With her emotions making her exhausted, Emma fell asleep with the sun barely visible on the horizon. For a while, Adrien watched as Emma drifted in and out of sleep, trying to find a comfortable position. He felt sorry for her, the seats do get hard to sit on after a few hours and he convinced her to lean onto his shoulder. Soon he heard soft breathing and saw her chest gently rise and fall. He smiled to himself, an affectionate look came to his eyes, but he didn't love her as he would a girlfriend or crush but as…. Who? She seemed almost like family and except for his Father; he didn't have anyone else but himself and Plagg. An idea popped up as he remembered his Kwami, he hadn't transformed in a long time, only a short while after the defeat of Hawkmoth. Maybe it was time to let a new generation feel the thrill of jumping from rooftop to rooftop, the adrenaline of fighting an Akuma and getting to see Paris in a different light than everyone else. Even so, was it wise to just give the Miraculous away? Adrien looked at the sleeping girl at his side. Well, he'll have to find out and see.
After roughly 10 hours since leaving America, the plane landed. Emma and Adrien exited the plane together while trying to avoid being squished by the crowd around them. When they got inside the airport, Emma stretched her stiff legs and went to go find her luggage with Adrien by her side, unaware of the debate going on in his mind. They got to the baggage carousel and waited for their bags to come around. Adrien saw his further down and left Emma to get her's. Emma spotted her's and easily grabbed them as she noticed an old man struggling with his across from her. She hesitated for a moment before lowering her own bags before approaching and helped the old man with his.
"Thank you, miss," He said and patted her hand before hurrying away. "You're welcome," Emma said under her breath, then noticed that he had dropped a…. what was it? She knelt down and picked it up.
It was a small, octagonal black box with a red design on it. Walking back to her luggage, Emma turned the box upside down and saw some small print on the bottom that she could not make out. Sighing, she put the box in her sweatshirt pocket and picked up her bags as Adrien walked up to her with his.
"You want me to drop you off at Alya's? It's on the way to my house."
"No thanks, she's supposed to pick me up," Emma replied and thought for a moment before hugging him. "Thanks for talking to me, it gave me some more hope and reassurance, I guess."
Adrien hugged her back. "You want my number, in case you need someone to talk to again or if something happens?"
"Sure, I'd like that," She reached into her pocket and handed her phone, dropping the box in progress. As it dropped to the ground, Adrien with years of cat-like reflexes grabbed it before it hit the ground.
"Where did you get this?" he asked when he realized what he just caught. His voice didn't hide his surprise as he handed the box back to Emma.
"I don't know, I just kind of helped this guy out when he dropped the box and hurried away." Emma shrugged her shoulders and put the box away.
"Aren't you going to open it?" Adrien asked, acting cool and collected but was nervous and confused on what the box meant.
She shook her head, "I'm going to see if I can return it, it looks like it could be an heirloom of some kind."
"EMMA! YOU MADE IT!" The scream came from almost across the airport, the person it belonged to zig-zagged and ran towards Emma and Adrien. "Zoe!" Emma squealed and rushed to meet her cousin. "It's been so long!" Zoe said and hugged Emma with excitement she couldn't contain. "You look beautiful since I last saw you!" Emma returned. It was true, her younger cousin had grown taller and her hair had the same fade of reddish-brown to dark orange like Aunt Alya's. She wore simple jeans and a t-shirt but also had on a leather jacket and her hair was pulled back. She didn't need glasses, but she thought that they made her look attractive in a sexy nerdy way, so she wore non-prescription ones.
"So what is my dear innocent, shy cousin doing with Adrien Agreste hmmm?" Zoe gave Emma a look that made Emma push her off. "What have you been reading this time? I can't believe Aunt Alya lets you read her novels... you're what, 14 now?" Zoe laughed the accustomed tease away as her cousin blushed a shade of red. "C'mon Mom said to meet her later at the Eiffel Tower when she's done doing her interviews, so we probably have enough time to go drop your bags off and catch up! I heard André is on his way to the Louvre, we can get there if we hurry!"
"Really?! What are we waiting for, let's go!" Emma ran a few steps before turning back and waved to Adrien. "Hope I see you around!" She said and ran off again before he could say anything. He sighed and relaxed a little. 'She'll have to find out herself what the box contains,' Adrien thought and looked down at his hand. He still had Emma's phone.
