Chapter 3: Jealousy
Life would have gone on with him trying to make some form of connection with her that was until they had a first meeting in Reikai, where they were called in for a meeting. It was an awkward introduction but the realization was in their eyes and she was the one to break out in a light laughter that infected him as well. However, the rest of his team they were rather puzzled and Yusuke was the first few brash and loud ones that had demanded for an answer despite of the nice atmosphere that was going on between them.
Their first mission together was considerably simple and straightforward, which made him thought of why Koenma would like to employ Kagome's help. Then it clicked in him, that he wanted to have hold of her through this mission for future jobs, or a contract with him like how they all seem to be. And knowing her, she was just too nice of a person to reject or even to say no to him. Anything to help reign the balance and to save more lives, she would place others before her more than often, but never really thinking much for herself. And her innocence there was such purity to it that he was so tempted on many occasions to try and taint her so that she will blossom into a flourishing flower that she truly is.
And after their first mission, he was right in Koenma's real intention in roping Kagome into their team as permanently as he could. She was given time to think about it, however if possible and if he could help it, he would rather she never be involved at all. However after this first mission involving Kagome, it did help in breaking the ice a little in school with them. They were not often seen around the university's campus, however they did interact more than they would usually in the past before this. Yet it was still not onto how much of an interaction that he had wished for.
He was almost fine with how little she has to say, even after they got acquainted in Koenma's office, however she was still rather close off despite of what common knowledge that they know about her. She hardly let loose either from what he knows, and always so distant from the rest of her peers even those that are supposedly closer to her. Every time that Kurama get too close to her, she would distance herself away from him, not with excuses but a particular way of avoiding him yet not seemingly to. She is a confusing person, always so quiet, until one day he caught her with another copper auburn haired male with broad shoulders who made her smile and talk so much more intimately and longer than he had ever seen her since noticing her.
Their interaction made him jealous, but there was something almost odd about her behavior, especially the way that she would sometimes look around her as though she noticed that she was being watched or something. Though that was not all but the male would smile at her sincerely whispering something to her that even he could not hear. It was heartbreaking for him, yet it was like he was a glutton for punishment, wanting to just watch her and wished to be in the position of where the male is. She is least to say beyond intriguing, and more so he could feel their compatibility matching well. It was a gut feeling, yet this time it did not help him much in attaining the interest of the woman in question. She is no girl as compared to the many that he knows, a fine woman, a lady in his view.
It was a monthly thing he realized, the way that they would both meet somewhere near the school, to dine and talk over things. And even with time, the odd behavior in which he noticed in her, never left her even when he was not there. He was becoming more jealous with how much more he was finding out about her, and the male especially, and there were many things in which his mind would end up imagining and each time it would be a lot more different, more adventurous and wildly fun one would say. It was not fun in the least to say, but he was clear when jealousy had grabbed hold of him, and choking him with it that he nearly saw red at times when he was thinking too much about it.
Jealousy and Love are both cruel mistresses and seem to have conspire with Fate to letting him know that there was someone just perfect for him out there, but not within his reach.
