Chapter 3
At around 6:30 the next morning, Anna was relieved to see her daughter's door closed, and Logan draped over the sectional. Knowing that they had to wake up anyway, she went over to sit at his feet. She lightly caressed his cheek causing him to stir.
"Wakey wakey Logie." Anna cooed and Logan smiled.
"Five more minutes mommy." Logan whined.
"That's sweet, but I'm not your mommy." She responded. Logan's eyes shot open and he sat up quickly. Anna was sitting across from him, trying not to laugh.
"Oh man! Morning Miss Flynn." Logan said as he tried to calm his breathing.
"Morning sweetie. Sorry for waking you, but I remember you saying that the convention opens at 10 and the drive will be close to 2 hours."
"Thanks Miss Flynn." Logan smiled. He felt a bit uncomfortable after the night's events and with Leah's mother lingering, the feeling felt worse.
"So, how did the night go? I heard you both get in pretty late." Anna asked. They got in just before midnight which was the curfew anyways but she was curious and thought she could get more information out of Logan than her daughter.
"Oh! Uhm, it was a lot of fun! We managed to get as much candy as the kids, and some people even took pictures of Leah and Katie since they looked so good together." Logan was fidgeting now, avoiding eye contact.
"And the party?" Anna pressed. Logan's cheeks flushed as he thought about the party, about the very intimate kiss her shared with Leah…how so damn good it felt.
"Well, don't tell Mama Knight, but Kendall got a little drunk." Anna gave him a stern look but nodded.
"I was seventeen once and I admit, I did a bit of drinking and that got me into trouble. Just, be good and watch over my daughter ok?" Anna said. Logan nodded and she smiled. "Good! There are some biscuits in the oven, eggs and hash browns on the stove, and some bacon in the microwave. You like bacon right?" She asked and Logan nodded happily. "Great, I'll see ya'll later." She said getting up and heading for the door.
"Thanks for breakfast Miss Flynn." Logan replied as he got up from the couch.
"No, thank you for being sweet on my daughter. I mean, sweet to my daughter." She said shaking her head then closing the door behind her. Logan stared at the door, confused. Did she know already? Nah, even I don't know already? Or do I? These thoughts plagued him as he munched on some bacon.
The sound of piano keys broke his revere and he turned towards the sound. It was coming down the hall from Leah's room. He took slow steps until he was standing in front of her door. Cracking the door open, Logan was greeted to Leah's back still clad in a baggy t-shirt and shorts. She was playing a soft melody and only did it pick up as she began to sing.
My hands are shaking
My knees feel weak
My heart is pounding
I cannot speak
And it's all because of you
All because of you
It's so blurry
I cannot see
Don't you know whatcha doin' to me?
It's all because of you
Yeah, it's all because of you!
What's this feeling?
I just don't know
Is it love?
Nobody knows
But it's all because of you!
"Ugh!" She stopped suddenly, slamming on the keys which caused Logan to snap out of it. He didn't realize that Leah has such an angelic voice; her voice had the emotion of Adele, but Amy Lee's range. She had yet to notice his presence as she mumbled to herself. "Why can't I get past the intro?"
"I thought it sounded pretty good." Leah jumped at the voice and fell off her stool. Logan stifled his laughter but it was difficult, especially when Leah's eyes flashed as she glared in his direction. She didn't respond immediately as she rose and dusted herself off.
"Knocking would've sufficed."
"But I wouldn't have heard you sing. How come you never told me you could sing?"
"How come you never told me you were a good kisser?" Leah countered, smirking over her shoulder. Logan blushed at this but recovered quickly as he walked further into her room.
"I could ask the same." He said as he wiggled his eyebrows. Leah giggled in response as she turned fully towards him for a hug. They both weren't completely sure of what past between the previous evening, and an unspoken agreement fell before them; they both wanted whatever this was and wanted to try.
"I never knew…" Leah whispered, feeling a bit shy. Logan brought his hand to her chin then lifted it so he could look into her eyes.
"How can you not know?"
"That was my first kiss Logan." Leah flushed in embarrassment as she hid her face in his shoulder. Logan wanted to laugh just to ease the tension, but he didn't want to embarrass her further. He shook his shoulder to get her to face him again.
"That's pretty good for a first timer." He said with a wink. Leah rolled her eyes, but smile nonetheless. "Anyways, I came in here to tell you that you need to get dressed.
"Why can't we just stay in today?" Leah whined.
"Because I already bought the tickets for us to go." Logan replied. Leah continued to groan, but another tactic came to her mind.
"Well, I'm pretty sure my mom will be out for most the day so we could get away with staying in my bed all day." She said as she raised her eyebrows. Logan blushed in response and despite what his second head was thinking, he stepped away.
"As tempting as that sounds, I have to be a good boy." Logan said quickly, backing away to the door. Leah pouted and crossed her arms across her chest. Once in the hallway, Logan shouted, "be ready in 10!"
One hour and fifty six minutes later, they pulled in the crowded St. Paul Convention Center that housed the 44th annual math and science convention. Logan was extremely excited that he all but shot out of the car. And it took him an extra minute to realize Leah was still there.
"I don't mind staying in the car ya know. I have my iPod and cell phone to keep me company for a few hours." Leah stated making Logan roll his eyes in response.
"If you want me to watch 'Teeth' with you tonight, I suggest you get your pretty ass out of the car." Logan said smugly and Leah huffed as she exited the car. She stretched out her legs that were currently clad in black skinny jeans with white mini skulls and then she smoothed out her black graphic tee with white text that said '3.14=pie' with the word pie spelled out with the reversed numbers; Logan got a kick out of that.
Logan was dressed down for the day with a long sleeved dark blue dress shirt and blue jeans. Grabbing her hands, his laced his fingers with hers and pulled her along with him inside the building. Shockingly, there was a long line of people waiting; most of them male and clad in various 'nerd gear' from pocket protectors to thick frames to suspenders.
Leah looked between the line of guys to the one walking beside and silently thanked the Gods that she was blessed with this nerd; then she inwardly kicked herself for being mean…for being the misfit.
The line moved pretty quickly and Logan kept bouncing on his heels. After a few more moments, their tickets were exchanged for laminated badges that looked a lot like press passes. Leah tried to ignore the odd stares from the staff and various attendees as they continued to trek towards the main area where the actual convention was being held.
Leah gasped at the large open room and the amount of people walking around various booths set up. The ceiling was one big window that showed off the bright blue sky and the sun shining with it. Logan caught her staring upwards and leaned over to whisper in her ear.
"This room used to the planetarium for the building," Logan stated.
"Planetarium?" Leah asked. She knew she heard that word before, but she couldn't place it.
"I'll take you to one on our next date," he replied with a wink. Leah blushed at this and shoved him lightly. He pulled her along for awhile, stopping at occasional booths and sharing random facts. Leah listened intently, but it didn't take long for her mind to drift.
"I'm hungry," Leah stated when they stopped at the 50th booth of the day.
"Is it because someone skipped breakfast this morning?" Logan asked smugly. Leah glared at him and her stomach growled once more. "Good thing one of us is prepared," Logan stated. He reached into his pocket and pulled out cereal bars then placed them in her hands.
"My my Logan, so sneaky," Leah replied happily. "I thought that no outside food was allowed in here?"
"Shhhh, secret," he whispered.
"I think I've become a bad influence on you," Leah smirked as she broke off a small piece then hid the rest in her pocket. Quickly popping it in her mouth, she moaned quietly as she chewed. Logan's eyes darkened as he pulled Leah against him.
"Yes my dear; you are positively evil." Logan growled then nipped at her earlobe, making Leah giggle.
"Oh my gosh! Is that Logan Mitchell?!" A loud voice squealed. They both turned at the sound. A girl around Leah's height with long wavy strawberry blonde hair, tan skin, and a bigger chest came rushing towards them. Logan detached himself from Leah but kept her at arm's length; the girl rectified that by crashing Logan in a huge hug.
"Mary-Sue! Is that you?" Logan exclaimed once the girl detached herself from Logan. "Wow, you've…uhm, changed," Logan stammered.
"Well, how many years has it been Logie-dear? Close to three dang years! I was bound to change a bit," the girl, 'Mary-Sue' drawled out. Leah stood to the side, staring daggers at the pair. Noticing her change, Logan quickly spoke up.
"Leah, this is a buddy of mine, Mary-Sue. I met her during my last summer in Texas at camp. Mary-Sue, this is my very close friend, Leah." The word 'friend' echoed in Leah's mind as she shook the other girl's hand. Leah plastered a fake smile on her face as did Mary-Sue who quickly sized up Leah.
'She has no chance against me' Mary-Sue thought as she smiled back. "You seem to be doing quite well eh Logie?" Mary-Sue joked as she hip bumped Logan. Leah's eye twitched with each passing second.
"Me? What about you? What happened to the glasses, head gear, and wonder bra?" Logan said back in the same tone.
"Contact, invisalign, and puberty," she replied simply. This exchange went on for a few more minutes while Leah just stood to the side like an outsider as they shared inside jokes from camp and life back in Texas.
"How long are you here for?" Logan asked suddenly.
"I'm here till Monday since it's a holiday," she said with a shrug. "I had miles that were going to expire and I heard about the convention so…" she let her sentence hang. She glanced over at Leah for a moment then smirked. "Plus, I got to V.I.P. tickets to see Phoebe Nachee." She stated with a wide grin and showing off two laminated passes.
Logan's eyes widened as he stared at the passes. "What?! How did you get those? I thought the prospect of Phoebe Nachee showing up here was just a rumor!" He exclaimed.
"These went on sale on the convention website last minute sometime yesterday. I'm a little disappointed that you weren't staking out the website Logie," she sighed. "What has happened to you my dear?" She asked with a sickly sweet giggle.
"He was celebrating the holiday with me sugar," Leah stated, standing beside Logan, who was still in semi awe. He looked up then, staring between Leah's cold smirk and Mary-Sue's shocked expression.
"That's the Devil's holiday!" She gasped, doing a cross in front of her.
"It's actually Pagan," Logan stated before Leah could. Leah snapped her head to him so quick, she could've gotten whiplash. Mary-Sue spat at his words then calmed herself.
"Anyways, Logan," she began. "Would you be interested in attending her showing with me?" Logan guffawed at her request while Leah just stiffened beside him. 'I swear this bitch fucking planned this' Leah thought.
"Well, uh, I-uhm," he stammered. "Don't you have someone else to go with?" Leah inwardly squealed at his question. Mary-Sue's mouth fell open slightly then she began to pout.
"No! The person who was going with me today totally bailed!" She whined. "I was actually on my way to sell it when I spotted you!" She stated happily.
"Bullshit." Leah mumbled quietly. Logan gave her a small smile then turned towards Leah. Anxiety bubbled away in her stomach at the hopeful gleam in his eyes.
"Would you mind if I check out the panel for a bit? I've been dying to see her!" Leah's mouth fell open in a big 'O'. Before she could bite back a response, he started speaking again. "Please!" He whined, and then poked out his lip; she couldn't resist that look. But at that moment, out of her peripheral, Mary-Sue was smiling triumphantly.
"You know what? Go ahead. I'll be fine," Leah said with a fake smile. He hugged her close and whispered a bunch of promises for the rest of the day. Logan jumped happily and it killed Leah a bit to watch him go off with the skank. Before Logan could say anything else, Leah turned on her heel and rushed away.
"This is stupid!" Leah grumbled aloud. She was fighting back tears as she power walked past various booths and patrons. "Crying over a boy is completely and utterly ridiculous!" She scoffed again. Passerbies would glance at her strangely but Leah would just glare and send over the occasional middle finger.
By the time she got outside, she was able to breathe clearly. It was still cold but the air calmed her and the wind brushed against her flushed cheeks, but sadly, it didn't help her bare arms. She shivered as she walked towards where they parked and attempted to open the door.
"Fuck," she said after trying all the doors that were locked. She kicked the tires angrily then leaned her forehead against the passenger side window. Her black hoodie was draped over the seat, mocking Leah. She banged the window a few times, willing it to unlock for her. A sudden click resonated causing her to jump away. "Did that really work?" She asked aloud.
"It helps to have a key," a voice replied a few feet from her. She gasped and looked up seeing Logan standing in front of the car. He had a small grin on his face, making his dimple poke out.
"What are you doing here?" Leah asked. Logan took a few steps till he was standing in front of her.
"I'm here saving your ass from freezing to death," Logan said simply earning an eye roll from the latter. "And…I am also apologizing for being an idiot." Leah raised an eyebrow at his statement.
"Idiot? You? Why would the great and intelligent Logan Mitchell need to apologize for anything?" Leah said dramatically. Logan held his head then sighed.
"Because I'm still a bit fuzzy with the opposite sex and it took you walking around that corner for me to realize that I hurt you," Logan stated sadly.
She scoffed at this. "Psh, don't flatter yourself," she said, crossing her arms across her chest. Logan looked up then and tried to make eye contact with her; Leah did all she could to avoid it.
"When you smiled before hugging me and rushing off, I knew it was fake since you bared all your teeth; you don't show your teeth like that unless you are stressed or frustrated." Leah still didn't look at him but was kinda touched by his observation. "Plus, your eyes betray you…I'm just sorry that I didn't notice sooner," Logan said sadly. She still wouldn't budge and it took Logan hovering in front of her for Leah to finally look up.
"It's whatever ya know. Fussing over a boy is ridi-" Leah didn't get the chance to respond since Logan took that opportunity to silence her with a kiss. He pulled away too soon for her liking as she sputtered out 'culous'.
"Hmmm?" Logan asked, poking his dimple out again.
Leah then glared at him. "Don't think kissing me will prove as much of a distraction from my wrath Logan Mitchell!"
"How about a chocolate latte with extra foam?" he asked simply.
"That'll do it, let's go!"
Leah and Logan were currently lounging on the sofa of her living room surrounded by Chinese food containers and a few water bottles while the TV lit up the area around them. Leah was smirking at the movie they were watching while Logan was one of pure horror. The credits were now rolling, signaling the end of the movie and Leah muted it before turning her body towards Logan.
"So, what do you think?" The movie of the night, 'Teeth', just so happened to be one of her faves and judging by his face, it wasn't necessarily his at the moment.
"You know," he began. "at one point, I strongly considered becoming a Gynecologist…but after watching this, I'm not so sure." Leah busted out laughing at the seriousness of his tone.
"Oh my gosh, it wasn't that bad! Besides, each one of them deserved it," Leah said as a matter of fact.
"True, but now I'm afraid that if I so much as think of a vagina," he shivered then cupped himself. "I can't even finish that thought…"
"Well, it just teaches you be respectful of a woman and not take advantage," she replied with an even tone. Logan looked at her, noting that the joking in her face was gone now. He scooted over and wrapped an arm around her, causing Leah to lean in.
"Just so I can put it out there, if we ever get that far…"
Leah interrupted him then. "Yeah yeah, I know…just making a point. Maybe we should get James to watch it?" Logan relaxed and started laughing again.
"He would probably become celibate afterwards," Leah nodded in agreement. Logan pulled away to look at her and noticed she wasn't really smiling and immediately tensed up at his gaze.
"What? Do I have soy sauce on my face?" she asked.
"What else is bothering you?" Leah opened her mouth to retort, but Logan spoke again. "And don't say you are fine? After earlier, I know a bit better to believe it,"
Leah sighed and figured she better fess up instead of stringing it along. "Ok, try not to get mad and let finish talking before you jump it aight?" Logan nodded. "Okay; even though you didn't mean to at the time, it bothered me that you called me just a friend earlier."
"I'm really sor-" Leah quickly brought her hand to his mouth to silence him.
"Logan Mitchell, didn't I just ask you to stay silent? I know you're smarter than that." Leah grumbled and he rolled his eyes before nodding again; she left her hand in place just to be sure. "Anyways…my mind starting jumping around and at one point, I thought maybe she was an ex and then it jumped again. I just thought 'Oh man, how in the Hell am I supposed to compete with that? My own fucking head was the size of one of her tits!'"
Logan was still protesting, but all sounds were muffled behind her palm. Leah began to ramble on and it took Logan licking her palm to finally pull away. Mid rant, she exclaimed and pulled it away to wipe it on her shorts. She was about to lay in a string of curses when Logan decided to bring a finger to her lips to shush her.
"Now you listen here missy. I'm not going to lie when I say I had a crush on her at one point and seeing her today brought back old memories, but that is in the past. In all honesty, I think the blonde and tan look is all played out," he paused to look Leah up and down. "I prefer the raven haired fair look any day." Leah blushed at this and it didn't go unnoticed by Logan. "And I love the instances when someone with fair skin blushes; that is a rare treat."
Leah pulled back slightly so Logan's finger merely hovered in front of her. "That's all good and sweet, but you are still a guy,"
"And you are a girl." Logan answered not sure where she was going with this new topic.
"And what do all guys go for?" Leah asked, getting even more impatient and flustered which Logan thought was pretty cute on her.
"A sparkling personality?" Leah gave her best 'are you shitting me look'.
"Boobs! Did you miss me saying that hers were bigger than my fucking head?!" She huffed as her arms plopped at her side. Logan rolled his eyes then faced her. He can't believe how insane she sounded.
"Speaking as a member of the male species, not all of us go for that. Well, maybe James but he would bone any female that struck his fancy. Now, as for Carlos, he likes a girl with some leg and Kendall has a thing for hip bones and a nice back." Leah snorted.
"And what does the great Logan Hortense Mitchell go for?" Logan winced at the mention of his real name but instead, his fixed his gaze on Leah, leaning in as he did so.
"A girl with beautiful eyes. Why do you think I couldn't ever look you in the eye before? I would've been putty in your hands." Leah was too stunned to face him and decided just to hang her head for a bit. That was until she gasped, making her look up. Logan had grabbed her chest and was kneading them softly. "As for these, well, they fit perfectly into my hands so that's what really matters."
"You bastard," she said lightly while he smirked at her. Closing the distance between them, she kissed him hard on the mouth and didn't stop, not for a while and neither did Logan.
