Taken from Chapter 20 of The Thin Line
Lately I've noticed that there hasn't been any arguing between Stephanie and Bobby. Thing have been pretty quite around here. As I finished a call about one of our services, I looked up to see that Steph and Bobby had come back up from his exam room. As she stood there, I looked down her long leg to the boot that she wore trying to see what Brown had to do to her. The only thing you could see was a small white piece of tape sticking up from her boot. I sat back and did what I always do when Steph is around, watch her. I watched as some of the guys came up to her and she would smile warmly, greeting each of them assuring them all that she was ok. I smiled watching her because that's just who she is. A lot of the people around here are repulsed by us but not her, she smiles at us, hugs us, and genuinely cares for us and we love her.
While I continued to watch her I saw something I didn't expect to see. When Stephanie left Bobby and the guys she walked all flirty and looked back at him over her shoulder. It's amazing what you can see when you just sit back and observe people and what I just saw with the looks and the walk between Steph and Bobby there seems to be something brewing. I love Steph and would love to make her mine but if something is developing between her and Brown, I won't stand in the way of it.
Wanting to get the four one one on this, I jumped out of my chair and headed over to Steph cubby. When I got there, I stood in the doorway and studied her. She had that far away look in her eyes and never even noticed me until I made a big show of it by plopping down in her extra chair.
"So" I said and she looked over at me
"So?" she asked
"Is there something going on between you and Brown?" I asked wagging my eye brows up and down at her
"No, why do you ask?"
"Well" I began "the night you we were out looking for you when he came home he was so distracted he never heard me talk to him. He ran right passed me and lately you and he haven't yelled at each other ANDDD" I said all excited and smiley "I just saw the looks you gave each other"
Steph blushed and I had my answer "Les there is nothing going on between Bobby and me. He only see's me as a patient"
"Oh ok" and I believe that like I believe Ranger is green
Steph nodded her head at me and I left her to her thoughts and work. Getting back to my desk, I thought about Steph and looked over at Bobby as he still stood talking to one of the guys. Even though I loved her it was painfully obvious we were only meant to be friends. Bobby was my best friend; I won't step on his toes when things look like they're budding between him and Steph. If it's meant to be then in will happen but if this thing between her and Bobby moves forward ill still love her but I'll be the friend they want and be happy for them.
