Chapter Three
"Miss McCallum I'm sorry but, Madame Pomfrey will no longer be able to watch little Jacob. She is far too busy with injuries during Quidditch season. You must find someone else to help you care for him. All of your Professors have agreed to allow him to sit in on your classes but, you will have to keep him reasonably quiet." Professor Dumbledore said, apologetically.
Kathleen shrugged, she would make it through the year. She would just have to find someone to help her share the responsibilities with her. She almost thought of Draco. Almost, she had to agree that seeing him cradling his own son was very heartwarming, especially because he didn't even know that Jacob was indeed the next Malfoy heir. She immediately squashed the notion. There was no way in Salazar's soiled trousers that he would help her with her son. Their son. It was cruel to keep him in the dark about Jacob but, what choice did she have?
"Um…well…" Kate muttered, not sure what to say to Professor Dumbledore.
"Perhaps I will make it a condition of Mr. Malfoy's schooling to help you care for your child as Extra credit and the two of you may use your free class period to instead care for your child together. As for informing Mr. Malfoy of his child, I will leave that up to you," Professor Dumbledore said, writing a note for Kate. With that, he sent her off to find Draco for what was sure to be a horrible situation.
She took Jacob out to sit by the lake to try and think of what she could possibly say to the Slytherin Prince that would even make him consider sharing baby duty with her. As soon as she stepped out she frowned. He was right there, sitting by the lake in her favorite spot. It was a sign, she would have to ask him now. "Er..Malfoy?" Kate called out, as she and Jacob reached him.
Draco's silver grey eyes gazed up at her and he smirked. His eyes flickered to the baby in her arms, he was smiling at Draco. "What's up McCallum?" This was said with no animosity, or smugness and that shook her.
"Professor Dumbledore asked me to give you this note," Kate said, holding it out to him. She looked so pretty with her silky curls and freckles. Draco shuddered inwardly again. Why was he thinking these things? Draco chalked it up to pure randyness at this point. Yes, that was about right, he hadn't had sex since the beginning of summer. He was just lusting. Nothing that required any really feelings.
"Um…alright then," Draco muttered, taking the note. He opened it and read it slowly. He scoffed loudly, the note read that he was now to use his free period to help Kathleen take care of her son. Why on earth would the old coot do that? Draco was sure he just wanted to torture him. "Oh for the love of Merlin's baggy y-fronts. Why must I help out? It's not as if your little Halfblood baby is mine!" Draco complained, rolling his eyes.
Kate shuffled her feet uncomfortably, she didn't look him in the eyes. What could she even say to the bloke? It wouldn't be fair to keep him in the dark about Jacob, no matter how much of an arse he was. "Um…well you see.." Kate muttered, in her sweet Scottish-Irish accent.
"See what? What are you trying to say, McCallum?" Draco asked, though an unusually warm feeling began to unfurl in the bottom of his belly.
"Well…oh sod it. Jacob is your baby. There! I said it! I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner," Kate confessed, angry tears splashing from her eyes. Draco couldn't believe what he was hearing, only…it made so much sense. Kathleen McCallum was not the type to ever cheat on someone. Unlike he himself. And now he was paying for it. How would his father react? He would probably be cast out of Malfoy Manor and be disowned. He'd be homeless and poor.
But, his mother raised him to take responsibility for his actions. And he would. Despite the overwhelming consequences. Draco Malfoy would be a better father to his son than his father had been to him. "Shit. Stop crying McCallum. I'm upset but, I can't really blame you for keeping it from me. We're not even of age yet. What are we going to do?" Draco replied, looking worried. The severity of the situation was just hitting him.
What could a couple of teenaged parents do to make sure their son would not grow up badly? Draco would have to tell his parents, and then he'd had to talk to Kate's parents. Hopefully her parents would not try to murder him for impregnating their daughter or her older brother Hagen who was a graduate of Hogwarts. "Um..I don't know…what do you want to do?" Kate replied, shyly. This was the Draco she had fallen for that night at the party. Not the snobby cowardly prat that she had come to know since their first year.
"Well I'll have to tell my parents. There's no way I'm ever letting some other bloke take care of my son. And I have to meet your parents, I think to apologize and because they're going to be in my life now," Draco replied with mock calmness. He felt horribly nauseous at the thought of not living up his youth in exchange for fatherhood but, he already cared for Jacob and he was in fact a Malfoy.
"Um..okay," she replied. And with that, a Gryffindor, a Slytherin, and a Baby headed back up to the castle where the unknown awaited thim.
A/N: Let me start by saying sorry about the looooooong overdue update. I am ashamed. Also I know usually in a fic like this the big reveal doesn't happen til the couple is in love causing a major problem between them. Well, not this one sorry. Also this chapter is a bit rushed and crap. Hope you like it anyway and stay tuned. The next update shall be sooner.
