Jade stepped onto the field. "Who's my opponent?" she asked to no one in particular.

Smoke curled up around the entire field, causing everyone, including Jade, to cough.

"I Mei Lin!" came the confident female Ra Yellow voice from the other side. "I crush you!"

Aurora cringed from the balcony.

Jade grinned. "You think you're tough, don't you?"

Mei smirked. "In my town, we introduce before battle. What your name?"

"My name is Jade Anastasia Opal Kairi Worthington Yukito! And you are wrong if you think you're going to win today!"

"Wow," Aurora mused. "She's pretty confident for someone who never duels."

"Pretty competitive, if you ask me," said a voice. "It could very well be her downfall."

Aurora looked at the speaker beside her. He had dark blue hair and wore a blue jacket in contrast to Aurora and Jade's red ones.

"You're an Obelisk Blue!" she cried.

"That's right," Zane said.

The blonde girl standing next to him smiled, her golden eyes twinkling. "I'm Alexis, and this is Zane. We usually hang out here to watch the duels, like this one. By the way, who is that down there? It looks like Jaden, dressed up as a girl."

Aurora looked over the edge of the balcony. "Oh, that's Jade Yukito."

"What?" Alexis exclaimed.

"There's a boy at this school whose name is Jaden Yuki," said a voice. "And they just want to make sure that's not him. But they don't need to worry. I'm Jaden. What's your name?"

A boy with auburn hair and brown eyes wearing a red jacket stepped out from the shadows. He extended his hand to shake Aurora's.

Aurora blushed. "I…I'm Aurora Snow," she said, not shaking Jaden's hand.

Jaden blinked, wondering why she wouldn't shake his hand. "I don't bite," he said.

She laughed nervously in return. "I'd better get ready. I'm dueling next." She turned and ran away, still blushing.

"Good luck!" Jaden shouted after her.

Back on the field, Mei was pumped. After Jade laid down a facedown, she'd played a monster and a counter-trap.

Jade, in turn, shaking off her nerves, played another monster in defense mode. It was about this time when Aurora got down to the playing field.

"Come on, Jade!" she screamed. "Put my deck to good use!"

A heavyset bald man in a red jacket looked at her. "Her name is Jade?" he questioned.

Aurora was caught off guard, and wanted to go back to watching the duel anyway. "Yes," she said a little too quickly, irritation in her voice.

"And she's dueling with your deck?"

Aurora hesitated. "Yes."

"Why?"

"Um…" Aurora didn't want to say anything because she didn't know if Jade would get expelled without a deck.
