Chapter-3
Celestial Magic
Lucy looked around the violet-blue space, wondering what she was to do. The compass seemed to have calmed down now and didn't seem to want to drag her anywhere again.
"I'm supposed to find my magic and soul mate books," Lucy murmured. "But how on earth do I look for them amongst all of these books here?!"
"Hello there!"
Lucy turned around. She saw a pretty girl with short blue hair and hazel eyes, armed with a load of books in one hand and a duster in the other, float into view.
"Um, hello?" She asked hesitantly.
The girl let go of her books, which floated beside her and moved towards Lucy. "Hi, I'm Levy McGarden! What's your name?"
"Hello," Lucy said shyly, tucking a piece of hair behind her ear. "I'm Lucy. I'm uh, new to this place and-"
"Looking for your books?" Levy guessed. Lucy nodded. "It's nice to have a new person around here!"
"Thanks!" Lucy brightened up considerably. Then, she realized that Levy was probably a member of this place for a long time. So she'd know what this weird space like thing was about, right? Lucy opened her mouth to ask her-
-when the compass decided to act up again and dragged her to the bookcases.
Lucy shrieked, startled. Levy watched her closely as she was pulled over to the biggest bookcase in that space.
The blonde slowed down once she reached it, and suddenly, her hand moved of its own accord and touched one of the shelves.
Levy watched her in fascination.
As Lucy made contact with the shelf, a golden and silver book glowed and then floated out of its shelf and into her hands.
A title was written clearly across the book cover in ancient looking script.
'CELESTIAL MAGIC'
Lucy blinked. Wait, what?
Levy moved over to the bookcase. "Oh, wow!" She exclaimed. "You got Celestial Magic! That's really rare!"
Lucy was still feeling extremely confused as she moved to open the book.
The moment it was opened, golden and silver light shone out of the pages. Lucy almost dropped it in surprise. She ended up holding it with one hand weakly; not knowing what on earth was going on.
After a few minutes, the light ceased and three golden keys and five silver ones appeared in Lucy's other hand. The blonde stared at them, confused.
Levy clasped her hands in excitement. "So these are what Celestial Gate Keys look like! They're so pretty!"
Lucy looked at her. "Celestial Gate Keys? Is that what these are called?"
"Yup," Levy nodded, her eyes sparkling. "I guess you wouldn't know about it though, right? Let me explain."
"Please do," Lucy sighed. "I'm completely lost here."
"Right," Levy began. "Celestial Magic is a type of spatial magic that allows its users to summon spirits from a different realm."
Lucy blinked. "Spirits?"
"Yes," Levy said. "They are known as Celestial Spirits. Do you see the zodiac signs on the golden keys?"
Lucy looked down at them. "Yes."
"They represent the zodiac spirits that inhabit each golden key. I guess you'd be more familiar with those, right? Anyway, the golden zodiac keys are supposed to be the most powerful. Those spirits are supposed to have all sorts of amazing powers. And as there are only 12, it's incredibly hard to get even one, so you're really lucky that you have three!"
"I guess," Lucy muttered, examining the keys. "I think I recognize these signs…..this is Taurus the Bull, this one is Aquarius the Water Bearer. As for this one…."
Levy took a good look at it before answering off the bat. "Cancer, the Crab."
"Right," Lucy nodded. "So what about these silver ones?"
Levy frowned. "I don't recognize what constellations they inhabit. I can tell you this, though, they aren't as strong as the zodiacs and it's easier to get them. But some of them are pretty useful, I've heard. If you want to know which keys they are, you'll have to study your book a bit. There will be all sorts of information in there. But tell me this," Her hazel eyes glittered curiously. "Was anyone in your family a Celestial Spirit Mage?"
Lucy shifted uncomfortably. "Um, I really don't know…today's the first time I even heard about this sort of thing and I'm trying to figure out whether it's dream or not. But why do you ask?"
Levy shrugged. "It's because this particular Celestial Magic book is one that can only be opened by someone with Celestial Magic in the bloodline of their ancestors. I know this because I've found out a whole lot of trivia about almost every book in the whole library."
Lucy raised an eyebrow. "So does this change anything?"
"Well," Levy said thoughtfully. "Although Celestial Magic is considered a Holder Type Magic (that is, magic channeled through objects) I've heard that those who are born as Celestial Mages and haven't simply learned the magic, can even cast spells without the keys, channel their magic power as a weapon and so on, making it a sort of blend of Caster and Holder Magic. So this may make you a lot stronger than any other random Celestial Mage out there."
Lucy flushed and waved her away. "No, I'm still a newbie at this thing! Heck, I'm probably the weakest one here!"
Levy simply smiled.
Suddenly, the compass began to act up again. Lucy dropped her Celestial Magic book with a shriek as it dragged her over to the other side of the bookcase. Levy picked up the book (which had promptly shut the minute Lucy let go of it) and hurried after her.
When Lucy reached the other side, her heart beating rapidly from the sudden movement, a crimson book with orange flames painted on it floated out of the shelf. It had no title, but as the compass promptly stopped acting up and just disappeared from her fingers, Lucy had a feeling as to what it was for.
Levy beamed as she spoke.
"That's your soul mate book. Good job on finding it, Lucy!"
