The Walking dead journey/volume/season episode 1 the journey begins
2 months into apocalypse fall/autumn
Lee and Rick had just arrived in Macon and ditched their bikes. The city seemed to different to Rick. Normally he would see people going about their day. Some people would be jogging, other would be running errands, others would be waiting for their kids to come home from school. Those same kids would eventually ride their bikes down the street just as Lee and he had just done. The grass was the same as it was at the hospital, long and yellow.
Lee was behind Rick, he struggled to keep up with the mans brisk pace. He could tell Rick was doing his best not to break into a run, as if running would be admitting to himself that something might be wrong. Suddenly, Lee heard a thud. It wasn't very loud, but since the street was silenter than any street had any right to be, Lee just barely managed to hear it.
He stopped dead in his tracks, he tried listen for another sound. It took Rick a second to notice that Lee had stopped. "What is it?" He asked.
"I heard something." Lee replied.
"It was probably just the wind." Rick said anxiously. "We need to keep moving."
"I should check it out."
Rick sighed "I have to get to my house Lee."
"I'll come find you after I check it out." Lee said. He didn't want to split up, but he had to check it out.
Lee went to the backyard of the house where he thought the noise. The house wasn't anything special, a simple house with a patio and screen door, there was a tree house above him, below it there was a hammer on the ground This must be what made the noise he thought. He turned up at the tree house "HEY ANYBODY UP THERE?!" No answer.
For a second Lee thought of leaving but fought against the urge. Maybe there was someone here. He walked up to the patio and pounded on the screen door "Hello anybody in there? Did you drop this hammer? When no answer came he knew he had to go in. "I'm coming in okay. Don't shoot, I'm not an intruder. Or one of them." He said as he came in.
Lee was met with a scene as he came in. The house was a complete mess, a bookcase was knocked down on the couch and the TV was broken. A coloring book laid on the counter, a colored in unicorn on on the page. A bowl of fake fruit sat in the table, even if they were real, Lee wouldn't dare touch them as the pieces were covered in dust.
"These people might need more helpful than I do." Lee said as he walked around the house. In the kitchen there was a pool of blood. Lee made sure to scoot past it as he went towards the kitchen. In one of the drawers there was a walkie talkie, which Lee took and put it in his pocket. Suddenly there was a beep which made Lee jump. "Where's that coming from?" He wondered to himself.
He eventually found the source to be an answering machine. "You have three new messages." It said. Lee pressed play.
"Hey Sandra." A female voice said "This is Diana. We're still in Savannah. Ed had a little "incident" with some crazy guy near the hotel, so we had to get him back to the ER and have it checked out. Anyway, he's not feeling well enough to drive back tonight, so we're staying an extra day. Thanks so much for looking after Clementine, and I promise we'll be back in time before your spring break!" She said the last part with a small a chuckle
The second message started.
"Oh my god, finally!" It was the same woman as before, only now she sounded panicked. I don't know if you tried to reach us; all the calls are getting dropped. They're not letting us leave and aren't telling us anything about Macon. Please, just leave the city and take Clementine with you back to Marietta. I've got to get back to the hospital. Please let me know that you're safe"
The final message started."Clementine? Baby?" This time the woman was crying. "If you can hear this, call the police. That's 9-1-1. We love you...we love you...we love y-" The message cut off. Next to the answering machine was a picture of with a man and a woman, between them was a little girl. Lee was almost crying as he held the picture.
"Daddy?" Lee heard come from the walkie talkie. He quickly took it out of his pocket and put it to his mouth.
"Hello?" Lee said into the walkie.
"You're not my daddy." the girl sounded disappointed.
"No I'm not." Lee said as he walked into the living room. "What's your name?" He asked changing the subject.
"I'm Clementine. This is my house." The same girl the woman was talking about. Lee thought.
"How old are you?" He asked as he went back in the kitchen, once again scooting around the blood.
"Eight."
Lee was shocked. "And you're all alone?" He asked.
"Yes. I don't know where anybody is. How old are you?" She asked.
"I'm thirty-seven."
"Okay." Clementine said, as if she didn't know how to respond to that.
"Where are your parents?" Lee asked, even through he was pretty sure he knew.
"They took a trip and left me with Sandra. They're in Savannah, I think. Where the boats are."
"Are you safe?" Lee asked as he looked out the window.
"I'm outside in my tree house. They can't get in."
"That's smart." Lee said, and he meant it.
"Can you see me?" she said as she stuck her head out and waved at him, Lee waved back. Suddenly Clementine screamed, Lee turned around there was one of those things.
Lee grabbed it by it's wrist and pushed it back. He ran towards the door but he slipped in the blood and hit his head on the counter. His vision became blurry and by the time it stopped the creature was already on top of him luckily he was able to kick it away. He got up and ran towards the door again, but it grabbed his foot which made him fall down again. It got on top of him, and was trying to sink its teeth into his neck. The door opened reveling Clementine, who was holding the hammer that fell on the ground earlier.
"Here." She said, trembling. Lee didn't want to take another life but had no choice. He took the hammer stuck the sharp end of it in the neck of the monster. Dark blood dripped but the monster kept going.
"What the?" Lee said confused. Suddenly a shot rang out and the monster fell on top of him. He pushed it off and looked to see a black man standing in the doorway. A pistol with a smoking barrel in his hand.
Lee pushed the monster off and looked at the man. "Thanks." Lee panted.
"Why did you do that?" The man asked.
"What?" Lee was confused. "Do what?"
"Stab it in the neck. Don't you know you need to go for the head?."
"Well no. I was in a coma when this all began, I just woke up today." Lee explained.
"Really?!" Lee nodded. "Well then I have a lot to teach you. Come with me, I can take you and your daughter to where I'm staying."
"She's not my daughter." Lee corrected him "I found her here."
The man looked shocked. His gazed to Clementine "You've been all by yourself through this?"
"Yes." She nodded. The man was speechless. He seemed to be in disbelief.
Lee decided to break the ice. "I'm Lee, and this is Clementine. What's your name?" Lee asked the man.
"Morgan Jones." The man answered.
"No." Rick said as he saw his house. It was a disaster, one of the windows were broken, and the door was caved in. He ran inside, the TV was gone and the roof looked like it was about to fall any moment. But Rick didn't care about any of that, he had to find them. "LORI! CARL!" He looked in the living room, then ran to kitchen. He found himself upstairs, first he looked in his son's bedroom, then the one he shared with his wife. The house was empty.
His legs seemed to give out, he was crying on the floor screaming "LORI!...CARL!" No, this can't be real. He slapped himself. "Wake up!" He yelled. He slapped himself again, nothing. He then wandered outside and fell on the grass he laid there for a little while. Then he heard a gunshot, he looked where it came from. Through his tears he saw a figure stumbling towards him. "Lee?"
Then there was a ringing in his head. He could feel blood run down his nose. He looked up to see Carl standing above him, holding a shovel. Wait, it wasn't Carl, this boy had dark skin and even darker hair.
"Daddy! Dad!" The boy called. Morgan, Lee and Clementine came around the corner and Morgan shot the creature that Rick thought was Lee. They went over to the boy.
"He was going to try and eat us dad. But I got the sumbitch. I'm gonna smack him dead."
"No!" Lee called. "He's my friend."
"Duane this man's alive." Morgan told his son.
"Oh." Duane said
Lee was confused "What do you mean? Of course he's alive, he was moving right?"
"You have a lot to learn." Morgan said "But first, grab his feet, help me get him inside."
"Carl" Rick mumbled.
