A.N. Hey you guys! How about in this story we pretend that Duck's real name is Daniel and he has a little sister name Marceline. Can you go with me on this? I will try to not have more self-made stuff go on besides this story after this. I promise! So I am now just trying to figure out how to turn a story from a one shot to an actual story. If you have any ideas please PM me. I love getting ideas from readers. Oh and I will need a Beta (or someone who will proofread my chapters to make sure there are no grammatical errors). Please PM me if you are interested. It is a twice a month kind of thing (unless the creative juices really start to flow). As always, keep on keepin' on!
Still too early to go see Ace and not in the mood to talk to his teammates, Duck decided to go up to the roof top, his favorite place to be. He loved being over everyone else and looking down at the people below. It made him feel more important somehow though he wouldn't be able to explain it out loud.
He would think about when he came out to the world as a Bi and how accepting everyone in his community were. He would also think abou this crush on his leader and (until a few moments ago) dispair on how his love would never be requited. He would think about how he may end up being alone and without a person in the world to love or to be loved by.
But most of the time, he would think about his life before becoming a superhero. He and his litle sister, Marceline, were unwanted children who were dumped into the orphanage. He never got the full story but from what he has gathered from the workers at the orphanage him and his sister were found on the door step on Christmas morning, huddling together on the steps while it was snowing. He was four and she was two. One of the workers took them inside and got them food and water when she found a note in his pocket. In it were all of the information on the children including birth dates, allergies, vaccines, and any other medical information that would be needed later on in life.
Everything, of course, except for the full names of the parents. William and Sandra were the names on the note but no last name, description nor address. And most certainly no reason as to why the parents abandoned the children. But the workers cared for them like they have belonged there the whole time. When adoption time would come, most couples would only want Daniel (his real name) or Marceline but never both. They had refused to be seperated so adotion didn't come for a long time. After being the last few kids there besides their friend-turned-evil Pinkster Pig, they didn't think that they would ever be adopted together. But thanks to Daniel's trick coin, they got their own family.
Their new parents, Claudia and Phillip, were a middle class couple who wanted children but could never have their own. They wanted a boy and a girl so having Marceline and Daniel were perfect for them. They wanted the children to have a hobby outside of school activities. Daniel studied martial arts for a few years while Marceline went on to drama clubs and choir. While he quit martial arts because he found it boring, Marceline proved to excel acting and singing. In fact, she was scouted her senior year of high school and went with an agent to showcase her skills on the broadway stages and go to college at the same time.
Marceline was Daniel's best friend. He knew that he could go to her with a problem without judgement and vise versa. They were pretty close and hated going months without seeing each other. Unfortunately, between her schedule with broadway plays and him saving the galaxy, visits come far and few. But they called each other several times a week and messaged each other all of the time. Mostly about Marceline's boyfriend of the week and Daniel's lack of love life.
She was an extraordinary woman with a mouth of a sailor and the temper of a Italian mob wife. She was a black feline with a white stripe going down her thick curly black hair and along her spine making her look like a skunk. Her eyes were a dark green on the left eye and a really bright blue on the right due to being born with Heterochromia Iridium, a type of genetic eye mutation. Under the advisary of her agent, she wears brown contacts and has never told anyone outside of her family about her eyes. Her short stature of 4'8" did not stop her from getting into trouble, as she has proven this time and time again. If it wasn't for the fact that she surrounds herself with security guards (hired by Daniel), she would be in jail at least once a week from fighting all of the time. Depending on the day, if someone breathed wrong they were punched in the face.
Thinking about her made him want to call her. He remembered that tonight was her only off night that week so he pulled his cell phone from his pouch and dialed her number. After the second ring, a low sultry female voice picked up the phone.
"Hey Butt Muncher. What's shakin'?"
Daniel sighed. "What's going on, Carpet Licker?"
"Aww, look at you coming up with a new name for me. Is that what you were calling about?"
Daniel was debating on whether to tell his sister about what happened or not. He tells her everything, but it seemed like at that moment, he couldn't put into words his feeling and emotions about the whole thing. But he knew that without saying a word she would know something big was up.
"Hang on a second, let me tell Ron that we need to have our weekly chat and that I will catch him next time," She said in a hurry. Daniel could then hear her talking to someone and a door opening and closing. "Ok I am back. Sorry about that. What's up brother?"
"Who in the hell is Ron? Is this someone I should be worried about?" Daniel didn't like hearing that someone new was in her apartment. Normally he wouldn't be too nosy, but she is a celebrity of sorts. She isn't an A lister but she is more of a high C lister. But there are some crazy people out there who would do some stupid things...
"Don't worry. He is one of the actors I work with this week. We were practicing our kissing scene," Marceline joked as she started smacking her lips into the phone.
"Alright Marci! I don't need to know these things," Daniel huffed as he laid back onto the rooftop, staring at the stars that were coming out.
"Oh God, what's got your panties in a wad?"
"Well, rememeber when we talked about my "inappropriate infatuation" with my team leader and how I shouldn't even try to pursue that relationship because you were pretty sure that boss lady might fire me and he wouldn't probably even swing that way?" Duck asked as he was making himself comfortable for what was about to come. He knew that he would be talking to her for awhile.
There was a pause for a moment before he heard a gasp on the phone. "Tell me everything. Right now. Did you go after him or did he go after you? Did you lean in first? Did you do any hanky panky yet?! Oh my God please tell me you are using protection! You never know what kind of STDs are out there now a days! Do you know how to put a condom on? Did anyone show you?! Tell me now! Snap Snap fool!"
Duck couldn't take the embarrassing questions anymore (and why was she asking about his use of condoms?!) and proceeded to cut her off mid rant. "It was kind of a mix. We accidentally fell on top of each other. Somehow that turned into a heated make out session. And nothing happened after that. We are waiting until later to discuss this."
"What in the hell is there to discuss? He wouldn't have been eating your lips like they were his last meal if he didn't like you!" Daniel could hear a blender turning on and assumed that she was either making a protein shake or a mixed drink. Probably the latter. Talks like this gets her in the mood for alcohol. Well, that and dates, sex, TV shows, clubs, you get the picture.
"You do realize that you have no room to talk like that, right? I mean if that were the case, you fell in love with five people this month and not just guys," Duck rambled as he was picking at his feathers, a nervous habit of his.
"But they know from the start that it is nothing more than hook ups. It's not like I am leading them on. Besides, that is how I have my fun. And what do you mean nothing else happened?" He heard her blender stop and dishes clanging together as it sounded like she found the glass that she was looking for.
He sighed, knowing what she was thinking. "Relax woman, we didn't have time for it to go further before everyone else came home and unknowingly cock blocked me. But I don't think that it would have gone farther than that." And he was telling the truth. It wasn't like anything like that was planned. How was he supposed to know what would have happened if everyone came home much later?
He could hear silence on the other end of the line and knew that was his cue to tell her how he really felt. "What if he sees this as a mistake and is hoping that I am a no show tonight so he could forget about it? Maci, we are talking about Acmetropolis's Bachelor of the Year. Why in the hell would anyone like that be gay? Or even want to be with someone like me?"
Before he could go on with his pity rambling, he was cut short by his sister. "Now you listen to me Daniel Matthew Duck and you listen really fucking good. I don't care WHAT anyone else says. You are a good person who has so much to offer to this world. Any person, male or female, would be so lucky to have you. But you need to stop acting like an arrogant, stuck up jerk all of the time. I know that is not who you are. You are sweet, charming, caring, loving, and most of all funny! Do you know how hard it is to find someone with all of those traits wrapped up into a handsome person? VERY! So take it from me when I say that he would be lucky to have you!"
Daniel was quiet for a moment as he thought about what his baby sister had said. She's right, he thought, I deserve to be happy, even if it is for a short time.
A quiet "thanks" was all that was said before he looked at his watch. Ten minutes until eleven. I wonder if everyone went to bed yet.
"Hey sis, great talking to you but I gotta go. It is time to face my destiny," he exclaimed in an exaggerated way as he jumped up to his feet. He could hear a giggle before words of encouragement and a "if he is an ass about all of this just let me know," was said before the click of the phone.
Daniel faced the door on the rooftop that lead to inside of the headquarters. With all of the butterflies in the world doing the salsa in his stomach, he opened the door and walked to the common room. He saw Lexi and Slam exchanging good nights before heading to their separate rooms. Knowing that it would only be a matter of time, he went to his room to take a shower and get ready for whatever was to come.
Marci is right, Daniel thought as he quickly scrubbed himself down with soap and rinsed before putting on his conditioner for his feathers. I am pretty great. If she says I am then I must be. But still... He hated being so insecure that he would start coming up with elaborate theories about other people's motives but that is just how he is.
Getting out of the shower, he was about to change when he heard a knock on the door.
