"What's wrong with me?" She cries when he finally finds her, curled into a ball in the corner of her room.

It's well after midnight and he came as soon as he heard her, despite the look from Rogue to just leave it, leave her. He came and he sits next to her on the floor where she has her hands over her ears, rocking back and forth, and he's scared of how much she's shaking.

"Nothing," he says, and it's a lie because he knows, knows there are horrors plaguing her mind, even if he's not privileged to the specifics: he's used to being kept in the dark, and he does his best to pretend he's not. Something is wrong and he's been told they can help, they are going to help, and he can't but he tries, so he says, "You're okay, Kitty. You're safe, and everything is okay."

She looks at him broken, like she wants to believe him, and he can't face the pain in her eyes and the tears on her cheeks so he holds her close and he doesn't know what else to do.
