Chapter 3: Meeting a Cat
Hey everyone I'm back. Sorry about the wait, but I was really into the Christmas mood with my other stories and was updating all of them. I'm glad to see so many of you like my story. Please Review and Enjoy.
It had been a month since Ace and Anya had become Spider-Man and Spider-Girl and Jump City was starting to recognize the two new heroes.
Late at night some burglars were breaking into the Jewelry store setting of the alarm. "Come on let's hurry." The leader said as they grabbed many of the diamonds and cash as they could.
"You know diamonds are a good way to a girl's heart, but I don't think any girl would want one from you guys?" A voice said surprising them.
Turning around they saw Spider-Man and Spider-Girl hanging upside down.
"What do you think?" Spider-Man asks looking at Spider-Girl.
"I wouldn't be caught dead wearing anything they would give me." Spider-Girl said.
"Well we'll be happy to leave you dead anyway." The criminal leader said as they pulled out their guns until Spider-Man and Spider-Girl shot webs at them yanking the guns out of their hands.
"Don't you know how dangerous these things are?" Spider-Man said as Spider-Girl rushed towards them.
One swings a bat at her but Spider-Girl ducks under it and knees him in the gut.
"Don't you know it's rude to hurt a girl?" She smirks when the leader comes up behind her causing her to gasp.
He was about to punch her when Spider-Man shoots a web at Spider-Girl pulling her into his arms.
"I gotcha." Spider-Man said causing her to smile.
Both of them turn to face the leader thug and as he tried to make a run for it, they both fired their webs tying him up.
Struggling to break free Spider-Man and Spider-Girl deliver to punches to the face knocking him out.
By the time the cops show up all the criminals were hanging upside down by the webs.
Back at Ace's house he and Anya took off their masks and sit down on his bed.
"Another day another crime stopped by the spiders." Anya smirks.
"We're getting better at this." Ace smiles.
"Speak for yourself that guy would've nailed me right in the face if it wasn't for you." Anya said.
"Well it's only been a month since you two got your powers." Looking down the hall they saw Stan walking in. "So what was it this time?" Stan asks.
"Jewelry store." Ace said.
"Not bad, but while you two were out on patrol did a thought ever occur to you about your homework?" Stan asks causing both to panic.
"Oh no we forgot!" Both of them gasp as they rushed to finish it before tomorrow.
The next day at Horizon High Ace and Anya had tired expressions on their faces as they presented their assignments to Max.
"Hmm." Max said as he examined their work. "Ace your formula is correct, but you forgot to convert in this step and Anya this one is only half finished."
"Sorry sir." Both of them frown as the bell rings.
"Alright class be sure to read that chapter on Thermodynamics. Uh Ace, Anya can I have a word with you two?"
Both look at each other uncomfortably as they walked back to his desk.
"What's going on? You two seem exhausted every time you show up for class." Max asks concerned.
"It's nothing, I just haven't been getting much sleep." Anya said.
"Yeah and my Uncle Stan has been asking for my feedback on his latest story." Ace said.
"Look I know this school is challenging but you two have to make sure your studies come first. Rise to the challenges and face them." Max encourages.
Walking out of his room both let out a sigh.
"This stinks. How do you balance being heroes with going to school?" Anya asks.
"I don't know, but if we don't figure something out soon, we're gonna flunk all our classes." Ace said as they entered the computer room.
"What if we tried alternating our patrols? One goes out while the other stays behind and works on our homework, so they can help the other when they come back." Anya suggests.
"Wait you want to stop the Spider duo?" Ace asks not liking the idea.
"Just temporarily." Anya said causing him to sigh.
"Alright fine, but who's gonna study and who's gonna patrol?" Ace asks as they sit down.
Anya pauses to think and pulls out a coin. "Heads I go, Tails you go." She said.
"Sounds fair." Ace said as Anya flips the coin into the air.
That night Spider-Man was on top a rooftop looking out at Jump City
"Man it stinks being up here without Anya watching my back…not to mention I miss checking her out in her suit." Spider-Man chuckles before he shot a web out and swung from building to building.
At Anya's house she was working on their homework when she got a knock at the door. "Who is it?" She asks as the door opens to reveal Stan Lee. "Oh hey Stan what's up?"
"You left your suit at my place last night." Stan said handing her a bag. "You better keep a close eye on it."
"Thanks, I will." Anya said putting it in her closet.
"So, Ace told me he was going solo tonight." Stan said sitting down.
"Yeah we needed to do this to keep up with our studies." Anya said sitting down at her desk.
"Shame I always thought you two made a great pair." Stan said.
"We're still a team, we're just taking a break." Anya said.
"I wasn't talking about your hero business." Stan smirks causing Anya to blush.
"Uh uh well." Anya stutters causing Stan to chuckle.
'She's acting just like Ace did when I asked him, these two kids were made for each other.' Stan thought. "Anya you shouldn't be so quick to stop the hero business because things are tough."
"But it's so hard." Anya said.
"Most things are, but I've known you and Ace since the day I took him in, you two have never turned down a challenge. What makes a true hero is finding the strength to overcome any obstacle be it from their normal lives or their other lives." Stan said.
"How is it that you always know the right things to say?" Anya asks.
"It's a gift." Stan shrugs.
Meanwhile at the Jump City Museum a shadowy figure entered the museum and was making its way through the exhibits. The figure was a female teenager with long white hair, green eyes, a black mask and suit with white fur on her arms and legs. (Google Felicia Hardy Earth- 26496)
Taking out a can of hair spray she sprays the hallway to reveal hidden security lasers.
"They call this a security system? I've seen schools with better security." She smirks as she jumps from wall to wall avoiding the lasers with ease arriving at the exhibit Relics of the Jungle.
"There it is." She said looking at a green amulet in the shape of a tiger's head. "The White Tiger Amulet." Growling claws from her gloves she cuts a circular hole in the glass and pulls it out.
"And here I thought the best cat burglar was from Gotham." Looking up she saw Spider-Man hanging from the ceiling.
"Who are you supposed to be? The next Batman?" She scoffs.
"They call me Spider-Man cat lady." He said.
"Well they call me Black Cat." She said tying the amulet to her belt.
"What is it about woman and jewelry that makes them do such crazy things?" Spider-Man asks swinging at her only for Black Cat to jump out of the way with ease.
"Buy me one sometime and I might show you." Black Cat said leaping at him, but Spider-Man shoots a web swinging out of the way.
"Sorry don't have the money for one." Spider-Man said shooting webs at her tying up her arms.
As Black Cat struggles to break free Spider-Man swings in and kicks her in the gut knocking her to the ground. Recovering Black Cat looks at Spidey with interest.
"Not bad hot stuff." She said standing up.
"Now why don't you be a good kitty and put that thing back." Spider-Man said.
"Yeah I don't see that happening!" Black Cat said as the amulet glowed bright.
"What the?" Spider-Man said as Black Cat's agility increased to the point they were cat-like. 'How is she moving like that?' He thought as Black Cat jumped to the roof windows.
"Later Spidey." She waves.
Growling Spider-Man shoots a web and chases after her to see Black Cat racing across the rooftops.
Jumping across a roof Black Cat turns around to see Spider-Man jumping from roof to roof after her.
"This guy doesn't give up…I like him. Let's see what this amulet can do." Black Cat said as she jumped to a large apartment rooftop and turns to see Spider-Man land across from her.
"You're fast kitty." Spider-Man said.
"Tell me Spidey how long have you been a hero?" Black Cat asks.
"Uh about a month." Spider-Man shrugs causing her to smirk.
"I was taken in and trained by Catwoman herself for years and one thing she always taught me is how to deal with the law." Black Cat said as her claws extended and she lunged at him.
Spider-Man fires a web but Black Cat jumps causing it to hit the wall. Running across the web Black Cat delivers a kick to the face knocking Spider-Man backwards.
'Whoa, this thing is good.' Black Cat thought looking at the amulet.
Spider-Man picks himself up and growls. "I may not be as experienced as you are, but that's not gonna stop me."
"Come and try." Black Cat said giving the come here gesture.
Spider-Man rushes at her, but Black Cat jumps off him dodging with ease. Firing two webs in the air Spider-Man latches onto her legs and yanks her down allowing Spider-Man to punch her in the gut knocking her backwards.
"Didn't anyone ever tell you it's rude to hit girls?" Black Cat asks standing up.
"I could say the same to you only about stealing." Spider-Man said.
The two rushed at each other and clash. Spider-Man throws a series of punches and kicks, but Black Cat dodges all of them with the agility of a cat before punching Spider-Man in the gut causing him to stagger back before she kicks him in the face knocking him to the ground.
'Man I wish Anya was here to help.' Spider-Man thought.
"What's a matter Spidey? I thought nothing was gonna stop you." Black Cat taunts.
Spider-Man picks himself up and looks around. Firing a web he jumps on the roof surprising her. As the web latches onto the wall Spider-Man swings around to the other side and tackles Black Cat to the ground.
"How's that?" Spider-Man asks pinning Black Cat to the ground.
Black Cat looks at him and grins as she wraps her legs around his waist and flips him over so now she was on top and had her claws inches from his face.
"Sorry Spidey, you lose." Black Cat smirks leaving Spider-Man speechless. "I'm keeping the amulet, but I will give you a consolation prize." Black Cat lifts up the bottom part of his mask and gives him a kiss on the lips surprising him. "See you around." Black Cat said jumping off the roof leaving Spider-Man completely speechless.
Back at Ace's house Ace threw himself on the bed both humiliated at the loss and the kiss.
"Ugh." Ace groans as Stan walks by.
"I take it tonight didn't go well?" Stan assumes.
"Uncle Stan, I got my butt kicked. She got away." Ace groans as Stan walks over and puts a hand on his shoulder.
"Don't worry kiddo, you'll get her next time." Stan said.
"I wish I had Anya to back me up." Ace sighs.
"Ace, from failure you learn so much more than from success. You lost, but now you know what needs to be done." Stan said.
Ace nods understanding when his phone started to ring. "Hello?"
"Hey Ace, how'd patrol go?" Anya asks on the other line.
"Uh well." Ace pauses thinking about the kiss and blushes. "It was eventful."
"Well Ace listen maybe I was little too hasty with stopping the crime fighting. How about we try meeting up and just studying together after school before we go on patrol." Anya suggests surprising him.
"Yeah, after all we work better as a team." Anya said making him smile.
"Yeah, we do. I'll see you tomorrow Anya." Ace said hanging up.
Meanwhile at an apartment in Jump City Black Cat lands on a balcony and takes off her mask as she walks in.
"Whoo what a day." Felicia said as laid down on the couch. "That Spider-Man was interesting. Maybe I'll see him again." She smiled when her phone rang.
Walking over to pick it up she hears a familiar voice. "How's my little kitten?" A female voice asks causing Felicia to smile.
"Hello Selina." She said.
"How's Jump City? Did you get the amulet?" Selina asks.
"Sure did, I also had a run in with a new hero. He calls himself Spider-Man." Felica said.
"Ooh, new city and you already have a hero after you. Impressive." Selina smiles. "So, is he cute?"
"Maybe, he wears a mask so it's hard to tell." Felicia said.
"Sounds like me when I first met Batman. Just be sure if you go after him to be ready for anything he might give…even if he doesn't want to give it to you at first." Selina smirks causing her to blush.
"Hanging up now." Felicia said.
"Wait, wait, wait. Jokes aside I hope this new city goes well for you. You know I love my little kitten." Selina said.
Felicia pauses as she remembers a young girl version of herself on the streets of Gotham City until one day Catwoman found her. Taking her back to her house Selina trained Felicia in everything she knew helping her become Black Cat.
"Yeah I do…bye Mom." Felicia said hanging up. Looking at the amulet Felicia couldn't help but grin. "I hope I see you again real soon Spidey."
