A/N: Okay guys, I decided to try and finish this story up before I post new stories. I'm trying to place this one somewhere between 5 and 7 chapters. There isn't some big battle plot line with this story, just Kate and Bella being cute and on the run from the Cullens and the Denalis. So far the Volturi are a non-issue, so again, nothing super dramatic going on.

The person who tried to continue the one-shot has apparently decided to delete the story and not repost it, so I'll just continue with the story under the original one-shot.

Read and Review, let me know how you like this second chapter.

Chapter 2

"So where are we headed?" Kate asked as we drove.

"Mhm?" I mumbled as I turned my eyes to her before glancing back down at my wedding dress. "Ugh, somewhere to get a change of clothes. Unlike Sally Field, I wasn't able to get a change of clothes before taking off."

Kate snorted at my answer and turned her golden eyes to me. I swear my heart skipped a beat as her eyes met mine, and the smirk on her face let me know she was aware of that missing beat. "Referencing Smokey and the Bandit now are we?"

"How else am I supposed to know what kind of a person you are if you don't get simple movie references? I dropped several of them during my time with the Cullens and most of them remained oblivious. I think the only ones who understood were Jasper and Emmett," I returned, smirking as well. God, it's been ages since I've been able to relax this much. I don't think I've smirked once since I left Arizona.

The blonde vampire laughed, not a musical tinkling sound that I heard some of the Cullens issue, but a real, honest laugh. "That's not surprising, that bunch isn't really big on movies, not the kind I think that you find interesting," Kate said after she got a hold of yourself. "But you never did answer my question, where are we going?"

"South," I replied. "I'm not too particular where, just south and a new change of clothes."

"Think you can last until we reach Portland? It's a few hours drive, but I think I might be able to cut the time down."

"Of course you can," I snorted, rolling my eyes. I closed my eyes for a while, choosing to look at the inside of my eyelids instead of watching the scenery speed by around me. "So you're my mate," I commented, cracking an eye open to see Kate's reaction.

If the vampire exhibited any sort of surprise, my eyes missed it. The only reaction that I could visibly see was the darkening of her eyes and the tightening of her hands. "You figured it out," Kate stated, not looking at me.

"Wasn't hard to figure out," I said after a moment. "I felt an instant connection to you, and you were rather smug when I kissed you instead of getting married to Edward. Plus, you abandoned your entire family to follow me and take me away from that circus. Adding all of that together, I knew some mystical, mating stuff was going on."

"I thought that you thought that Edward was your mate," Kate sputtered and I grinned victoriously, knowing that I finally caught her off guard.

"I did think that, once upon a time," I admitted. "I thought that when we first started dating. When he left though, part of me knew that he wasn't it for me. I didn't want to admit that though, and I lived in a state of denial for months. After he came back and the mess with Victoria, nothing was the same, not as it once was anyway." Kate nodded, accepting my words. "Were you going to tell me that we were mates?" I asked after a few minutes.

"Truthfully I was going to tell you the minute I saw you, but Tanya told me not to. She didn't want to disrupt your wedding, claimed we owed it that much to the Cullens to not mess up Edward's big day."

"Wait, Tanya, your coven leader and sister, was just going to allow your mate to marry someone else? How are you okay with that?"

Kate's hands tightened around the steering wheel again and anger appeared in her eyes. "It's not. The only reason I didn't lay into her or tear every vampire there apart is because of the humans present and the fact that you came to me instead of getting married." The blonde smirked, "I definitely wasn't going to let you go on your honeymoon though. I was masking my thoughts from Edward, but I was thinking of various ways to abduct you if I had to."

"I appreciate that. Wouldn't have made much of a difference though. The idiot thought that I was a virgin, and Edward wanted to be able to 'deflower' me. That ship sailed years ago. Though since Edward is a perpetual virgin, he probably wouldn't have known where to stick it, or forget to put on a condom or something stupid like that," I scoffed, rolling my eyes.

"Mhm, so the little tiger isn't as innocent as widely believed," Kate grinned. "Do tell me, who had the honor of taking your V-card."

I waved my hand dismissively, "Well the hymen was taken care of years ago either through a tampon or horseback riding lessons Renee insisted that I try, not sure which one exactly. And as for the physical aspect, a girl I met at a party took care of that just after I turned 16."

"I'm a little sad that I don't get to be the one to 'deflower' you," Kate replied, shooting me a wicked look. "It is comforting to know that you've only had one sexual experience though. I have much to teach you then. You're going to need the practice, keeping up with a succubus and all that." Kate let out a purr, and placed her right hand on my thigh. I had moved the ridiculous dress out of the way when I got in the car, leaving my left thigh exposed. As her hand ghosted up and down my leg, my brain short-circuited and started to misfire.

"Mhm," I groaned, trying to focus on anything other than the soft coiling in my lower stomach. "Ah, I eh, I wonder why Tanya basically ordered you to be okay with Eddikins claiming your mate?"

"I have no idea," Kate murmured, giving my thigh one last squeeze before she removed her hand. "Perhaps she was trying to our coven's relationship with Carlisle and the rest of the Cullens a good one?"

I snorted, "A little late now, with this whole runaway bride routine we have going on right now."

"I feel that it was a pretty impressive maneuver."

"Well, it was my wedding, I could runaway if I wanted to," I replied, looking over at Kate. I found myself staring into golden eyes and I quickly lost track of any thought in my head."

Kate kept driving and managed to make it to Portland without having to stop for gas. "Do you need me to come in with you and help you change, I mean pick out clothes?" Kate asked. The slight wiggle of her eyebrows let me know that Kate was totally unrepentant with her question.

"No, despite what Alice may think, I am a grown woman and perfectly capable of dressing myself," I retorted, holding out my hand. Kate merely looked at it and back up at my face. "Well, I need money to buy clothes, figured I'd ask my Sugar Daddy for some funds."

The blonde smirked and took out a large wad of cash and handed it to me. "Go buy yourself something pretty sugar," she drawled out, "Complements of your Sugar Daddy."

I rolled my eyes and took the money. "Why do you have this much cash on you?"

"I usually keep a few hundred thousand dollars of cash for emergencies, plus I took Tanya and Irina's as well. Figured they owed it to me, with trying to keep us apart and all that. While you're getting some new clothes, I'm going to trade cars and get some other things that we'll need on the road. What kind of food do you want for now? You must be getting hungry."

"Something greasy, juicy or fried, preferably something all of the above. The Cullens kept forcing salad and pasta at me recently. I have nothing against pasta and salad, they're just fine, but what's a girl gotta do to get a good burger or steak around here?"

Kate smirked and I saw a flicker brush across her face as more lust entered her eyes. "You're just constantly full of surprises aren't you," she purred, eyeing me up and down. "I'll be back in hopefully about an hour, half an hour tops."

"Bye Kate," I replied as I turned and stalked into the outlet mall that she was dropping me off at. I quickly located one of my favorite clothing stores in the mall, one that Alice would never let me enter when she dragged me out shopping with her, and approached one of the sales assistants at the desk. "I need help," I said, motioning towards my dress. "Runaway bride here, can you help me get a bunch of normal clothes, and quickly?"

The girl, who looked to be about my age, looked me up and down with wide eyes before rushing me back towards the changing rooms. "What size are you and what are you looking for?" She asked, pushing me into one of the rooms.

"I fluctuate between a 6 and an 8, so make good choices on that one. As for clothing, jeans mostly and as for shirts, I'll take anything, but nothing with a pattern! Just solid colors, I'm so sick of patterns," I muttered out that last bit, thinking of all the floral prints and patterns Alice forced on me.

"What about graphic tees?" The girl asked.

"Those are fine, make good choices," I told her, willing her away so that she could hurry back with some clothes.

The sales assistant left and returned about fifteen minutes later with a stack of clothes. I picked through the stack and pulled out a pair of jeans and a dark blue ¾ sleeve, off the shoulder tunic. I quickly shucked the wedding dress and pulled on the clothes. "Ah, much better," I said, turning to look at myself in the mirror. "Huh, not bad." I tried out the rest of the clothes and left the few that I didn't like in the room. I walked back out into the store and picked up a few more things that I liked, along with some underwear and bras before I made my way to the shoe section. Browsing through the selections, I asked for some sneakers in my size, a pair of flip flops, sandals and a pair of knee high boots.

After I finished trying on the shoes, I took my entire collection of clothes and shoes to the counter and checked out, including the clothes and boots I was wearing. The entire time spent in the store was a little over an hour so when I went back outside, I saw Kate wearing a different set of clothes leaning against a Chevrolet Corvette. "Traded in the Mustang?" I questioned, handing the vampire my bags.

"Figured I should get rid of it before someone tracked us," Kate replied, placing my bags with some others in the back of the car. "Got some new clothes for myself as well, and some snacks for the road. And for you mademoiselle." She handed me a box and I instantly started salivating at the smell coming from the box.

"Gimme," I said, grabbing for the box, but Kate held it just out of reach.

"Now, now, what do I get for all of this?" Kate smirked.

I stared disbelieving at Kate for a minute, before a thought crossed my mind and I smirked. "How about a kiss?" I returned, sauntering up to her. A part of my brain wondered where this newfound behavior was coming from, but again, the majority of my brain didn't care. I stood on my tiptoes when I was right in front of her, leaning my body into hers. My lips were about an inch from hers, when I detoured and softly kissed the corner of her mouth. I snatched the box of food out of Kate's hands and settled into the passenger seat of the car.

Kate looked frozen for a moment, still as a statue before turning and looking at me in the car. "Sustenance," I cooed, grabbing the burger in the box with both hands and taking a huge bite. "So good," I muffled around the beef and bacon in my mouth. "And you bought me cheese fries to go with them, definitely like you more than the Cullens."

I saw Kate roll her eyes and smile as she made her way to the other side of the car. "If that's the reaction that I get for getting you a burger and cheese fries, I can't wait to take you to this place I know that serves great steak."

"Mhm, steak," I moaned around my burger and fries as Kate started back on the road, heading further south. "Wait, how would you know if it was great steak or not? I didn't think vampires could eat human food."

"Did the Cullens tell you that?" Kate snorted. "Well, I guess for them it is true, since their main diet is animal blood. Human blood adjusts the body more to process human food. It breaks down the food once it enters our bodies and turns it into venom. Also makes us appear more human by giving us a little color to our skin. It doesn't sustain us like it does for humans, but we can still enjoy."

"Wait, human blood?" I asked nervously, setting down my fries.

Kate winced and pulled over the car before turning to me. "Yes, human blood," she said quietly after a minute. "I only drink animal blood on occasion, my main diet choice is human blood. But don't worry, I only drink bagged blood, or the occasional bad guy or dying person on the street."

"I wasn't going to freak out," I said, wiping my hands on a napkin that came with the food before reaching for Kate's hands. "Truthfully, I always imagined that when I was changed, I would probably drink human blood. I can't imagine killing an innocent animal, or person for that matter, but criminals or bagged blood wouldn't be so bad."

The blonde vampire stared at me for a minute and smiled before putting the car back into drive. "Well, in that case, let's get going. I already made reservations for the night at a bed and breakfast in Northern California in the same town where my steak place is. The town also happens to be near one of my favorite wineries. We can visit it tomorrow and go wine tasting."

"I would love to go wine tasting, but I'm underage so there's no way they would let me have any," I pouted, finishing my food.

Kate chortled, "Oh, I might've made some calls to my lawyer and had some new identification for you sent to the hotel. I know you didn't want to get married, but we are apparently on our honeymoon."

I rolled my eyes at Kate's forwardness. "As long as we can skip the whole wedding nonsense, and put a hold on the honeymoon part, sure, why not."

"I was looking forward to the honeymoon part though," Kate pouted, flicking her eyes towards me. I felt, more than saw, her eyes burning into my skin, as she looked me up and down where I sat in the passenger seat.

I cleared my throat and Kate slowly tore her eyes away from me and returned them to the road ahead of us. "So where are we going?" I asked after a moment, "After California anyway."

"Where do you want to go?"

I shrugged, not caring. "I'm not too particular. Not Forks and not Phoenix, other than that I don't care. We probably shouldn't go someplace sunny though since, well… You kinda sparkle in the sunlight."

"Don't worry about that, I can always wear make-up and long sleeve clothes to cover most of the sparkling. Now, taking all of that away, where would you like to go?" Kate stressed again, looking over to me.

"Hmm, Disneyland, oh and Disney World!" I said excitedly, almost bouncing in my seat. "I've never been to either places, and I would love to visit them."

"What? Never been to Disneyland or Disney World?" Kate cried in outrage. "That's ridiculous, we have to go! And then after we visit the ones in America, we can visit the rest of them too!"

"My mom kept blowing through all of the money we would save to go to Disneyland so I never got the chance. Charlie was never any help either. He would send a little money, but always the minimum and it went to make sure the electricity stayed on," I muttered, bitterness lacing my voice.

"Never had much of a childhood did you?" Kate asked quietly after a minute.

I turned my eyes out the window and smiled sardonically. "Yeah," I muttered. "Probably why I never had a problem with no longer being able to have kids when I'm eventually turned into a vampire. I've already raised two children, my own parents! I don't feel like raising any more children. I want time for me, ya know, me and my significant other." When I finished speaking, a shocked look crossed my face, "I totally did not mean to say all of that."

"It's okay," Kate said, placing her hand on my leg. "I want to know more about you. And truthfully you being changed is something that I wanted to talk to you about."

I nodded in understanding, "You want to know whether I still want that to happen, and when?" At her nod, I continued. "The only reason I wanted to marry Edward was because, one, he refused to sleep with me and two, he refused to change me until after we were married, the prick. The Volturi basically ordered him to change me, and he was still thinking of ways to avoid it right up to the end. I think if I had married him, he would've avoided the whole issue until it was too late."

"Wait, the Volturi know about you?" Kate asked, startled. At the tone in her voice, I quickly told her about how I went to Italy to save Edward's stupid ass, and the ultimatum that they gave him, change me or die. "He really is an idiot isn't he?" Kate growled, her hands nearly twisting the steering wheel.

"Yup," I replied, despite knowing her question was rhetorical. "And even though Alice told them that she would change me, I have a feeling she would never go against Edward's wishes. None of them would, they would rather see me die than changed I think."

Kate snorted, "I've known the lot of them for years, and I have to agree with that statement. So do you, want to be changed that is?"

"Of course," I nearly yelled. "It's all I've ever wanted since first finding out."

"Just making sure," the blonde chuckled. "When do you want to be changed? Even with the threat of the Volturi weighing down, I don't want to change you before you're ready."

"You're going to change me?" I asked, slightly surprised.

"Yup," Kate popped the 'p.' "It is a great honor for vampires to change their mates, to have their venom running through their mates." Kate's eyes darkened and she shot me a lustful look that had a shiver racing down my spine and my blood growing hot.

"Um," I stuttered, trying to shake off the desire to just jump the vampire where she sat. Jumping the one driving the car wouldn't be a good idea. "So, yeah, I wanted to be changed right away so that I would be close to the same age as Edward, but I'm almost 19 years old now. I don't want to be a teenager forever, I would like to be in my 20s before I'm changed if that is possible."

Kate seemed contemplative for a minute before nodding. "I think that we can figure something out. I know some people that might be able to help us."

"Who?"

"Some old friends in South America, and despite how I feel about the Volturi, I've managed to keep some friendships there. I'll make a call, and see what I can do."

"I trust you won't get us killed," I said. "Now, off to California for a few days?"

"Some really good steak and some really good wine and some really good se-" I slapped my hand over her mouth before she could finish her sentence.

"Don't push it…"

Yes I know that it's like a common trope now, vampires can eat human food yada yada, but I like the idea in particular settings. I don't always use this idea, but I felt it would fit with this story. Bella is a little OOC, but I like her better out of character.
