Hey fellas! I hope you like the rewrite, I'm excited for what comes next! Enjoy!
"Alright thanks to the bug in Toothpick's office, we have a pretty clear idea of what's going on." Bentley explained.
Oh Bentley's little slide shows...I missed them so much.
"Toothpick plans on moving the stolen gold out of the mines with his special train. Unfortunately, his train is also being turbo-charged using OUR van. And need I remind everyone that we're stuck here if we fail to recover it?"
I started playing with my revolvers twirling them in my hand like a pro.
"Pay attention Bella! This is important!" Bentley scolded me.
"I'm listening Bentley! I tend to play with my guns whenever I'm nervous." I sighed.
Bentley just sighed and continued on with his little slide show.
"Well anyway! It's useless to go after the train in the mine! Toothpick will have stepped up security since our escape and the place will be crawling with guards! We're gonna have to hit that train while it's rolling, but first we're gonna have to catch it."
This oughta be good...
"We'll do that by diverting its route. After surveying the rail system I've determined that there are three rail switches..." He explained.
I looked at Bentley suspiciously considering he seemed slightly nervous.
"Well what's the problem?" I asked.
"Well Toothpick's given the keys to his three toughest henchmen. These guys keep the keys around them at all times. The good news is that during the Toothpick Appreciation Festival that there are a number of contests! And all three of them will be competing!"
I smirked as I loaded up my revolvers, feeling my trigger finger twitching with excitement.
"Well what are we waiting for? Let's kick their asses!" I hollered.
Sly chuckled and shook his head at my behavior.
"If you were entered in one of the contests, you'd blow them away. You're seriously competitive." Sly gave me a knowing look.
"Damn straight! It's been such a long time since I've been in a fight! The last time I fought someone, Murray had to pry me off of one of them! We took their asses down!" I laughed.
"What did I tell you about that sharp tongue, young lady?" Tennessee smirked.
"I'll do what I want, Kid!" I stuck my tongue out at him.
Bentley smiled at my childish behavior and then snapped his fingers to get our attention.
"Well I'm glad to hear you've been wanting a good fight, Bella. I've entered you and Murray in that brawling contest as a team."
"YES!" I blurted out.
Everyone froze and looked at me like I had grown an extra head.
"You need to calm down there, lil' lady. Shoot, you're more hyper than a chicken running around with its head cut off." Tennessee pointed out.
Tennessee grabbed my hand and made me sit back down with him. I yanked my hand away from him, my excitement diminishing a little bit.
"I'm not allowed to be excited now?" I grumbled and folded my arms.
"How much sugar did you have today Bella?" Bentley sighed and massaged his temples.
"I might have found a little shop in town with tons of sweets in it..." I blushed and averted my gaze.
Everyone shook their heads and sighed.
What the hell is everyone's problem?
"Aw whatever, you guys need to get those sticks out of your asses." I rolled my eyes. "Let me know when we're ready to go."
I stormed out of the safe house, needing some air, and time to reflect. I glanced around the small town, watching quietly as Toothpick's goons were setting up the obstacle courses and preparing for that stupid festival. Feeling anxious and jumpy, I got out my old binocucom and looked at the gold mine. They were just loading all that gold onto the train, along with the van. Why couldn't I just go right now and end Toothpick myself?
And I don't mean by killing him either. Death would be too merciful for him.
"I know that look. What are you up to, chica?"
I jumped in my spot and quickly hid my binocucom behind my back smiling sheepishly.
"H- -hey, Carmelita. I- -I uh...how long have you been standing there exactly?" I asked nervously.
"You can drop the act. You're thinking about going after Toothpick by yourself aren't you?" Carmelita raised an eyebrow.
I put my binocucom back in my utility belt and sighed deeply.
"Maybe..." I grew serious.
"You realize how crazy the idea is right? Sly, Bentley, and Murray would never let you go through with it...especially Tennesee. I think the guy's got some thing for you." Carmelita gave me a look of disbelief.
"Don't...don't even talk about Tennessee alright?" I snapped.
Carmelita seemed surprised at how serious I seemed to be. I was never usually so serious, I was like the comic relief here besides Murray. I'm normally really chill and 'super fly' as Dimitri would say, but right now?
I felt awful.
"I like Tennessee...more than I should. It could never work out though! I'm from the god damn future! It's completely screwed up, but I can't help it...I don't know what's gonna happen when I have to leave him, what we'll say to each other...I don't want to leave him..." My shoulders sagged and I felt defeated.
There's nothing I can do...I belong in the future...I could ruin everything by staying here...especially Sly's future.
Carmelita seemed completely shocked about my flat out confession. I didn't know what it was about Carmelita, but I felt like I could talk to her about anything, especially right now when I felt so vulnerable.
"It's crazy right? I fell in love with some guy that I barely know, and the fact that he's Sly's ancestor is just...it's fucked up." I spoke lowly
I grew angry and kicked the railing as hard as I could trying to take out my frustration.
"I guess we're both in love with a Cooper huh?" I glanced back at her.
Carmelita tried objecting, but I immediately cut her off.
"I'm still beyond pissed at Sly for what he did, how he left like that...but you're lucky you got to be with him instead of not knowing whether he was alive or...dead. I've got no right to talk about your little love life with Sly, but it's obvious that he's sorry. It's just hard turning away from what he's known all his life. He was born a thief, it wasn't going to be so easy to change that, you know? You were blind not to see that coming..."
Carmelita looked unsure of what to say for once in her life, in fact, she almost looked conflicted.
"Just make sure you treasure your moments together and just try forget about what happened. At least for now...the last time I held a grudge, I almost lost Sly. Don't be like me and make the same mistake." I mumbled softly.
I hopped on the railing ready to jump off and get away from the safehouse. Itching to do something about Toothpick by myself, but knowing it was a suicide mission.
"Bella, wait!" Carmelita finally spoke up. "Be careful, alright? Though I've judged you all so harshly, you're a good person at heart. I know you mean well and I'm sorry about before...I wish we could have met under different circumstances. You would have made a good cop."
My eyes widened in surprise and my frown transformed into a big goofy grin.
"Don't get all sentimental on me, Ms. Fox." I teased. "I'll be back in an hour or two, I just need to cool my head."
"If you're thinking about going after Toothpick, you've got another thing coming!" Carmelita glared at me as she began blushing.
Ah...I almost missed the yelling...
"Aw, you're actually concerned about my wellbeing?" I feigned surprise. "Don't worry, I'll be back in an hour tops. I won't be going after Toothpick...promise."
With that I left the safe house.
"Where have you been?! We've got a big day tomorrow and I need you at your best!" Bentley exploded. "We were all worried that Toothpick got to you or something!"
"It was for the best, I was having some problems I needed to deal with alright? Can't be all conflicted with inner turmoil during the big mission tomorrow, can I?" I replied.
I folded my arms and averted my gaze from Bentley. Bentley fell silent and grew concerned. After a minute of silence, he spoke up again.
"Is it about Tennessee?" He mumbled lowly.
I blushed and looked at Bentley in surprise.
"Oh cut the act, it's pretty obvious that you both like each other." He said. "But uh...it's not just that is it? How have you been dealing with your anxiety attacks? I've been worried..."
I was then frozen in complete shock.
Jeez, the turtle knows me better than I know myself.
"I've been...coping with it..." I spoke softly. "It's been getting better." I assured him.
"How bad was it?" Bentley asked knowingly.
"I've been having some nightmares, before I even got here that is...they all involved the Cooper Vault, when it was going down, I could never get to Sly in time and he always ended up...dying. But why I left, it had a little bit to do with preparing myself for tomorrow, so that I don't end up having an episode of some kind..." I confessed. "At first I was going to go after Toothpick when I was leaving, maybe end all of this by myself, but then after talking with Carmelita, I managed to calm down."
Bentley smiled as he wheeled himself over towards me. He then grabbed my hand in attempt to comfort me.
"It'll all be fine...we always manage to get through this stuff no matter what." Bentley told me.
"So, ready for tomorrow?" I smirked.
"As ready as I'll ever be." Bentley also smirked.
"Alright, listen up you fleabags! This is the annual Toothpick Brawl-a-thon! Ain't no rules, exceptin' you want a shot at the champ! You gotta fight your way through the ranks first!...well! Looks like we got ourselves a sucker- -er, I mean challenger! So let's get on with it! Fighting out on the pink corner... from parts unknown...weighing more than he should...The Murray!" The announcer fell silent for a few seconds as Murray did some 'manly' poses. "Wait a darn second! Looks like we got another contestant!"
I smirked and stepped into the boxing ring with Murray. I was disguised as a guy, I mean in this time, women basically had no rights. I just had to play it out and pretend I was a dude.
For now...
I pretty much had on Tennessee's spare clothes which looked a bit baggy on me and also had to wrap up my boobs, so I could look more flat chested. It was so awkward, but I was able to pull it off.
"Over in the pink corner with The Murray, we got a small little raccoon! HA!" I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. "Weighing way less than The Murray, here is Wild Iz!"
I scrunched up my face in disgust.
"Who the hell decided to name me Wild Iz? That's the worst damn name I've ever heard of." I grumbled.
"I think Bentley came up with it." Murray snickered. beside me.
I knew it...
"Looks like we're gonna have ourselves a double brawl!" The announcer laughed.
Dozens of henchmen stepped onto the boxing ring and grinned evilly at us, like they had the upper hand. I laughed internally when I knew they had no chance against Murray and I.
"GO!" The announcer rung the bell.
We both sprung into action and went after the huge bunch of henchmen. I was taken by surprise when one of them narrowly avoided my attack and managed to punch me in the face, hard.
"IZ!" Murray looked at me in worry.
I looked at the man in surprise as I held my jaw.
"Shit, I think I've been gettin' a little rusty. It's been awhile since I've been in a real brawl." I admitted.
I then cracked my knuckles and grinned at the man who was now looking at me in shock.
"Guess this is gonna be a good warm up." I spoke in a low tone.
It sure is weird pretending to be a guy...I don't know how Penelope faked being a guy for so long.
"Bring it on, bitch!" I taunted him.
The man grew angry and several of his little pals came running at me all at once. I jumped up as high as I could and hopped on all of their heads really fast while managing to kick them on their heads real hard. As I landed on my feet, some of them fell to the ground. The ones that were still standing grew angry and came at me again. I punched the one that got closest towards me and he went down.
BAM!
I observed the scene before me, noticing I only had three idiots to beat up. I kicked the second one in the knee and hopped over him as he fell to his knees.
POW!
I charged at the third guy at full speed to head butt him and have him drop to the floor.
BANG!
I turned around and grabbed the last guy by his head and kneed him real good in the face.
BAM!
I looked at the group of unconscious men and smiled in satisfaction as I folded my arms. I glanced over at Murray noticing that he had just finished dealing with his group of henchmen.
"That was fun." I chuckled.
"You're alright then?" Murray inspected my face.
"I'll be fine big guy- -"
"Sweet Sassafras! It looks like we got ourselves two contenders! And it seems like they've earned the right to fight against our champ! So without further ado, in this corner...weighing too much to mention, the horned heavyweight, the battlin' beefcake...puts the bull in bully! Your defendin' champion, WILD MAN!" The announcer said eagerly.
My jaw nearly dropped at the sight of the 'defending champion.'
This guy is freaking huge. O-O
"Uhhh...Murray? Not that I'm doubting your skills here, but do you think we'll be able to beat this guy?" I whispered to him.
"No, Izzy, I'm gonna beat this guy. He's all mine." Murray pounded his fists together.
"What?! Are you nuts?! There is no way, I'm letting you fight that ginormous asshole alone!" I objected.
"Well there's no way in hell that I'm letting you get involved with this one. He's way too big for you to handle. This is a job for, THE MURRAY!" He told me.
"I'm slightly hurt here." I pouted.
"I'm not saying you're not a great fighter, but I just don't want you getting hurt. You're like my littler sister." Murray smiled.
AAAAAAWWWW! MURRAY!
"Awww! You're so sweet!" I then blushed and got my 'man voice' back. "Now go get 'em tough guy! I'll be waiting here for the new champion!" I smirked.
"No foe will ever be able to defeat, THE MURRAY!" Murray cracked his knuckles and ran at his opponent.
I watched in awe as Murray ran at the huge guy with no sign of fear at all. They we going at each other and it was about the coolest fight I had ever witnessed. There was no doubt in my mind that Murray could beat this loser. But half way into the fight, I grew worried as more henchmen stepped onto the boxing ring, trying to sway Murray and make him lose. I cracked my back and stretched before running into action to help Murray out.
"I got the little guys! You get the big one!" I yelled at him.
"You got it!" Murray smirked and continued fighting the champ.
I ran at the coyotes and took down as many as I could. I used every trick I ever learned from Murray himself, and I wasn't sure if it would be enough. I got hit a couple of times, since these guys were a lot tougher than the last bunch, but I managed to pull through and finish them all off as Murray successfully defeated the champion. I smiled as Murray grabbed the key from the champ.
Our mission was done here.
The time had come, we were going to get the van back, get back Tennessee's gold, and use the time machine to stop that Paradox guy. Which meant, that I would never see Tennessee after today. I was beyond depressed, but I knew I had to put these feelings aside and help the gang out if we were ever going to leave the Wild West. We were currently moving inside the train after making our way in. Our job is to help unload the gold in the train and put it in the van. Tennessee grabbed my hand again and yanked me back towards him.
"Whoa there!" Tennessee panicked.
"AH!" I yelped.
I almost stepped onto a laser grid without even realizing it, which would have fried me up.
"You sure seem distracted." Tennessee joked. "You could have become Toothpick's dinner. I don't know how he'd feel about fried raccoon though..."
"Oh jeez...thanks for that."
I held my face in my hands as I sat down to catch a breath.
"You alright?" Tennessee knelt down beside me and held my face in his hands. "Where'd you get that bruise on your cheek anyway?" He gently ran his fingers over my bruise.
"I was in that brawl match with Murray. One of them caught me by surprise is all." I replied.
Tennessee seemed shocked before I saw a flash of anger in his eyes.
"What?! Bentley let you go an' fight with Murray?! What in tarnation was he thinkin'?!"
I glared at Tennessee and pushed him away from me, standing up and turning away from him.
"I'm not some fragile doll, Kid! I've had worse injuries!" I snapped.
"Whoa! Whoa! That's not what I meant! I know you can handle yourself! I've seen that in action! I just worry about you is all! I don't want ya'll gettin' hurt or nothin'..." Tennessee assured me.
I softened up and began walking away from Tennessee.
"Sorry...let's uh...get going alright?"
"Miss Bella, I- -"
"Bentley's counting on us...we should hurry up and finish this." I interrupted.
Before I could go Tennessee grabbed my hand again.
"I...I just wanted to tell you that I enjoy your company. It's gonna be a little boring without yah here." Tennessee smiled sadly.
Oh god...he's making it hard to leave this era...
I tried ignoring my thoughts by looking around the area. Thankfully tere were no guards, but then there were the lasers we had to get through.
And there were a lot of them...
"This seems easy." I scoffed.
"Easy? How do yah reckon that?" Tennessee gave me a skeptical look.
"There are no guards whatsoever, all we have to do is get by the lasers and then we're golden, Ponyboy." I joked.
Tennessee looked confused.
"Ponyboy?" He raised an eyebrow.
"It's a reference to a very popular book in the 1980's. Don't worry about it." I smiled at him.
Tennessee cracked his knuckles much similar to how I do and smirked at the challenge in front of us.
That's weird...that's exactly how I crack my knuckles...maybe it's a raccoon thing?
"Well let's get this show on the road, lil' lady." Tennessee winked at me. "Think you can keep up?"
I made a dash for it and took a giant leap for a safe spot above the lasers hovering over the ground. It was on some couch cushion. I turned around and grinned smugly at Tennessee.
"I don't know...the real question is if you can keep up?"
I folded my arms and smiled in satisfaction at the flustered looking raccoon behind me. The whole thing began to turn into a race and a game of tag at the same time. I almost tripped several times and got hit by lasers on the way, but we both managed to stay in one piece. After five minutes of running, jumping, and shooting we had one last obstacle. When we made it to the gold we had to figure out a way to get through the locks on the train door.
"Allow me." Tennessee said.
Tennessee gently led me to the side and used his crack-shot technique. In seconds, the door flew open and outside driving next to the train was the van. Tennessee pulled me towards him in a hurry as something similar to a harpoon shot out of the van and got attached to the huge trunk full of gold. In seconds, the gold was pulled into the van and Murray sped up ahead.
"We'll grab the rest after we stop the train, Tennessee!" Bentley yelled from the van.
This is really it huh?
I was about to head on to the next cart of the train, but I'm being turned around and felt something soft on my lips.
Tennessee is kissing me! Stop it! You're making it harder to leave!
I was about to push Tennessee from me until he pulled away himself, leaving me to blush.
"...just one more for the road." Tennessee winked at me. "You were bein' a tease back there."
A tease? Well...probably...I didn't realize though... I should pay more attention with my behavior...
"Uhhh...we should go." I squeaked.
I covered my mouth as my face grew more red in embarrassment.
God I sound like an idiot right now.
"Wait...I really need to tell yah something...and this is important." He then grew serious.
I patiently waited as Tennessee seemed conflicted. It was as if he was going to tell me a secret, but wasn't sure if he should.
"I like yah...more than I should." He mumbled softly.
It was like I was turned to stone by Medusa. I was practically speechless. He pretty much felt the same way that I did about him.
Come on, Bella! Say it! I LIKE YOU TOO! How hard is it to say four damn words?!
"Well...I like you too. More than I should." I mimicked him. "But...won't I mess up time and space if I stay with you? Surely there's someone else that you love. Otherwise, Sly wouldn't be here exactly..."
"I really feel like that someone I love is you. There's something about yah that makes me want to..." Tennessee trailed off.
I stepped closer, gazing into his eyes as I reached for his hand.
"Want to?" I prompted.
"Make yah mine forever..." He finished.
I...maybe I should stay with Tennessee. Maybe...maybe we were meant to be...
I practically melted at Tennessee's confession, knowing how honest and sincere he was about it.
"What I'm really tryin' to say is...I want yah to stay here...with me." Tennessee told me.
Should I? I mean we've only technically known each other for a few days...but I think I might be in love...
"I'll think about it and give you an answer when we stop the train alright? Bentley's probably ticked that we're not moving right now." I smiled at him.
Tennessee returned the smile, squeezing my hand gently before we ran off together. With that being said and done, we moved on.
"Why don't you bring your little runt self down here and take your whoopin' like a man, sheriff!" Tennessee yelled at Toothpick.
Toothpick whirled around and aimed his gun right at him.
"Blast you, Tennessee Kid Cooper! I'ma gonna lock you up in the deepest, darkest hole and throw away the key!" He looked murderous.
I got out my revolvers and aimed them at Toothpick.
"Not if I have anything to say about it, pipsqueak." I glared at Toothpick.
"Give it up, Toothpick! The fat lady has sung and you are done!" Tennessee smirked and wrapped an arm around my waist. "Don't make my girl hurt you!"
His girl? Well well...I see how it is...
"Oh really? Am I done?" Toothpick then grinned.
I felt something hard smack me from behind and kick me until I was at the edge of the platform on the train. I picked my head up and saw Paradox's goons holding back Tennessee as Toothpick took his cane/gun away.
"My gun! NO!" Tennessee shouted.
"HAHA! Thanks, Kid! Le Paradox sends his regards!" With that Toothpick fled the scene.
Shit! Was this whole thing a trap?! Why did he want Tennessee's gun?!
I shook my head as my vision focused again and immediately shot at the henchmen in front of us. They both went down in seconds. I wobbled over to Tennessee, my vision still going in and out of focus.
"Are you alright?!" I asked.
I looked at Tennessee in worry while holding my aching head. Sly jumped down and ran towards us before Tennessee could give me an answer.
"Don't worry guys! I got this!" Sly ran after Toothpick.
"SLY! KICK HIS ASS FOR ME!" I hollered at him.
"CAN DO!" He replied.
I checked Kid over to see if he had any injuries, but he seemed fine. No blood at least.
"You're alright?" I asked again.
Tennessee slowly stood up and just stared up ahead at the path where Sly and Toothpick had gone, looking torn about going to help Sly.
"I hope he gets it back...that gun was given to me by my pa." Kid mumbled.
I've never seen him look so heartbroken.
I grabbed Tennessee's hand, giving it a gentle squeeze.
"This is Sly we're talkin' about...he's a Cooper remember?" I smiled sadly.
Like it? I enjoyed writing this chapter! It was fun! One more shout out to Aeronniell for inspiring me again! I'm glad you got through to me! Otherwise, I would be stuck doing homework all the time! I need some free time and stuff... XD Anyway, let me know what you think! And be nice please!
