Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto, just the idea for this story.

Well, here we are once again, we've come such a long way. And things were headed to quite the crossroads. Two ill-fated lovers caught between a baby and a fiancée. I know we left things at quite the cliffhanger, and it's been so long, but let's go back. Back in time to set up the plot, very small details like his cannot be overlooked.

You already know how the two met, that day at the hospital so long ago. Two young girls were set on a path that would change their lives forever. You can imagine a minute the paths their lives would have taken had they not been at that particular spot in that particular moment in time.

As it turns out though Ino's father also worked at the hospital, and not just worked there he was the Chief of Medicine. So maybe it wasn't chance that Ino was also there that same day, perhaps it was destiny simply telling these two people that they were simply meant to be.

Life, however, could never be as simple as to let two people fall in love and live happily ever after. That is of course what the movies paint, they paint a picture of two people simply meeting and spending the rest of their lives together. However, for Ino and Sakura it was not made to be so easy. There parents had such high hopes for them, such dreams that they would be successful, but not so successful that they would scare off their potential suitors. It was a time in which a woman was to be the perfect housewife and support her husband in anyway they could.

When the blonde haired, blue eyed girl laid her eyes on the crying pink haired, green eyed girl it was all over. From that point on a friendship was formed a friendship to last through all the ages. It was all the Yamanaka family would hear from the little Ino. It would go on and on that they realized having raised such a strong and independent girl that they would not be able to control this love blossoming, though try as they did.

Year after year, and guy after guy, man after man, no matter the choice the first date always ended the same. No boy or man would ever compare to Sakura, and thus they realized they had lost.

Sakura was a particularly shy girl, a girl who was not very brave or outspoken so when her parents set her up on dates she accepted and continued to go out with these boys and men. She would however always notice a look in Ino's eyes, and though she couldn't place it the next day she would always call it off with whomever she was dating.

Now you're probably wondering how did these two become secret lovers? Well it's a strange tale really, a tale that happened in a particular moment in time that changed everything. And really it simply came down to chance.

It has been fifteen years since that first fateful encounter. Fifteen years of growing friendship and unspoken feelings. It was at this point in time that they were both in college, both getting their medical degrees. Sakura studying to be a doctor and Ino studying to be a pediatrician.

By luck, or call it chance, or maybe even destiny they got accepted into the same college. And at all odds they were roommates, now I probably don't need to tell you the chances of this happening because I'm sure you can guess. Whatever mystery in the universe brought them together has decided to keep them together for fifteen long years and it's nothing short of incalculable.

During this time Sakura was dating a loathsome man, his name was Sasuke Uchia, and he was the worse kind of snake, at least in Ino's eyes. He didn't care for Sakura, he painfully didn't care for Sakura. Anyone could see it, even her parents could see it, but it didn't matter to them because he would finally give the Haruno family standing and that's all that mattered.

To make matters worse no matter how bad she was treated or ignored Sakura was infatuated. It infuriated Ino to no end! He could be the worst jerk but simply say one sweet thing when he noticed that same infatuation waning.

One night Ino could no longer stand it. They were all in their dorm room watching tv, Sakura throwing herself over Sasuke and Sasuke completely ignoring her. It was at that moment that Ino had enough and without another word she stood up, marched to the door and threw it open with a slam and stormed out. She needed a drink and be damned of the consequences.

It wasn't until 1 or maybe 2 am that Ino returned to the dorm. Very happy in her drunken state, very happy to have been able to forget about Sakura for an evening. When she came back to the dorm was when everything changed or in particular when she came back to Sasuke's dorm by mistake.

Though it should be noted that though Ino has never admitted it to Sakura she very deliberately when to Sasuke's dorm. The liquid courage in her system was what she finally needed to lay into this guy.

It was however that when she wretched the door open to his dorm and found Sasuke on top of another girl. Who was she? Well at that moment it didn't matter to Ino, who was suddenly overcome with immense strength as she yanked Sasuke off the girl and started punching him in the face with all her might.

The severe beating could be heard throughout the halls. It was by such luck that a certain pinkette peeked her head through her door and noticed the noise was coming from Sasuke's dorm. Quickly she made her way over and threw open the door, the sight in front of her made her gasp and step back.

There was Sasuke laying bloodied on the floor, Ino stood over him holding him by the collar and punching the living daylight out of him. And on the bed laid a girl baring it all to the world because she was too shocked to do anything else.

Finally Ino looked up and noticed Sakura for the first time and with great effort and one last punch she threw Sasuke's head to the ground. "And don't you ever come near her again!" Breathing heavily she stood up on shaky legs and adding insult to injury she spit on his face. She was walked over and grabbed Sakura's wrist and dragged her back to their dorm.

Once inside their knees buckled and they fell into each other, both sobbing into the others shoulder. Sakura was sobbing about losing a loved one, and Ino was sobbing about what she had done. Though later she would admit that she was quite proud of herself.

It was at the point that the universe started to align itself again, at that point that they noticed a change in their relationship. As Ino gently held Sakura that night as she slowly rocked her back and forth telling her everything would be okay. And it was at the first break of light coming through the slits of the curtain that Sakura truly looked at Ino for the first time and the girls shared their first kiss bathed in the morning glow of first light, bathed in the first of many things.

It would turn out to be a bittersweet kiss in the end, the end of all things as it has come to be called. It wasn't long after that that Sakura's parents set her up with a new suitor. And still not having the courage Ino had Sakura went along with it.

His name was Naruto and he was an idiot, an unobservant idiot according to Ino, but he was nice at least. Even though Ino and Sakura continued their affair and had many first it was still bittersweet. They were a dark secret tucked away in the corner of their hearts. It seems as if Sakura's parents would never give up and Sakura would never have the courage to stand up to them. This was their fate, the fate of two lovers forced to hide themselves from the world.

Though it would not stay like this for long, something was always bound to break. On that one Friday, the days that were suppose to be the best. The days that were suppose to be spent happily with Sakura suddenly turned ugly. And on this one Friday of all such days the doorbell rang, and now the universe in all of its cruel wisdom had thrust the ball in Ino's court, and now she had a decision. To open the door, or to not open the door?
