Chapter 2 – Upset
I walked out of our house and down to the beach.
Hey sky was dark, as usual, but I ignored the fact that it could rain at any second and just kept walking until I reached the edge of the forest.
Following the narrow dirt trail, I walked through the trees until I reached the top of the cliffs.
The breeze was rather cold up here but I just pulled my light jacket around myself and sat down, staring out at the waves. If I listened carefully, I could hear the waves crashing against the bottom of the cliffs.
For me, that was rather peaceful.
I lay back on the ground and closed my eyes.
I wanted to go to this dance academy more than anything but unfortunately; it looked like that wasn't happening.
I knew I was being irrational, asking my family to just pack up and move to another country just so I can attend a dance academy for like, a year or two but still, I could start a career in dance or something but no, again, not going to happen.
I soon found myself falling asleep. When I woke up, approximately half an hour later, it was just starting to rain.
I quickly stood up, wrapped my jacket around my shoulders and started making my way back towards the house.
I found myself tripping over my own feet quite a few times. This is what I found strange. I was able to dance perfectly fine, gracefully even, yet I couldn't walk in a straight line without stumbling.
I made it to the house just before the rain really started to get heavy. That didn't mean I wasn't wet though. My dad saw me and sighed.
He disappeared for a moment before he returned with a towel and wrapped it around my shoulders.
I just smiled at him and after drying off some of the water from my clothes, I went up to my room so I could change.
I showered first, to get rid of the chill from the rain, and then I changed into my pyjamas.
Conversation at dinner was light and the subject of the dance academy was brought up, but it was moved on from fairly quickly. Before my parents or brothers could start talking about anything else, I decided to make a suggestion.
"Uh... what if I were to get a job? I mean, I could help get some money and we might be able to move and I could attend the academy in England," I said, not looking up from my plate.
"Italia, it will take a lot of money for us to move," Mom said.
"A job wouldn't be much help. Sure, it would help get the funds we need to move and all but still, it will take a fair amount of time and you only have, what, two months or less until you have to reply to the academy to say you're going to be attending," JJ said.
I just sighed.
"If you want to get a job Italia, go for it but like JJ said, it may not help you get enough money in time," Dad said. I just nodded in response and pushed my food around my plate.
I ate a little more before excusing myself from the table and going up to my room.
I was going to do whatever I could to help my family get the money we needed to move.
I was a little upset that I may not be able to attend but hey, it was worth a shot.
About a week had passed and I had been talking to a few of the local businesses, trying to get a job, even if it was only part time. I mean, I could only work after school, on weekends and on holidays but still; I was trying to find a job.
Finally, a local cafe decided to hire me.
I was definitely happy about that.
School had gotten out about fifteen minutes ago and I was now standing in the local cafe, taking the customers orders.
I had been talking to my boss and she had allowed me to set up a tip jar.
This would help me raise a little more with my weekly pay.
So far though, no one had put anything in the jar.
Eventually, after I had been working for about an hour, someone walked up to the tip jar and actually put something in it.
I smiled to myself and moved on to take the next customers order.
Eventually, my shift ended and I looked at my tip jar.
Of course, since it was my tip jar, I was able to take the money out.
I put the tips in my purse, said goodbye, and walked out to meet my dad who was sitting in the car.
"So... how was your first shift?" he asked as he started the car.
"It was alright... boring, but good," I said.
I saw dad smile slightly and I just sighed.
When we got home, I went up to my room and took out the money to count it.
I had only gotten about $14 but hey, it's still good for a first day.
I just sighed, hoping I would get enough money to be able to move. It was highly unlikely. In fact, it was probably impossible.
A/N: Happy New Year guys! May 2014 be an awesome year for you all!
