Jack sat on his tree as he looked at the Moon silently. The soft whistle of the wind the only sound one could hear. The children had all done to bed, having sweet dreams that Sandy gifted him. After a joyous day of snowball fights and hide-and-go-seek. The once bustling lake was now a still landscape.
At night when Jack couldn't stand the solitude, he would seek out Baby Tooth. After the battle against Pitch, Jack has made time to spend with the tooth fairy. Jack would talk, and Baby would listen. Baby watched in wonder as Jack drastically transformed the villages, towns, and hamlets into a picturesque view. An image of an awestruck Baby Tooth appeared in his mind's eye. Jack chuckled to himself; maybe he should see the little tooth fairy tonight after all.
At the corner of Jack's eye, a bright light began to emerge. The Guardian turned his direction to take a better look. A light so dazzling, Jack had to cover his eyes with his right arm to protect his sight.
"Hello?" he called out as he walked blindly towards the light.
"You may open your eyes." a magnificent voice said. Jack did as he was told as he looked among the spot of the light. At the center of the lake were a towering woman, a child, and a teenage girl. A pretty girl Jack thought. A slender girl with long, lush snow white hair. Her skin glistening skin by the pale moonlight. It was her eyes that caught Jack's interest. One eye a vibrant violet and the other the color of a clear sky. Eyes that reminded him, someone.
"Jackson Overland Frost" the taller woman greeted.
"Who are you? And how do you know my name?"
"My apologies, I'm still adjusting into using formalities again. I'm the Evening Star. You may call me, Star" she said
"The Evening Star, like the twinkle-twinkle little star? Wow, you're not all that little"
"Always the jester, Jackson," the Evening Star chuckled. "I'm here to personally see to a wish."
"A wish?" Jack repeated
"Yes, this young winter spirit here, made a wish." Star as the girl blushed and staring holes onto the ground.
"A Winter Spirit? I thought I was the only one." In all his years as Jack Frost. He never met another Winter Spirit. Was she in hiding this whole time?
"That is correct. You were the only one. She's was freshly created. One could say today is her Birthday." Star marveled at the girl muttered under her breathe.
"Oh, Happy birthday," Jack said. As if possible the girl lowered her head further down.
"Come on dear, don't be shy now," Star said as the girl sighed deeply. She picked up her head, and those eyes shimmered a bit. Those eyes, could they be?
"Baby Tooth?"
"Hello, Jack." She brushed a lock of her hair behind her ear.
"Wait! What going on here?" Jack cried.
This striking Winter Spirit was Baby Tooth? His Baby Tooth? Just yesterday, she was no bigger than the size of his palm and covered in feathers. Now, here she was with a teenage girl. Was this the magic of a wish from the Evening Star?
"You said earlier you were here to grant a wish. Who's wish are you granting?"
"I thought it was oblivious already. Baby Tooth's of course."
"Baby Tooth, you wanted to be a Winter Spirit?"
"I didn't think I would become a Winter Spirit." Baby Tooth confessed.
"What was your wish?"
"I want to keep you company." Jack blinked taken aback by the comment.
"A simple-minded one isn't she? It's adorable" Star cooed as Baby Tooth flushed at the compliment.
"I thought you loved being a Tooth Fairy. I don't get it. Why did the wish have to change her form?"
"Jackson, a wish is far more complicated. This is the best outcome for her wish that I can guarantee" Star explained as Jack stared at the new Winter Spirit
"How long will she be a Winter Spirit?" he asked
"Forever," Baby Tooth said. "The wish is non-reversible."
"Non-reversible?"
"Yes, I spent some time deep in thought. For me, the pros outweigh the cons." Baby Tooth explained
"Aren't you going to miss your sisters and Tooth? Spirits, does Toothina know about this?"
"Yes, I confided in her about my wish." Baby Tooth took a deep breath. "Mother…" Baby Tooth paused. "Toothina…promised me that I will always be her, Baby Tooth. I'll still have access to visit the Tooth Palace and see my sisters when I please." Baby Tooth reasoned
This was too good to be true. For Jack to finally have a friend of his own! Jack had been alone for nearly three centuries. Going unnoticed by the children around him. Yes, Jack did spread joy and laughter in the hearts of thousands of children. But, at night similar to this one the spark of happiness would fade just as quickly as it came. Jack was left alone with his thoughts no one to share his ideas or plans for the next year. It was lonely being one-of-a-kind.
"I've heard your wishes, Jack. Truly, I have. It pains me that I couldn't grant them. But no soul could be that person."
"Let's not talk about the past," Jack said as he looked at his pretty friend, her cheeks still inflamed. "You're acting more like a Summer Spirit than a Winter Spirit with all that blushing."
"Jack!" Baby Tooth squealed as the Guardian began to laugh
"Now, I must be one my way. I have numerous other wishes to attend to. I'll leave the two to establish a Bond." Star said as she waved the toddler to return to her.
"A Bond?" Jack questioned.
"It's a shared link between Legends and their helpers. I had a Bond with Toothina and with all the other tooth fairies." Baby Tooth explained
"Yes, Baby Tooth. A Bond has created a connection between a Legend and their Helpers. The form a Bond can take all depends on the relationship, morale, and trust between the Legend and the Helper."
"Is there A Bond between us right now?" Jack questioned
"Maybe, why don't the two of you close your eyes and try to sense it" Star suggested.
"What should it feel like?"
"I can't say. Each one is unique."
When Jack closed his eyes, he said a single floating silver string in the middle of the vacancy of space. Jack reached out to take touch the glowing thread. The moment he did, a rush of emotions began to pulse around his mind. Feelings, that wasn't his. Emotions of excitement, nervous, fear and hope filled his being; these feelings were Baby Tooth's thought. Jack then released his hold on the string, returning him to reality.
"Well?" Star asked
"I think so?" Jack muttered unsure of what happened.
"Don't worry, it'll happen someday, I'm sure. Alright then, I'll be taking my leave. Congratulations are in order for the both of you." Star cheered
"Thank you" Baby Tooth muttered
"Again, Jackson," Star called as she picked up the small child into her arms.
"Yea?"
"Never mind, as you said, 'The past is in the past.' I wish you well." And with that blinding light reappeared and just as quickly disappeared.
Baby Tooth was here now, and they were alone. Jack noticed how stiff the Winter Spirit was and couldn't help but smile. He didn't take Baby Tooth as a shy person. She was rather bold against Pitch. Maybe, it was because she was no longer govern by just one emotion at a time.
"I should change my name," Baby Tooth said suddenly. "Since I'm no longer a tooth fairy."
"That's right; you're a Winter Spirt now. Baby Winter doesn't sound all that catchy." Jack joked as Baby frowned at the suggestion.
"It does sound awful. Do you think it should be winter themed?" she asked
"Yup, it goes with the branding. Jack Frost and Wynter Frost?" he said looking out for her reaction.
"Too respective."
"Icy?"
"I don't like it."
"Snowflake." That's a cute nickname, Jack mused. Baby Tooth's new dress did remind him of a snowflake.
"For my first name, no." Baby Tooth as she turned from Jack. She began to talk the opposite way with her right hand under her chin.
"Elisa, or Elsa?"
"Those aren't very wintery name," Baby Tooth murmured. "I've heard the name Eira before. How does Eira sound?"
"Eira Frost, it has a nice ring to it." Jack agreed.
"Eira Frost, it's easy to say. Quick and has four letters just like your name." Baby Tooth proudly turning around to look at Jack.
"Eira, I like it. Eira it is."
"Eira Frost, yes it sounds right." Eira slowly repeated. Then she began to recite her new name to herself, trying to memorize it.
"Eira, we have time to remember your new name. Why don't we get some sleep? It's pretty late." Jack reasoned.
"Right, all we have is time now" she yawned her eyes widening surprised that she was suddenly very sleepy.
"Come on; there's a cave not too far from here. I have some blankets we can share between the two of us." Jack said as he took to the air. He turned to his back to see Eris was still on the lake. That's right; she didn't know how to use her new powers. "Or we can walk to the cave. I'll teach you how to fly tomorrow." Jack said as Eira nodded.
A/N: In the past Baby Tooth's name was Lana. This time, I think Eira has a better ring to it. There are Easter eggs all over my this Chapter as well. Thank you all so much for reading and reviewing. Until next time.
Sincerely,
Serenity
