She knew she had to. It was pretty much the only way…but it still hurt. It was all she had left of her mother. And they had virtually gone through hell and back when Zuko had gotten it. Zuko-Fire Nation- her village-her mother-the necklace again.
Everything led back to the ribbon and smooth stone lying on her open palm. But she swallowed down the tears and gave the man a determined look as she handed him the small treasure. She took another, less blue and less sentimental, necklace off the cart and placed it around her neck. But it just didn't feel the same. Nowhere near.
With every step she took away from the cart and the bittersweet memories of her mother she felt her heart break a little more.
Just thinking that, in Book 3, Katara had to give up her mother's necklace; and, in Book 2, they made such a big deal about it. Wouldn't it have hurt her greatly to give up such a prized possession? Hmm…maybe Zuko will find it again or something…
