A big grin went across Leo's face as he nodded his head like a idiot before running to his room to get his blue duel disk that. Strapping it onto his arm he then pointed at the man.
"Okay let's duel!" He said excitedly as he began to tilt, almost falling over to the weight of his duel disk. Miles and Luna laughed at that and of course Leo flared up. "SHUT UP!" He yelled, getting his balance back before grabbing the man's hand and dragged him outside.
The reason why Leo's duel disk was to heavy for him was because as a gift for him and Luna, their father gave them pro duel disks intended for adults. Now Luna didn't mind since she didn't use her's but Leo did since it kept sliding down his arm and made him fall whenever he really swung his arm. As to why Miles just doesn't fix it for him is for two reasons. One, as mean as it is, was that he always got a kick seeing it slide off him and caused him to wobble. The other reason was that he had been spending a lot of energy on another project and never really thought of fixing them.
The bright sunshine glistened off the pool in their yard, Luna and Miles on some lawn chairs as the man and Leo shuffled their decks. As they did, Luna leaned over to Miles and asked him
"What exactly did you say to him?"
"I just told him to duel Leo and see if it sparked any memories" Miles told her as Leo and the man got their duel disks going and started the duel.
"Great idea" she said as he grinned then shuffled his hand through her hair making her giggle. "Stop" she said as he did but stuck his tongue out in response. It was only now that he realized how goofy he was acting when Luna walked in on him. It wasn't like she hadn't seen him naked before, they were siblings after all. As the duel started Miles went back inside and got two lemonades and also grabbed his deck from the counter. Heading back out he handed a lemonade to Luna and sat back down.
He took a sip as he began to look through his cards. Miles really wasn't going to pay any attention to the duel. He already knew the outcome, Leo was going to lose. Now that wasn't mean, Miles wished Leo could win but the problem was with Leo. He was too cocky and always relied on certain strategies to work all the time for a duel, and when they didn't he'd panic and lose. Miles tried to show him how to make a more flexible deck but was too hard headed to change.
Miles ran a warrior deck, and his ace card was colossal fighter. As he shuffled to it he smiled at it. This card had gotten him out of more jams then he could count. The card in a way represented himself. Colossal fighter only got stronger with the more warriors that were in the graveyard, which reminded him of the confident feeling he got when dueling with his friends and siblings cheering him on. Then he could come back from the graveyard if he was destroyed by battle, which like Miles even if he lost he'd just get back up and keep trying till he found a way. As he kept going through, he found some of his older cards. His hero cards, he use to duel with a hero deck but changed to warriors because he liked them a little better.
He kept them in his deck box because they still meant something to him. They reminded him of the guy who taught him how to duel.
The sun's heat beat down like hammar's on that summer day, the concrete pavement shimmered as a few droplets hit it. Miles was standing, hurt and hunched over, as he held onto his stomach and teared up as his bottom lip bled. Three other 10 years were ganging up on him, classic bullies. Only beating him up to get the deck he had stored in his back pocket. He wasn't that good but damned if he didn't have good cards. Miles couldn't run, he had tried and they just caught up to him and gave him the shiner that was now prominently taking up the left side of his face. Then all three of them charged and Miles flinched his arms up to defend before he heard something, like wind. Looking up he saw a green man with angel wings appear and charge at the bullies. The three of them got quite a scare and started running away from the crazy bird man. Miles panted as he looked confused, then from behind him he heard footsteps coming fast. Turning around he saw a man with brown hair and a red jacket kneel down to look at him
"You ok?" he asked as Miles looked at him even more confused. "Hey little guy are you okay?" he asked again
"I'm not that little" he said in response as the man let out a chuckled before he used his sleeve to wipe of some of the blood on his face, before Miles pushed off his arm. "Mister I'm fine" he said
"You didn't look that fine a couple minutes ago" he told him, Miles rolling his eyes
"Well it was 3 on 1 so of course I'm not gonna look that fine" Miles snapped back.
"Yeah huh" the man said unsympathetic "well why don't you go tell security about those boys then?"
"Because that won't slove anything!" he snapped back again as the man almost jumped back.
"Whoa chill out dude!" he said a little scarred as Miles began to cry a little again
"It's just I want them to stop… but if-if i…" he began saying through sobs "if I tell on them then they'll just beat me up for that, and if they kicked out of school then they'll just beat me up for that. If I tell they'll just find a way to beat me up to get my cards" Miles said completely baling.
"Hey, hey kid" the man said as Miles kept crying while the man gave him a loose hug. "Hey dude listen, bullies are bullies. They just exist and no one can do anything to keep them from coming, but if you get scarred by them then you're just letting them win" he said as Miles sniffled up and choked back his sobbing.
"But how do I make them go away?" he asked as the man looked at him and padded him on the shoulder before standing back up.
"Show them you're not scarred, show them they can't just take your stuff. And if they try then well chase them here tomorrow and I'll teach them a lesson okay?" he said as Miles began to wipe his face off and looked at the man curiously
"Why would you do that?" he asked as the man smiled
"Because I've seen you get bullied by those kids for awhile now and just got sick of seeing you have to go through this. So from now I'm gonna make sure you don't get another busted lip, okay?" he asked as Miles nodded his head.
"Thanks mister" Miles said, slightly unsure of how he should feel about this.
"Eh no sweat. And the names Jaden, Jaden yuki" he said as putting out his hand as Miles reached out to shake it.
"Miles soloday" he told him, the man being nice then walked him home and on the next day Miles was brave and tried to stand up to bullies. They weren't impressed so Miles had them chase him back to the spot where he had met Jaden and sure enough he was there with his duel disk on. Miles got behind him as the bullies stopped in their tracks. Jaden glared at them
"Oh hey there jerks" the boys were just wide eyed as they pointed at Jaden as he drew a card then played it, a demonic girl with bat wings and silver hair appearing in front of them. She hissed at the boys who yelped at the girl. "You listen here, if you hurt this guy again then I'll be the one coming after your decks and butts. And trust me that's a promise and I keep them you hear me!" he yelled at the shaking boys who shook their heads "now get out of here!" he yelled as he flung his hand and the demon kept hissing and rushed to them, the boys screaming as the demon chased them away. Jaden grinned as he deactivated his duel disk and Miles looked up at him. Jaden chuckled before speaking "I don't think they'll be coming back"
"Yeah" Miles said with a half smile, as Jaden ruffled Miles hair only to have him try and swat his hands away. Jaden let out a laugh before patting his shoulder
"Come one dude let's go duel, I want to see those cards they kept trying to get from you" he said as they started walking down the street
"But I'm not that good" Miles said
"Don't worry, I'll show you how to duel dude"
Present day
"NOOOO!" Leo yelled as he fell on his knees in defeat. Miles put his deck away just as the holograms began to disappear
"I wasn't paying attention did Leo last long?" Miles asked as Luna shook her head
"No and he did that thing where he narrates the duel" she answered as he rolled his eyes, that was something they kept telling him to stop because it was so immature. Both of them got up and walked over to Leo, the man as well, as it looked like he was forcing himself not to cry.
"Aw Leo don't cry" Luna said as Leo quickly tried to wipe the still forming tears away from his face.
"I'm not crying" Leo said in a sad tone of voice. Miles knelt down next to him and gave him a gentle nudge on the shoulder
"Hey you tried your best man" he said as the man nodded.
"Yeah, you have good strategies Leo. But you shouldn't spend all your time getting your monsters where you want them to be otherwise you can't adapt." He said as Leo rolled his eyes, there was that word again 'adapt'.
"So did the duel spark anything?" Miles asked as the man nodded
"Really?" Luna asked
"Yeah I remember everything now" he said as Leo smiled really big
"OH YEAH I DID IT!" he gloated as he did a fist bump, Miles giving him a flick on the shoulder to make him stop acting so goofy. Leo cringed as he rubbed his arm "Well then what's your name Mister?" Leo asked, only to get the man shaking his head.
"I can't" he said
"Why not?" Miles asked as the man pointed to his face where what Miles assumed was a big yellow tattoo. But on closer inspection Miles realized what it actually was, a facility marker.
"You see this right here, trust me when I say I don't think you want to know that much about me" He said as Leo looked down in disappointment
"But how can we be friends if we don't know your name?" he said a Luna looked at him
"That's the point Leo" she said as Leo looked at her
"Why not?"
"Just cause" she said then looked at the man "Do you want to at least stay here one more night, you know rest up and make sure your head's alright?"
"Uh Luna I don't think that's a good idea" Miles said
"Yeah I should probably get going" the man said
"Don't be silly, just stay one more night okay?" She asked as the man thought for a moment before nodding. Leo was jumped with joy that he was staying while Miles stayed a suspicious.
Later at night
Miles sat in his living in the dark as he heard squeaks go on about the place. Getting up quietly he started for the source of the noise, it was by the elevator. He saw a figure near the man's duel runner, breaking out his phone and turning on the flashlight he caught the man off guard
"Leaving so soon?" Miles asked as the man recomposed himself
"Yeah I have too, I know you don't want me here" he said as Miles shrugged
"Well you can't blame me, I mean if you let a guy with a security tag in your place you'd be inclined to get him out right?" he asked as the man nodded
"I don't blame you, just give me a few to get my runner in the elevator" he said as he began to push it while Miles was a bit perplexed. He really wasn't like your cliché criminal and he didn't have that kind of air you sensed around bad people.
"Hey, why'd you get that mark?" he asked as the man looked at Miles
"I illegally came here from the satellite" he told him as Miles raised his eyebrow
"That's it?"
"Yeah" he said as Miles shook his head and walked up next to him and helped him pushed his runner.
"That's not bad at all" he said as the man chuckled.
"Thanks Miles" He said as they entered the elevator and descended.
"Thanks… whoever you are" Miles said, getting another chuckle out of him
"Yusei… that's my name" he said as Miles nodded then put out his hand
"Then nice to meet you" he said as Yusei reached for his hand to shake. When they got to the ground level, Miles and Yusei pushed his runner out to the street before he started it without any problem.
"You take care man" Miles said
"I will, I can't thank you enough for helping me"
"Then don't, if your ever around again come find me."
"Why?" Yusei asked as Miles walked over to the side of the street near a garage and pressed a button. The door opened and revealed his duel runner, a long flat body with a whitish silver paint job and blue paint accents. "Whoa" Yusei said as Miles grinned
"Because I want to turbo duel you" he said as Yusei nodded
"A duel for a couple of nights at your place, seems fair" he said as Miles laughed
"Now get out of here! And don't forget to come back!" He said as Yusei nodded again then revved off, Miles giving him a quick wave good bye. Then he closed his garage and headed back up, all the while trying to think of a good excuse why Yusei wouldn't be in their home tomorrow morning.
