Or why Shiro wasn't affected
We see a ten year old boy standing on a cliff. The wind was blowing dramatically around him sending his black hair flying and the sea crashed against the stonewalls of the cliff. The boy's strawhat was blocking the view on his eyes and his mouth was set in a straight line.
This was the scene a pirate came to. This pirate loved his diamond shaped pendulum with it he can cast illusions on his targets. The boy was still standing there, seemingly he didn't notice the pirates approach.
The pirate, Jingu, crawled over so that he stood besides the standing boy. He eyed the expensieve clothing the boy was sporting and immediately a plan came to mind. He freed his precious pendulum and started swinging it in front of the boys nose. "You will obey my every word after I say 1... 2... Jingu" The pendulum started swinging and suddenly the day turned black as black clouds started to gather ominously. "1... 2... Jingu!" with that the boy should be obedient. What Jingu didn't hear was a bubble popping.
Orange, almost brown, eyes snapped open and watched the crazy man with the pendulum. "Now you will go into town and hold yourself ransom." Jingu commanded. The boy snorted. "Yeah... that will work brilliantly, do you even know which town we are near?" Jingu blinked but he still believed in his hypnotism skills. "Do it!" He yelled at the rebellious boy. After that he turned around and was about to walk away. That was turning out to be a mistake as he was tripped by his own pendulum.
"What have we got here?" The boy said softly in his hands the diamond form of the pendulum. "That's the cheapest jewel I've ever seen." the boy stated, smirking at the downed Jingu. "And trying to hypnotize me while I am asleep is a failure in the making. Now let me show you how you use your toys as a weapon." he was smirking sadistically now and Jingu could only pale. The sound of a cracking chain was heard as the floor they were standing on was used as a demonstration. The ground split apart. Jingu gulped.
In the nearby village, everyone could hear the tortured screams. No one was really intrested into investigating the noise except for a 17 year old with wild black hair. That led to the first meeting between Roger and Shiro.
Jingu was at home, afraid for his live. He then proceeded to tell his son to never use a metal chain and a diamond formed jewel for his own pendulum. To this day Jingu could only crawl under his bed whenever he saw someone with black hair, which wasn't easy on his wife. As she had black hair. She then decided to leave them for a rogue bandit who won her heart. Jongo, Jingu's son, followed his advise but grew up without a mother.
When Jongo was on his journey he encountered a teen standing on a cliffside. The day was filled with violent gales and the sea smashed against the bolders below. Jongo tried the same approach as Jingu, only his pendulum was triangle shaped with a thick elastic band holding it. Needless to say he spend the rest of his life with his old man. Hiding in fear everytime a black haired individual that was near.
His wife sadly passed away from the stress of raising their black haired son alone. The son then died his hair blond. After that Jongo warned his son, Jango, to always make sure the chain or band or rope can not go long and that he shouldn't choose any pointy formations for the pendulum. After that Jango was left on his own because the dye was quickly washed out and his old man and his old man's old man were useless in raising him. So their decision was to kick him out. He was promptly found by an eccentric old farmer and his half-crazy sister who was also his wife. Jango grew up with a lot of strange disasters which were his fault anyway. He developed the same love for the pendulum that his predecessors had.
Meanwhile Shiro regaled Roger with the tale of the irritating/annoying meeting he just had. After he was finished. "Is it just me or do hypnotists really think they can hypnotize someone who is asleep?" Shiro asked. "You do know that most of the human race don't fall asleep standing up randomly. Or standing on cliffs for that matter... how didn't you fall?" Roger asked shocked as he still laughed at the predicament of his friend.
Shiro just huffed and swore silently to himself, the next hypnotist to interrupt him would suffer...at least if they woke him up... He swore it by the kingyo's annoying laughter. Which means Roger best hope that he doesn't meet any hypnotists in the future. Rogers hearty laughter was interrupted by the menacing chuckle of Shiro.
Roger gulped.
