Age 12

It was a day like you'd never forget. Everyone was on a serious mood and Jessi kept begging to tag along the mission. "Come on Dad PLEASE I can handle myself out there." "No Jessi, this is serious you could get hurt." Jack said in a firm voice that morning. "I need you to stay at Torchwood today. Clean up, feed the monsters, you can sit in the old apartment and watch tv or something. Target practice or something." Jessi crossed her arms. "It's not fair! You're off SAVING THE WORLD and I have to sit and watch reruns of stupid tv shows during the daytime!" Ianto walked into the room and shrugged his jacket on. "What's going on?" "Jessi wants to go out today." Ianto looked at his daughter, who he usually melted into her wills, and lowered his eyes. "No, absolutely not." Jessi groaned and flopped back onto their bed. "Thank you." Jack muttered to Ianto who kissed him on the cheek. Ianto looked at Jessi who was staring at the ceiling humming what she called 'The Tick Tock Song' since she was six. Jack could feel Ianto's guard falling as his eyes saddened. He gave him that 'Don't you dare cave into her THIS TIME.' look. Ianto sat next to Jessi and she turned over to look at him. "Whats the real reason I can't go?" Jessi asked. Ianto sighed, "Because it's really dangerous, everything we've let you do we have been 100% sure that it's something you'll be able to live through.. this is just too unpredictable We can't lose you. You're the only daughter we'll ever have." Jessi sighed and nodded. "Then why are you going?" "Because we get PAID to risk our lives. You wouldn't have this exciting home schooled life without it would you?" "No." "Will you come home?" "Of course, I promise." Jack thought of when he first joined Torchwood and the man's whom he once knew anger. How all that had changed in years times and now it was this. The Man he once knew was many different men, as much as in a separate time he would have LOVED that orgy, things were much much different now. Much easier to stay tied to the man he loved. Ianto smiled. "Come on let's go to Torchwood headquarters and meet up with everyone." Jack looked at myself in the mirror and gave a soft little smile…

Most of the day was tedious to Jessi. She fed everything that needed to be fed, stared at the television for god knows how long and did some shooting practice. Usually she'd be allowed to go out to shops on her own but today was very strict. No leaving under any circumstances. The old apartment was dusty as ever because they hadn't lived there in years. The Television was outdated and terribly hard to stare at. Around 6 in the evening she fell asleep on top off a metal table. At 9:05 exactly everyone walked in with sad looks on their faces. She didn't see Jack, she didn't see Ianto. Gwen's face was the saddest. "Gwen?" she said. Gwen didn't look at Jessi just nodded. "What's going on?" Not even Owen would look at her. "Where's Jack? Owen, Tosh, Gwen where are my fathers?" Still nothing. "Guys where are my dads?" Nothing. "WHERE'S MY DADDIES?" Jack walked in then his face red and tear stained. "Oh daddy!" Jessi ran to him and wrapped her arms around him hugging him tightly. "Daddy whats happening?" Jack didn't say anything but wrapped his arms around her tightly. "Oh kid…." He began and stopped catching his tears. "Where Ianto did he have to do some clean up? What happened?" Jack began to speak and his voice caught and he hugged Jessi tighter. "Ianto can't…. he…. you know how I can do that thing?" Jack asked staring at her. "Not dying?" Jessi said questionably. "Well.. he.." She pieced it together and pushed Jack off her. "You're lying and it's not funny!" she snapped. "Jessi why would I?" "I don't know but its a cruel JOKE. Why would you?" Jack took an article of clothing off his shoulders and she realized it was Ianto's jacket. But the Jacket had blood on it. "No… This… No… This is… he promised…" Jack's eyes filled with tears. "I begged… pleaded.. don't leave us Ianto we need you… but he slipped away…" Jessi couldn't take this anymore. She left and ran home. She couldn't take this.. it was a lie.. he'd be there in the little old apartment… just sleeping on his bed covered in a few cuts that would no doubt become a small scar on her fathers face. He'd still take her places and teach her tech stuff like always. He would take her to America next time they went over and show her all the sights they could get to. They would still talk about things that could be. Jessi ran into the apartment. No Ianto on the couch. She searched and searched. The bedroom? No. The kitchen? No. No where to be found. Jessi checked her room last and nothing. She sank to the ground and began to sob. It must have been true then.. everything.. Her dad was dead.. she was never going to hear his laugh again or listen to him attempt to sing along with people on Britain's Got Talent. Her father had lost a lover and she had lost her dad.

A Few days later everyone stood over a fresh grave that belonged to Ianto Jones. It wasn't much of a funeral just the people from Torchwood and members of Ianto's family Jessi had never met. She didn't really feel like talking to them. She bid her hellos and goodbyes and that was all she did. After words Jessi just stood there by herself until she sunk down to her knees. After a while a man who she had never seen before walked up behind her. She didn't react like she should have. Her guard was down and that could have ended dangerously. The man was older looking at stood a bit taller then Ianto ever did or ever could have. "Hello.." he said to her his voice shaking. "Look, I don't know who you are. My dad's Uncle or great grandfather or something but I can't really talk.." The man laughed "Do I look like someones Great Grandfather?" Jessi looked up at him. "I guess not.. you just look older." The man smiled and got down next to her. "Was he a good man?" "Yes." She answered. "He was the best father and person I could ever know…" "You know you'll never forget him don't you? He will always be in your heart." Jessi couldn't help but smile a little. "Ohana means family and family means that no one is left behind… or forgotten." "Thats a great motto." "I got it from a movie.." Jessi stood to her feet and wiped her dress off. "I really should be going.. I'm not supposed to be here too long." The man stood up to and nodded. "What's your name?" Jessi hadn't really told anyone her name and she wasn't sure if should. "Jessica Amelia Harkness.." The man smiled. "Nice name." Jessi smiled "well goodbye.." she began to walk away and noticed the man was watching her. A red ribbon she had in her hair flew out in the wind and the man caught it. "Just keep it." she called. Jack walked over. "Whose that guy?" he asked. Jessi sighed. "I don't know…" The man gave Jack a nod that he seemed to find familiar because he nodded back. "Do you know who he is?" Jack looked at his daughter. "No," he lied "Never seen him before in my life."
