Kirk flipped through the personnel records, looking for crewmembers suitable for the latest mission ordered by the Federation. Scanning planets and looking for habitation anomalies was no longer enough. Spock was dutifully fulfilling the request to determine if there were any leaks aboard the Enterprise; now infiltration and human intelligence was required for the Altaran situation.

Two of the files looked promising. Both were young, with one just out of the academy. In Kirk's mind that would lend credibility to their cover stories-it would be easier to believe they were idealistic and looking for a cause. But it also meant they did not have much experience, and none with undercover work, which would make it likelier they would make a mistake that would get them caught. It seemed unlikely the Altarans would kill them, if caught, though it was always possible. The Romulans however…

"Sulu, how close are our friends?" he said into the intercom.

"Still in their territory light years away, according to the probes. No movement in this direction."

"Great Sulu. Continue monitoring and give me any updates if things change." Kirk returned to the personnel files, further pondering the suitability of the two candidates.

Spock placed the shuttle in orbit around the planet and began scans for humanoid life signs and energy output. Both looked to be minimal, consistent with what was known about the planet. He set the coordinates for two kilometers from the location of McCoy's last message. Readings for that area indicated a temperate climate with numerous mountains and caves, an ideal location to create a hidden colony.

"Doctor, we will be landing momentarily. You will contact Brenda and have her meet us at our location."

"You will keep your word?"

"Yes, Doctor McCoy. I will."

Spock circled the landing coordinates as he looked for a suitable location in the nearby area. Spying a grove of trees beside a mountain, he guided the shuttle to the middle of the mini forest and landed, hiding it in the foliage.

McCoy sent the message noting his arrival and asking her to meet him and giving the coordinates. "All sent, Spock."

"Notify me when you receive a response."

"Should be soon, she knows to expect it from the message you had me send at dinner."

The two men sat, waiting for Brenda to respond.
