AN: this took waaaaaay too long. I also have scene c)i) with me, but I'm planning to upload it with scene c)ii) eep. This is what happens when you don't actually plan out in detail and take into account the lack of motivation. Winces. But here it is! For the lighting in the scenes- I'm using really generic ones, but I think I want to play around with the mood- following my school's auditorium's lighting effects. But they'll start next scene.
Disclaimer: I don't own Sailor Moon, or that would honestly be weird.
scene b)i:
Lights on.
HARUKA rests on the roof top of the school, a cigarette hanging loosely from her fingers.
HARUKA
Breathing, is an addiction. Funny how we never manage to realise the detrimental impacts it has on our health. [gives a soft, hollow laughter]
MICHIRU enters the rooftop. She catches sight of the Student- but does not know his (or her) name.
MICHIRU
I'm sorry- I didn't realise- oh!
HARUKA [nods in acknowledgement]
New girl. You never learn, do you.
MICHIRU
It's you.
HARUKA
Disappointed?
MICHIRU [a hint of smile gracing her face- she is amused-]
Perhaps.
HARUKA
Who were you expecting?
MICHIRU [unsure- she is contemplating leaving]
No one in particular?
HARUKA
Then have I exceeded expectations just by being… someone?
MICHIRU
Perhaps… not.
HARUKA
Haruka Tenou. You're in my class.
MICHIRU
Did you catch my name then?
HARUKA
Slipped through my fingers, new girl.
MICHIRU
I am wounded, Haruka.
HARUKA [laughingly- finally turning to look at MICHIRU]
Do I matter enough for it to hurt?
MICHIRU [taken aback, but recovers soon enough- she moves closer to HARUKA]
Why shouldn't you? [takes a deep breath] My name, is Michiru Kaiou.
HARUKA
Indeed, new girl. Are you flirting with me?
MICHIRU
I shouldn't dare to dream of it. [pauses] Call me Michiru, please.
HARUKA
I would not offer that, if I were you.
MICHIRU
Why not?
HARUKA
Haruka Tenou- do you not listen? [jokingly, but her gaze is still serious] The freakish runner with a penchant for Greek orgies along the soccer field surrounded by bonfires.
MICHIRU
Michiru Kaiou- have you not heard? The equally freakish painter and violinist with a curse that she can unleash on anyone who dares to break her art supplies.
HARUKA
[chuckles] That, is hardly creative, coming from a painter and violinist like you.
MICHIRU
I agree.
HARUKA
And I, am leaving.
MICHIRU
Already? Am I not creative enough?
HARUKA
On the contrary, I believe that you- [stops leaning on the railing, and instead moves past MICHIRU]- are not boring enough.
MICHIRU
I don't understand- [hurt, because this seeming and new friendship has been torn away from her]
HARUKA
Did you know?
MICHIRU
[answers hollowly, a little shocked because she cannot stop the words from tumbling out] Know what?
HARUKA
That it could possibly rain diamonds on Neptune?
MICHIRU
W-what? [stunned, verging on laughing]
HARUKA makes a move to leave the rooftop.
MICHIRU [before HARUKA leaves]
You're really something else, Haruka.
HARUKA
[pauses in her tracks, rethinks] I'm a freak, Michiru.
HARUKA leaves the rooftop, leaving MICHIRU standing in the same position for a while, before MICHIRU starts laughing- bending over, hugging the sketchbook to her chest.
MICHIRU
Aren't we all, Haruka? [face contorts into one of fury as she spits the next word out] Freaks.
MICHIRU lingers and starts walking to the position where HARUKA once stood.
MICHIRU
You're warm, Haruka. Oh god, I sound like such a creep. [takes a deep breath, and coughs] Smoking, huh? You're such a delinquent.
[giggles] I am such a creep. Silly, silly Michi.
[sighs] Smoke is hazardous, but at least it is air. If we were to live on pure oxygen, every single fibre of our beings would corrode and burn. Contort and combust- scattered into a million tiny atoms. Scattered into stars that we all struggle to reach. What we don't know- what don't we know- that space is a brilliant word for the graves of us fireflies.
A shadow runs into the scene, and collapses- she has a fit. MICHIRU notices her, but barely moves.
SHADOW
H-help. It's hurting…
MICHIRU
…Are you alright? [approaching the crouched figure] You can tell me where it hurts.
SHADOW
Every single part- [wheezes, before falling flat on the floor]
MICHIRU
W-wait! [defensively] I don't even know her name…
MICHIRU struggles to carry the girl, but fails- she stumbles, and sighs- before deciding to stay with the girl for a while longer. MICHIRU slowly dozes off.
SHADOW [waking up to find a strange green-haired girl next to her]
Am I dreaming… again? Did I hurt her? [shifts uncomfortable under her weight] Hello? Please wake up! Are you alright, miss?
MICHIRU does not respond. The SHADOW sighs.
SHADOW
"You can tell me where it hurts"… But there is no way to wound someone else the same way the others wounded you. You only end up carving more scars or missing entirely.
HARUKA reenters.
HARUKA
What's going on? Hime-chan, are you alright?
HIME-CHAN
Don't call me that in school, Haruka. It will do you no good if they caught you-
HARUKA
What happened?
HIME-CHAN
-if they caught you addressing a child younger than you in such an intimate manner. They'd think of you as a pedophile.
HARUKA [amused, and yet slightly put off]
Hotaru, tell me what happened?
HOTARU
I was looking for you before I had a relapse-
HARUKA [immediately bends down to check her temperature]
[seething] You should have brought your medication along-!
HOTARU
Haruka. Stop. I'm alright now. She stopped it- or at least, I think she stopped it.
HARUKA
[glances over HOTARU's shoulder, as if noticing MICHIRU for the first time] New girl?
HOTARU [narrowing her eyes and wagging a finger at HARUKA]
You've been checking her out since day one. Her name- or what they say- is Michiru Kaiou. Stop pretending otherwise.
HARUKA
It wouldn't do good for her to know me, Hotaru. [softer] Are you alright now?
HOTARU
It's not like I haven't gone through them. They're just minor storms.
HARUKA
It's not good if it hurts.
HOTARU
Like you're one to speak. [catching HARUKA's raised eyebrow] The cigarettes.
HARUKA
It calms me.
HOTARU
You choke on the smoke all the time.
HARUKA
[aggressively] You choke on the air all the time.
Silence, as HARUKA realises that she's crossed the line.
HOTARU
[wryly] Indeed, indeed I do.
MICHIRU is roused, and slowly wakes up.
MICHIRU
W-what- Oh! [to HOTARU (or rather, SHADOW)] Hey- are you alright?
HARUKA
Thank you. I'm leaving.
MICHIRU
Alread- [realises that she's said the same thing twice] Ah.
HOTARU
My name, is Hotaru Tomoe. And she [gestures towards the leaving HARUKA], is an idiot.
HOTARU and HARUKA make their way off stage.
HOTARU
You really should get going too, Michiru Kaiou.
MICHIRU
How do you know my name?
HARUKA [suddenly turns back and walks towards MICHIRU until she is towering over her target]
Did you know?
MICHIRU
K-know what?
HARUKA [arrogantly]
That all students at this school have name tags?
MICHIRU stares, and bursts out in giggles. HARUKA joins HOTARU again.
HARUKA
Laugh on, new girl. You sound more humane that way.
MICHIRU
[accusingly] Then why didn't you know my name?
HARUKA
I never said I didn't know it.
HARUKA and HOTARU leave. MICHIRU sighs, tucks a stray strand of hair behind her ear, picks up her sketchbook, gives the place a final glance before leaving.
lights fade out.
