Mia's eyes slowly fluttered opened, squinting at the sunlight beaming through the window. She slowly sat up rubbing her eyes and then looked around to take in her surroundings. She was in a small room with dingy grey walls and nothing but the bed that she was laying on and a single chair in the corner of the room by the window. As she studied the room she began to wonder how she had ended up here, that is when her train of thought returned to yesterday evening. She had gone to the Faithful Bride to find her father Jack Sparrow and had ended up in a brawl; it was the last thing she could remember. As she tried to piece together the events of the previous night she was distracted by a knock at the door.

"Who is it?" she called out looking down on herself to check if she was decent and noticing she was still fully clothed.

"Captain Jack Sparrow" a voice replied.

Mia's eyes widened, a lump formed in her throat upon hearing the voice of the man she hadn't seen or spoken to in eight years. She stood up from the bed, "One moment please." Her heart began to race and she started to breathe heavily, weighing up in her mind whether or not she was ready to face this. Mia slowly made her way to the door, taking deep breaths in an attempt to control herself. Lifting up a shaking hand she took hold of the doorknob, twisted, and pulled the door the open find Jack Sparrow standing in front of her.

The sight of him brought up a wave of emotions inside Mia. Relief that she had finally seen him after all this time, sadness for having missed him all these years and angry for having abandoned her and her mother. She would for now have to swallow her emotions; the time would come along eventually where she would confront Jack.

"Did I wake you?" he asked.

"No, I was already awake" Mia replied monotonously just staring straight into her father's eyes. "Is there something I can help you with?"

"I just came by to check up on you" replied Jack, noticing she was just staring straight at him. "Everything alright luv? You seem to be just staring into space" he said with a slight chuckle.

"Oh sorry" she said realising what she had been doing diverting her gaze away from his face. "Would you happen to know how I ended up here?" She asked, "it's just that the last place I remember being was the Faithful Bride."

"I do as a matter of fact" Jack said happily. "Unfortunately you got involved in an altercation with a group of miscreants, you seemed to be handling yourself quite well, until I heard a scream as I was leaving" he said pausing to look at Mia. "I came back and took care of the bastards, only to find afterwards you had passed out, probably from the shock of it all."

"Thank you" said Mia. "Was it you that brought me here?"

"Yes" said Jack. "The only decent inn on the island. Forgive me though, you don't seem like you are from around here, or at least that part of Tortuga you were in last night."

"Well no not exactly" she replied. "It's a long story though" she said looking at him, working out by now that Jack hadn't recognised her.

"Well my apologies if I disturbed you, I best be on my way" said Jack putting his hands together as if he were about to say a prayer and turning around to head down a corridor.

"Wait!" called Mia grabbing her satchel and following him. "Where are you going?"

"I'm a very busy man my luv, raid, pillage and plunder and all that malarkey!" Jack responded with a wave of his hand as he carried on through the corridor and down a flight of stairs.

"Can I come with you?" Mia asked hot on his heels.

Jacks stopped and turned around to look at her with a quizzical look on his face. "With all due respect my dear, why on earth would I do that?"

"Because I need your help" she stated breathing heavily. "I know you Jack Sparrow, Captain of the Black Pearl; I came looking for you last night."

"Of course you did, everybody always wants something from dear old Jack eh?" he smirked turning back around and continuing down the stairs "But another time luv, I have places that I need to be" he finished walking out the front door of the inn.

"Please, I need your help!" cried Mia still chasing after him as they made their way through the streets of Tortuga.

Jack rolled his eyes. "And what exactly would be in it for me?" he called behind him.

"Hemming!" Mia shouted.

Jack froze in his tracks and after a slight pause he turned around to look at Mia who was now standing just few feet away from him. "Hemming?"

"I believe that name means something to you" said Mia fixing her gaze upon Jack's eyes.

"I might do" he said abrasively. "How do you know what it means?"

" I've been sent to find you" Mia stated.

"By who?" replied Jack coldly.

Mia thought for a moment. Should she tell him who she was? Perhaps he would be more inclined to help that way. Or maybe keeping him in the dark was not such a bad idea either. But he had promised in the past to help Lucy if she ever needed it. "Why does it matter who sent me?" she asked tentatively.

"I would just like to know what I am dealing with darlin'" replied Jack walking towards her.

"A family member sent me" she stated firmly, fixating her gaze on Jack.

"Oh so with that information I should just trust you?" He retorted.

Mia started to feel nervous, the last thing she wanted to do was buckle under the pressure. "Fine" she said. "Lucy Hemming sent me."

"Lucy" Jack whispered, just loud enough for Mia to hear. My Lucy he thought sadly. "What's happened to her? Where is she? Why would she send someone and not come and find me herself?" he said starting to get angry, who was on the verge of invading Mia's personal space.

"She's been taken!" Mia blurted out and swallowing hard. "I don't know where she is!" she said trying to hold back tears. "She just told me to come and find you" she said trying to control her breathing and taking a step back from Jack. "She was taken after she was asked about her grandfather's treasure."

"I see" said Jack.

"She said you know where the treasure is and that you are the only one that can help" said Mia in a pleading tone. "Please?"

"I will help you" started Jack, "on the condition that I get a share of the treasure".

Mia looked at him with an expressionless face, Pirate she thought. Did he even care about her and Lucy anymore? Did he forget that he had a daughter? "That will be up to Lucy when we find her. But I am sure we can come to some sort of agreement" Mia said waiting for a reply from Jack. "Besides, she said you owe it to her".

"That I cannot disagree with" he replied. "Firstly then I'll be needing your name."

Mia thought for a second, giving her real name now would raise questions and awkward discussions, something she just was not ready for yet. "Joan".

"Joan" repeated Jack. "Does Joan have a last name?"

"Hart" said Mia. "Joan Hart".

"Right then Joan, do we have an accord?" asked Jack putting his hand out to shake Mia's.

She paused for a moment to look at Jack and then his hand. She had no choice; if she wanted to find her Mother she would need Jack's help. "Yes" she said with some reluctance shaking Jack's hand.

"Good" said Jack happily. "So Miss Hart, now that I know your name we will be needing ourselves a ship and crew."
