him and then began to laugh, her smile expanded and laughter fully took her for long moments.

"Oh Mr. Carson..." The poor man had taken her more seriously than she imagined. "I see you know little about women." She said still having fun with the situation. "Even if I wanted to have children, this option was taken from me by nature."

For a moment he was confused, staring at her as she laughed. What a fool. He had been so absorbed in his own fantasies that he had forgotten that detail. But even though he had forgotten he would never be able to talk about it. It was something very intimate and extremely personal, something only a husband should know about his wife.

he felt her face flush and Elsie gradually control the laughter at his earnest expression.

"I hope I haven't offended you."

"Not at all, Mrs. Hughes." He answered promptly fidgeting in his seat. "I'd better end up for tonight. Good night."

He had left her small room like that, without even giving her a chance to respond. She regretted the comment. No man would listen that they knew little about women, not in the tone she used, she touched a point too intimate.

She had not seen him again after he had left. She turned off the lights of her palour and rose to her bedroom. By the morning he would have forgotten about it, any further discussion about it would just let him more restless and uneasy, even then she would apologize for her brief impertinence.

At least these were her plans until she find out him in her room.

"I had no intention to offend you sooner. Forgive me for comment." Elsie muttered with her eyes still closed, leaning against his chest. A strong arm had surrounded her waist, holding her tight beside him.

"Shhh..." For him that didn't matter, nothing mattered. He had the woman he loved in his arms, what more he could want know? The comment was long forgotten. He bent his face subtly, letting his lips touched hers. How soft they were!

There was no time for any reaction, one moment she was breathing Charles intoxicated breath to in the following sense and not feel his lips on hers. It was a dream, it could only be a dream. She just wanted to sleep there with him, let the night and their souls to follow the natural course of events.

The realization that the feelings that they have were mutual finally seemed to make sense and achieve their souls. A shiver ran through Elsie's back and Charles squeezed her tightly against him. They sensed their physical forms, the outline of the other. More than romantic, the whole situation had a hand extremely erotic. Elsie in her cotton nightgown, with no other physical barrier that separated Charles unless his thin tank and shorts. She could fell the physical changes in him, his excitement evident.

He opened his eyes and watched. It would be so easy to get carried away, but how would Charles react the next morning when the drink would let his senses and they would be sharp again? Would he regret it? Would he repudiate her?

"Charles, you need to sleep." She said letting the reason to take care of her.

"I'll leave her alone. Forgive my inconvenience and..." He started to let her go, dropping his hand first before removing the arm around her.

"You're not going anywhere in this state or you will wake up everyone all the way and will make things get worse for us."

There was some confusion in his eyes as he looked her fix up the the small bed so they could accommodate there together. No, that wasn't right, wasn't admitted to this home, wasn't suitable, no... God he wanted so hardly to take her in his arms that the intensity feared him for his possible behavior.

"I have to behave."

She smiled shy and reached out, indicating that he should approach, and so he did. First sat on the bed and turned to face her. He was slightly flushed and embarrassed.

"I love you, Elizabeth." He surprised her, staring at her. "You have always be the one Mrs. Carson for me."

This time it was her who surrendered up and leaned towards him for a brief and gentle brush of lips.

"Mrs. Carson loves you back."

Charles nodded and took his place in the narrow bed, leaving Elsie accommodate up beside him, before finally wrap his arms around her. His eyes were heavy and his mind was getting slower.

"I always wished to have you in my arms."

"So did I my sweet men."
