AN: Wow it took me a LONG time to get this up, for several (Admittedly Subpar) reasons. I got stuck at the Naruto-Shizune dialog, then I got mauled by plot bunnies for my newest story, then right after new year's my six year old cousin was watching movies on my computer and deleted all the work I had for all of my stories along with several essays I had written for school, then I got sidetracked by Xbox games, BAH So much distraction!
But on the bright side I am back at work on this story and I have finally decided, after much inner self debate, who is going to be paired with Fu!
First I thought Sasuke, but I don't like his character very much and I need him for a different pairing, (SasukeXSakura more than likely)
Next I went to Kiba, but I had already planned on him to be with Hinata.
Then I went to Shino, but every story I've read with Fu as a big character has had them paired (Except of course, when I particularly look for NarutoXFu) and the Bug User – Nanabi situation seems a little too easy.
And at my wit's end I finally came up with the perfect choice. He adds a twist to the story, and fills another important role in the story. Plus I have never seen him paired with Fu.
And that person is…
Menma!
Yes Naruto's little brother (In this story at least.) will be paired with his daughter! A relationship that is not incest at all, and yet by technicality is.
The MenmaXFu relationship will START this chapter. Yes I know that I have Fu at four years old, but their relationship will begin as childhood friends.
By the way, I Don't Own, nor Will I Ever Own, Naruto.
Chapter Start:
Naruto rushed through the village to get to the park as quickly as possible. He turned past a clothing store and into an alleyway. When he emerged from the other side he turned onto the road and sprinted as fast as he could in the direction of the park. When he entered the park he dug was forced to dig his heels into the ground in prevent himself from slamming into Shizune as she led Fu out. The two had an awkward pseudo staring contest as the four year old looked questioningly between them. Naruto went to say something but was cut off when Shizune glanced down at the girl. Naruto closed his eyes in understanding and silently formed a Kage Bushin.
"Take Fu to get lunch, I'll catch up." He told the clone, who silently nodded and led Fu away by the hand.
The real Naruto turned back to his angry girlfriend, "I guess we need to talk."
"I think so." She replied curtly, "Mind explaining exactly who that was?"
"I think you already have a good idea," Naruto commented, "But that was my daughter, I adopted her just recently."
"When were you going to tell me that?" Shizune asked.
"You just got back." Naruto said, "But I was going to as soon as you got here."
"Why did you adopt some random child?" Shizune asked, slightly angry about the way he was dismissing her.
"Because it was the right thing to do." Naruto responded, still keeping his own emotions in check.
"And you didn't think to consult me before hand?" Shizune asked angrily.
"It was more of a spur of the moment deal." Naruto responded.
His response made the already fuming girl even more livid, "So you just adopted some random child on impulse?"
Her comeback caused Naruto to become slightly angry, "You wouldn't understand why." He said, but it came out as more of a growl.
Shizune lost her cool, "Of course I wouldn't understand why my boyfriend adopts random street urchins!"
She could barely finish the sentence before a loud smack resounded through the park and her face lurched to the side. Her eyes widened as she moved her hand up to the spot where Naruto had slapped her.
Naruto's fists clenched at his side as he attempted to calm himself down. He turned away from her and preformed a shunshin toward the restaurant that he knew the clone took Fu to.
Shizune look at where he had left in shock before she sat down near the entrance to the park.
Neither of them noticed the pair of teary orange eyes looking at them through a bush.
A moment before.
The Naruto clone led Fu by the hand toward the real Naruto's favorite restaurant, which he knew that Fu would enjoy as well. They were about four minutes away from the park when the blonde clone felt a sharp pain in his foot. He looked down to see an iron nail sticking up through it.
"Really?" the clone deadpanned before it dispelled in a puff of smoke.
Fu's little eyebrows scrunched up in confusion as she thought of what to do. She quietly decided to just return to the park where her father was.
It took her a couple of minutes to return, but when she got there she immediately noticed her father and the woman who helped her leg in an argument. She quietly knelt in a bush to wait for her father. She may not have seemed like it at first glance, but she was actually very smart for her age. She knew from what she heard that her father and the black haired lady where in some sort of relationship. What sort of relationship she didn't know, she was only four. She also knew that there was some sort of problem between them. And she soon came to the thought that any abused and neglected child would come to in her situation.
That it was her fault.
Her eyes teared up as she silently came to the conclusion of what she had to do. Naruto had done more for her in a few days than most did for her in her entire life. She turned around without a word and ran out of the park.
Almost for hours later.
Shizune was in a fog for the rest of the day. She had been thinking about her argument with Naruto, it was the first that they had ever had. She would admit that she had over reacted, but she was just shocked that Naruto would go off and adopt a little girl. She shivered slightly when she remembered the look in his eye just before he left. 'He must really care about her.' Shizune thought, 'Maybe I should apologize.' She was about to go to the Namikaze compound where Naruto lived when she saw something strange. She saw Fu walking alone in the direction of the front gate of the village. She quickly walked over to the girl and noticed that she had tear stains marking her cheeks.
"Hello Fu," Shizune said, causing the little girl to jump in shock, "Where are you going?"
Fu stared into her eyes for a moment before looking back at the ground, "Back to Taki." The girl whimpered.
Shizune was slightly shocked at the young girl's response, "Why?" she asked.
"Because im just in the way here." The jinchuuriki said, even more quietly.
Now Shizune was slightly worried, it definitely wasn't healthy for a four year old to think about herself in that way, "Why would you think that?"
Fu looked at the ground again, "I saw what happened in the park."
Shizune looked down at the pitiful looking girl. She sighed as she leaned down and wrapped the green haired jinchuuriki in a tight hug, causing a silent gasp from the girl. "That wasn't your fault Fu," Shizune said, "I just over reacted a bit."
Fu started to cry again as she hugged her pseudo mother. Shizune smiled lightly and picked the girl up, which caused Fu to flinch a little. "Let's go find you father, ok Fu?" she said. Fu nodded her head a little and tightened her hold around Shizunes neck. Shizune also tightened her hold on the small girl and leapt onto the building beside them to look for her wayward boyfriend.
With Naruto.
Naruto pulled on his hair in frustration. He had been looking for Fu for hours. "How does a clone get dispelled by a random nail?" he grumbled to himself. After he left the Ichiraku Ramen stand he went right back to the park, then to the Hokage tower and now he was just jumping from building to building searching for his daughter.
He sighed in defeat as he sat on the edge of one of the buildings. How hard could it be to find one child? After several minutes he stood again and was about to leap for another building when he noticed someone leaping toward him.
"Naruto!" he heard the figure shout. When it got closer his mood soured further as he noticed who it was but it soon changed to confusion as he noticed that she was carrying his daughter.
"What do you want Shizune?" he asked unemotionally as she landing in front of him.
Shizune flinched a little at his tone, but she quickly steeled herself. "I found your daughter trying to leave the village."
That took Naruto aback for a moment, "What? Why?" he asked.
"It doesn't matter anymore." Shizune said, "I cleared it up."
"Well I guess I need to thank you for that." Naruto said, taking his now asleep daughter.
"I owe you an apology Naruto," Shizune sighed, playing with her fingers, "I overreacted. It's just… I guess I didn't expect something like this."
Naruto closed his eyes and looked at the shorter woman, "I owe you one to, I lost my temper back there."
Shizune nodded slightly before smiling and looking back up to him, "So, are we okay?"
Naruto grinned and nodded, "Yea, I guess so."
Shizunes smile stretched across her face and she stood on her tiptoes to give the taller blonde a light peck on the lips, careful not to wake the young girl in his arms.
"I'll see you later Shizune-chan." Naruto said after a few moments of silence, "I need to get home and get us ready for dinner, Kaa-san wanted me to bring her over."
Shizune nodded and turned to leave, but silently walked over and gave the young green haired girl a light kiss on the cheek, shocking Naruto, "What? A mother can't give her daughter a good night kiss?" she said jokingly. Naruto smiled and chuckled a moment before turning and leaping of the roof to his home in the Namikaze compound.
The Konohagakure no Sato council chambers.
Minato sighed and drummed his fingers against his table. It had been nearly six hours since he had met his new granddaughter and it was finally time for the least enjoyable part of the adoption process, informing his council. Normally something as trivial as an adoption would not even need to be brought up in the council meeting, but Fu was a different case. Not only was she a jinchuuriki, but she was also being adopted by the Hokages son, not to mention she was from a different village. It was something that could potentially cause huge problems. He closed his eyes in preparation and then opened them to glance around at the council.
To his left was the Shinobi Council. They were the less troublesome of the two sides. They consisted of the heads of all of the major clans.
The first two were the clans that were arguably the most important in the village, the Uchiha and the Senju.
First was Tsunade Senju, the slug sannin. She had pale blonde hair it two low pig tails. She was quiet tall and had extremely large… uh assets.
Beside her was Fugaku Uchiha. He was a stern looking man, but was also one of Minato's closest friends. Minato sighed as he thought about the forceful takeover the Uchiha had planned a months before he took office. Luckily, Minato didn't hold the same anti-Uchiha prejudices that Tobirama Senju and Hiruzen Sarutobi did and he repealed all of the laws that suppressed them at the same time that Fugaku was named head of the clan, and they stopped the rebellion.
Several other shinobi clans also inhabited the village along with the Uchiha and Senju, but none of them were as politically powerful.
The first of the smaller clans was the Aburame, led by Shibi Aburame. He was a quiet man who only spoke when it was very important. He had spikey black hair and black glasses on.
The next was a larger, reddish-brown haired man in red samurai-like armor. Choza Akimichi.
Next in line was a man who was almost as stern as Fugaku. Hiashi Hyuuga had long black hair and the signature white eyes of his family.
Next was a feral looking woman with short brown hair and slitted eyes with a large wolf sitting beside her. She was Tsume Inuzuka.
Next to the feral looking Inuzuka was an average looking man with brown hair and a mustache. He was Murakumo Kurama, head of the smallest clan of the village.
Next to him was the genius yet indescribably lazy Shikaku Nara of the Nara clan, a clan that was famous for its lazy men and exceedingly violent women.
Next to him was an older man who had bandages around his face and was leaning on a cane. His name was Danzo Shimura, an elder of the Shimura clan who was sitting in on the meeting for his clan head, and a notorious war hawk. He was probably the biggest problem Minato would face in the meeting.
Sitting next to the elder was the Hokages own wife, Kushina Uzumaki. She was of course, Minatos biggest supporter, go figure.
The last in line was a blonde man with pale blue eyes. Inoichi Yamanaka.
Minatos head lulled to the side as he looked to the other, more annoying side of the council, the civilians. They were always fighting for power, and were constantly sticking their nose into the business of the shinobi, most recently was their attempt at changing the curriculum at the academy, but Minato ended that quicker than it started. Truthfully he never even bothered to learn their names.
Minato cleared his throat, gaining the attention of both sides.
"Do you mind explaining why you called this meeting Hokage-sama?" said one of the civilians. She had pink haired and her voice sounded like nails on a chalkboard.
"Of course." Minato started. He stood up went through a small series of hand signs before his chakra formed itself into a large picture on the wall. It was of a young green haired girl.
"Who is that Minato?" Fugaku said, throwing the question that all of the shinobi were thinking into the open.
"This is Fu," Minato said, "Or to be more specific, Fu Namikaze."
Every one of the council members except for Kushina gasped, clearly not expecting such a response.
"What do you mean Minato?" Tsunade asked, shocked.
"I mean that my son Naruto has officially adopted this girl." Minato said.
Inoichi Yamanaka raised his hand to get the attention of the Hokage, "Well Hokage-sama, that is nice and all but why do we need to have a meeting for this?"
"Because she is not from this village." Minato said, causing a few eyebrows to raise at the weak reasoning, "And she is…"
"What was that Hokage-sama?" Danzo said.
"She is a jinchuuriki."
The council had extremely varied reactions, the shinobi sides eyes widened in shock, the civilian side exploded in anger and Danzo just smiled at the response.
"Which tailed beast?" Danzo asked calmly.
"Nanabi." Minato said, though it was barely audible over the roar of the civilians.
Danzo nodded, now the village had two jinchuuriki and was no longer outnumbered by Kumo, Kiri and Iwa. Normally he would make an attempt to get the Hokage to hand her over to him for training, but he still had the scar from where he had attempted that with the Hokages son.
When the civilian side finally calmed down Minato continued, "This is not to leave this room, understood?" he growled, though it was directed at the civilians. All of them nodded hastily, knowing that Minato would not put up with them breaking his laws the same way the Sandaime did, "Meeting adjourned." He said as he stood to leave. He wrapped his arm around his wife and they disappeared in a bright yellow flash.
Later that night, Namikaze Compound.
The Namikaze compound was a fairly big compound. It was not the size of the Uchiha or Senju residence but it was enough for the small family that was currently living there. It was originally built for the Uzumaki who planned to establish a branch in Konoha before they were destroyed.
In the main house, Minato and Kushina were setting up for dinner when they heard a knock at the door. Minato moved to open the door to reveal his son and granddaughter. Naruto had not really changed since that morning, but he was no longer wearing his sage cloak. Fu on the other hand looked totally different. She was cleaner for starters due to the bath that she had taken in the house that Naruto lived in. She was wearing a forest green sun dress and a pair of pinstriped stockings that Naruto had sent a clone out to get since she did not have any other cloths.
Minato smiled as he let the two in. Naruto carried Fu into the kitchen where his mother was making her ramen, but Kushina automatically stopped when they walked in, preferring to grab Fu and smother her into her breast.
Minato pried his wife off of her, "Why don't you two wait in the living room?" he asked.
Naruto chuckled and led his daughter into the room. Naruto collapsed onto the couch and Fu walked around and looked at everything silently.
Fu was looking at a picture of the Namikaze family when she felt someone tug at the back of her dress.
She turned around to come face to face with a boy the same age as her. He had whisker marks just like her father, but they were much more faded, almost like pencil marks compared to the tattoo like markings on Naruto. He also had black hair and one black and one red eye.
"Hi!" he said excitedly, "Im Menma, what's your name?"
"F-F-Fu." The girl stuttered.
"Do you want to play?" he asked, and pulled her by the hand before she even had a chance to answer. He led her over to a toy box in the corner and opened it to show every kind of toy she could imagine. "Let's play ninja!" Menma said as he picked up a small plastic shuriken and ran off. Fu smiled brightly as she picked up a toy kunai and followed Menma, causing Naruto to smile faintly.
"Well it looks like they are going to get along." Minato said from the kitchen doorway.
"Yea." Naruto responded tiredly.
After dinner, which consisted of Sukiyaki, Sashimi and of course, Kushina's famous Ramen, the two children disappeared again. Minato, Kushina and Naruto looked all over the house for the two and eventually found them laying snuggled together on Menmas bed. Minato smiled and Kushina cooed at how cute the scene was, but Naruto got a very ominous feeling that he would have to threaten to castrate his little brother in the future.
