He saw it out of the corner of his eye, the letter. Of course he only had chance to catch a quick glimpse but he was certain it was from him. Jonny had never met the man himself but he knew enough about him and the effect he'd had on Jac's life. No, he was certain the letter was signed off 'Joseph.'

Jonny knew he would never be able to live up to the big man's name, or ever manage to fill his shoes. He'd never be a surgeon with a high paying salary than his partner. But he was himself; the man with a big personality, an old romantic and a huge heart. Instead he broached the subject feeling it necessary.

'Do you still love him?' the nurse questioned suddenly without thinking about the words

'Who?' she replied, barely looking up from her mountain of paperwork

'You know who...Joseph...'

'I did.'

'You did?'

'Of course I did'

'And now?'

'And now...I love you. I'm having your baby for goodness sake Maconie. I'm not having Joseph's child, I'm having yours' A part of Jac softened as she spoke the words Jonny wanted to hear. The cold woman reached out and took the man's hand in hers. 'I love you...do you understand that?'

'Of course I do' his smile lit up the room, his heart beating faster than he could ever remember 'Jac, I love you more than you'll ever know' Without another word Jac just pulled Jonny closer and embraced in a warming kiss. At that very moment something inside her changed, forever.
