An: Its short but it is a start on a comeback at least.
Chapter 3
It seemed like an eternity before a now bloody and beaten Inuyasha had been loaded into a police car. They had been waiting in the hospital for news on Kagome for hours now. She had been rushed straight into emergency surgery as soon as the ambulance came screaming into the hospital. The kids had curled themselves into Sesshomaru and cried themselves to sleep long ago while Sango and Kagome's mother sat anxiously next to them.
"Kagome's mother reached over to pat Sesshomaru's leg. "Thank you so much for being there for my daughter and her children. If you hadn't been there I don't want to think about what would have happened."
"Don't thank me Mrs. Higurashi I promised to be there to help and look what happened I failed your family in the worst way." Sesshomaru growled.
"No you didn't fail if you hadn't been there the children would have walked into that and I wouldn't have my daughter or my grandchildren. At least Kagome has a chance now, and her children are safe. Inuyasha is in jail where he should be, that is all thanks to you."
Sesshomaru didn't answer just holding the children closer. He was trying to figure out what drew him to this woman and her children so quickly. From the moment he had met Rin he had formed an attachment to her and had done the same with Kagome and Shippo. It didn't make sense to him at all normally he would avoid these kind of complications in his life at all costs but all he wanted to do was keep this little family safe and happy.
Finally the doctor came out and waved Mrs. Higurashi over to quietly talk to her mindful of the sleeping children. "I am not going to lie Mrs. Higurashi we are not out of the woods yet we fought hard to save her life but she is very seriously injured. Her she has 7 broken ribs one of which detached and punctured her lung. Her little body is just in terrible shape and weak. It is between her and god now." He bowed respectfully and left as Mrs. Higurashi collapsed to her knees sobbing quietly.
Sesshomaru went to shift the children to Sango to go and help her but Sango stopped him. "I will go we want to keep the children as settled as we can until we know more." He just nodded quietly and watched as she went over to hold the woman as they talked quietly and cried together.
Once Kagome was settled into a private room he had Sango take Mrs. Higurashi and the children home with the promise that he would stay. They had a plan to come in the morning so that he could take the kids and go to school. He pulled a chair up close to the bed gingerly taking her hand and leaning close. "I know that you are stronger than this. I have seen it in you even in as little time as I have known you. Take your time to get better, but come back to us."
