Chapter 3: All Grown Up

12 years later….

The 10-year-old dragon had grown up to be 16 years old. He had lived in the woods for 6 years. He was surprised that apes or anything else that would want to harm him never found him. He figured that the war was over, but didn't want to leave the forest. Even if the war was over, he knew he didn't have a home to go back to in the city. Plus, other than being lonely, he was quite happy living in the forest. He had gotten to know it quite well. He knew just right places to find food, and he always had a supply of water from the river, which he continued to live beside. He'd grown up to be a very independent and strong, dragon. He was completely red, with large, yellow spines from his head and down his body. The spines get smaller as they get closer to the end of his tail.

Suddenly, for the first time in 6 years, he heard a voice in the distance.

"Sparx!" a voice yelled.

The red dragon quickly went to investigate.

"Sparx! Look out!" the voice continued, "Nooo…ahhhhh!"

He followed the voices he was hearing. It sounds like someone's in trouble.

He came to find another dragon - a purple dragon. Wow… He knew these types of dragons were extremely rare. He'd never seen one in real life before. He also saw that he was battling a large group of apes. The red dragon stayed out of sight, wanting to help, but not wanting to get himself into trouble either. It seemed like the purple dragon was doing just fine himself though. He breathed fire, just like him. He noticed one of the bigger apes holding something that lit up quite brightly. The purple dragon kept glancing at it as well.

I wonder why he wants that lantern so badly...

He quickly realized that it wasn't a lantern that the big ape was holding once he heard it talk. There was a dragonfly inside.

"Get me outta here, Spyro," the yellow dragonfly said, "I think my wings are singed."

Spyro. That must be his name. The red dragon didn't want to wait any longer to introduce himself. He hadn't spoken to anyone in years. He was desperate to have a friend, or at least a conversation.

"I gotta report to Cynder," one of the apes yelled to the other.

Cynder… Flame thought. Maybe the war is still going on, after 12 years. Spyro finished off the rest of the apes.

"Hey!" he called out, "Up here!"

Spyro and the dragonfly looked up at him instantly, shocked to see him.

They both stared at him unsurely.

"He kind of looks like you," the dragonfly whispered to Spyro. The red dragon glided down towards them.

"Uh, hi." Spyro replied, backing away slowly. It was the first time he'd ever seen another dragon, and he was a few inches taller than Spyro.

"Sorry, I've been living in these woods for about 6 years and I've never seen anyone else," the red dragon started, "I'm not gonna hurt you."

"Awesome," the dragonfly replied sarcastically, "Well, we should probably get going, nice to meet ya!" he said as he started to fly away.

"Wait, Sparx. Don't be rude. You can come with us if you want." Spyro offered to the red dragon.

He let out a big smile and said "Thanks!"

He followed Spyro and Sparx back from where they came from.

"We've never been down in these parts before," Spyro explained," So that's probably why we've never seen each other. Where are you from?"

The red dragon replied, "I used to live in a city, before I came to the forest. It's pretty far away from here I think."

Spyro looked at him, confused, "The city? I've never heard of any city near here before."

"Oh it was great," the dragon started, "It was full of great big buildings and small huts. All of the buildings were either bright white or a brownish- yellow colour. The rich dragons lived in the buildings while the poor ones lived in the huts. It was full of dragons, young and old. The birds were always singing and the sun was almost always shining. Even when it was raining, it was still amazing." The dragon smiled as he reminisced on his memories of the place where he used to live.

Spyro looked at him in awe. Wow… the city sounds great.

Sparx asked, pretending to not care about what this city was like, "Hey, what's your name, anyways?"

Oh, right," the red dragon replied, "I'm Flame."
