Chapter 3:
Aces POV:
I sat on my bed, curled up against the wall. Luffy was sitting on the edge of it and stared at me. I could see in his eyes that there was a distant disorder behind his eyes, but he's never looked so stunning. The new day has arose outside my window, and as I wiped a few more tears out of my eyes, I stood up. Luffy stared at me whilst I stood. "Would you like to go out?" His eyes shone an adorable brilliance that seemed so vulnerable and childish. He smiled widely at me and got up. I furrowed my eyebrows as he pulled his shirt over his head, "I smell bad. I don't want to go out when I smell bad." I grinned and my eyes had a film of tears over my eyes. "It's just your body odor, silly."
Luffy's POV:
He seems so happy now. He walked close by my side as we strolled down the streets of this unknown city. He led me into a clothe shop. We got my new undergarments and pants and shirts. It's been getting rather cold out, so he got me a jacket, too. As I tried shirts on and such, he kept smiling at me every time I'd pop my small head out of the room and asked if what I had on looked good on me or not. We left the shop with bags in our grasps and love in our hearts that day.
We found a small park and decided to wander around it. As we walked, we began to see a dirt path accompanied with a very delicate wind draining the alertness from my body. I felt as though I have been in a total state of relaxation. I just shut the whole world out that day. I felt that I was superior for once. With Ace and his amazing skills of teaching, and his loving nature, I don't know where I'd be at that moment. "Luffy?" He startled me, so I jumped aback. "Sorry! Aha. But... uh, who did you live with for so many years?" I shifted my feet as I began to speak. My voice was raspy and my eyes were fighting back a sheer liquid of pure coward.
"Uh... his name... it was..." tears began to slide down my sullen cheeks, "Sabo." Ace stopped walking, looked at me and shook his Deja vu away.
"Ahh, I uh... see. What happened to him?" He sounded as though he already knew the answered. I looked at him perplexed and continued.
"He got kidnapped by some thugs." With a long and dreary pause, I stammered his story, "H-he was a very nice person. He ate a lot like me and we laughed a lot. He w-was a good friend. The night they found us...-"
"Found you? You were hiding?" I knew this story would take a while, so we sat down on a bench beside a pond with swans idling inside it.
"It begins like this..." I sighed and told the most tragic story of my life; "We slept under some railway and some days we'd see a group of people wander past our home. But, the thing is, they'd always stare at us. We didn't know why. We never knew why. A week passed and we did not see them, not even once. We got scared and packed our small amount of things and left." I gulped and took a breath.
"Where did you guys go?" He pondered.
"We left to find a new home. A home where we could sleep in beds and would be able to wash our faces and wipe our butts. We didn't want to live by a train anymore. So, we left. What really happened was that... they found us, those bad people, they followed us." My face got wet again, soaking in tears. I cringed at the thought of the rest of my story. Ace began to rub my back, it felt nice. "They chased us, Ace. They chased us. They were screaming that we had to One Piece. I don't know what that is. I don't. I wish I did, because they took Sabo. They took Sabo and said until you find out where the One Piece is they wouldn't give him back. Years have passed since I've seen him. He's probably dead by now." I couldn't stop crying. I felt my whole body tremble underneath his touch. I felt breakable. I felt like a failure.
"Luffy-"
"NO! You don't understand! He was my best friend! I loved him, Ace! I loved him!" Ace started to tear up with me. He pulled me closer to his side and rubbed my left arm with his left arm by reaching around my frail body. I fell into his chest and cried. I couldn't do anything else but cry.
"Sabo...
Sabo...
Sabo...?!
SABO!? WHERE ARE YOU?! I LOVE YOU. I MISS YOU!"
We wandered around the town a little longer. We passed by shops and couples and crowds and entertainers and it seemed that nothing was able to cheer me up. "Would you like something to eat, Luffy?" Maybe something to eat could distract me.
"Okay. I want cookie."
"You mean; I want a cookie." I stared at him grumpily and he tried to hide a smile.
"What?"
"N-nothing..." His cheeks got flustered.
After a few minutes or so we reached the café that he works at. We entered, and as we walked in, a bell chimed above our heads. He asked if he wanted something to drink and I nodded at the thought of food. "Ace!" A deep voice was heard in the back room of the café. Ace recognized the familiar voice and walked towards it, knowing it's presence and need. "Zoro! I'm working tomorrow, am I not? You sound aggitated." Ace calls over the counter to his friend. Zoro has pale green hair and sharp looking eyes. His body is well built and has a well chiseled jawline. "Ace, sometime important has happened."
Ace's POV:
It felt as though my veins shriveled at the sound of his statement. I quivered and guided him into a private room. I ordered Luffy a mocha and a muffin to keep him occupied and distracted. What a poor soul, he's been through so much.
We wandered into the backroom and I sat on top of a heavy box and he sat on a crate. He leaned forward so that his elbows rested on top of his knees and he began to rub his eyes with his hands. He seemed stressed; which stressed me out. "Zoro!? What is it! Did you find something out?" He looked at me and sighed. He kept fidgeting with his shirt and he got shaky. When he looked up, his eyes were bloodshot and a tear fell so gracefully off of his cheek, as if it commit suicide in the most beautiful fashion. All I could focus on was his mouth, as he spoke the most sickening words;
"Sabo, he's... dead."
My heart sank. I fell to my knees and pulled my hair as I screamed out.
