"So did you guys hear about the Foxfire Cotillion?" Fitz asked, it had been two weeks and no sign of Dex or Moren it was as if he kidnapped Dex and then just vanished. All of the parents were freaking out but the Council wanted the students of Foxfire to remain calm and focus on their studies. Sophie looked up from the book she was reading about telepathy and stared at Fitz "A what?!" she asked and Fitz rolled his eyes in amusement "I think humans call it a prom?" he said in thought.
Sophie laughed and then looked at Keefe "Why haven't you asked me?" she asked and Keefe chuckled "The asking thing is actually a human thing, we elves do something far cooler!" he said with a beautiful smirk. Sophie thought for a second before she looked back at her boyfriend "You write a letter don't you?" she asked and Keefe gasped "How did you know?! Nah we send crystals to multiple people and whoever sends the crystal back is interested." he explained which prompted Fitz to clear his throat.
When the couple turned to him they saw he was holding a crystal, then they noticed around fifty crystals on his desk behind him "I actually got asked by someone I'm considering saying yes to." he said shyly with a blush. Thinking it was going to be Sophie, Fitz was shocked to see Keefe jump up and squeal in delight "Oh my god! Who is it?!" he yelled clapping his hands before stopping "Whoa Keefester pull it back!" he said to himself. The trio laughed before Sophie finally calmed down "Seriously though who is it?" she asked sincerely.
Fitz blushed again "I...I don't want to say. I don't think you guys would approve of her." he said as he put the crystal in his pocket and quickly changed the subject "We need to find Dex!" he said as his blush faded. Keefe and Sophie stopped smiling and nodded "You're right we shouldn't be laughing at a time like this!" she said as Keefe too her hand. After a few minutes Keefe spoke up "You know that finding Dex is going to be nearly impossible right? Unless the Council agrees to hand over the caches which everyone knows they won't, because who knows what Moren will do with that knowledge, but Moren covered his tracks too well for us to find him and even if we could we would need a Technopath of Dexs skill to track him." Keefe summed up which prompted Fitz to slap him in the back of the head.
Sophie glared at Fitz "Hey! No hitting my boyfriend!" she said and Keefe smiled before Sophie turned and slapped him in the same spot Fitz did "I'm allowed to do that!" she said and Keefe smiled again as he kissed her cheek. They all sat in comfortable silence for a while before their was a knock at the door "Hey guys!" Linh said as she and Tam walked into the room "What are you guys up to?" she asked as the twins sat down on Fitz's bed. They explained the whole situation about Dex and Morens return and Tam growled "What does it take to kill this guy?!" he yelled and Keefe held up his hand "Um...he was dead. Evidently not even death can stop this dude. So killing him isn't a very effective method here Bangs Boy." he said with a small smile that left Tam mumbling to shut up.
Wanderling Forest
"Ahhhh Councilor Zarina!" Moren said as he polished the staff he had made from the branch of the tree, it was now a char black and polished with magsidian reinforcement and a titanium blade with a razor sharp point put in the bottom tip of the staff. Two Black Hand soldiers had the councilor on her knees in front of Morens throne that was woven from two trees he had chopped down "You are the only person that can control lightning...true?" he asked the women before him. Zarina nodded and Moren laughed a little "Wow the last person I had here, he begged for his life! Killed him slowly! I wonder why you aren't." he said with a look of confusion on his face. Zarina glared at him "I have faced many dangers in my life! Nearly died multiple times but not ONCE have I ever begged for my life! I have no intention of doing that now so you do what you have to child!" she said, her voice oozing with venom as she stared at the insane teenager.
Moren laughed as he got up from his throne "Oh don't worry I'm gonna kill you whether you beg or not but first I want to know where your cache is!" he said with another smile. Zarina scoffed "Never will I tell you that! I will take the secret to my grave!" she yelled and Moren frowned and then grinned "Okay suit yourself!" he said and swung his staff. The blade cut Zarinas throat and the councilor fell to the ground clutching her bleeding throat but Moren took his boots and pushed her arms away and let the blood rush out.
Moren gingerly cupped his hand under her bleeding throat and let the blood pool in his hand, then he lifted the blood and rubbed it against his staff, it then glowed a brilliant blue before dying down. Moren smiled as he saw the nearest soldier and pointed the staff towards him "My lord?" he asked before lightning shot from the tip of the staff and struck the soldier, killing him instantly and burning his body. The teenager laughed in delight "Blood! It's blood! That's the key to unlocking the abilities!" he said happily as he kicked Zarina in the face, causing her neck to snap and kill her instantly.
Moren looked at his staff in awe "So many powers that can be used! I just need the blood of people with those abilities!" he said laughing before he realized which power he wanted to unlock next...
