A/N: I've been asked to update this so hope you enjoy the chapter.
The boys were still in the river, soaking wet. No one was talking to each other, so much for bonding then.
"I wish we were at the castle." Kook said breaking the silence.
The other defenders all agreed which was a first but then the silence returned between them until Gildar said, "I bet the river near the castle is warmer than this one."
Then Thorne realised something, "Guys this is a river."
"Looks like Captain Obvious has just passed over his crown." Skabb commented.
"Okay I know but think, we can't be that far away from the castle." Thorne said, "I reckon we came into this camp from that direction."
"I'm not getting you Thorny." Kook said confused.
"He means that this river must connect to the one by the castle." Tinkor explained.
"Dude, that's awesome." Vane said, "We can leave this crazy place and get to the castle."
"But what about our processions?" Skabb asked.
The defenders thought for a while then had a plan. The plan was that they travel down the river until they find some grass or land. Two of them get onto the land and find their way into the camp, get the processions and get back on the raft.
The defenders organised themselves onto the raft so the smallest defenders were at the front and the largest at the back. They decided that they had to use their arms to row as they had lost the oars.
"Land ahoy." Kook shouted 5 minutes later.
"We're not pirates Kook." Thorne stated.
They parked themselves next to the land. Now they had to decide who was going to get the processions.
"There's only one way we can do this." Skabb said, "Rock paper scissors."
The elimated defenders then had a rematch with each other to see who would be going.
"Okay, Kook and Thorne." Skabb said, "Of you go and please don't kill each other."
The pair carefully left the raft and went into the camp, nobody was out as far as them so they were safe but as they got towards the centre of the camp, it was getting busier and they had to hide behind bushes and trees.
"Hey Thorne." Kook whispered, "You see that hut there."
"Yeah."
"I think that's where the leaders keep the processions."
They waited until it was clear to move than made a run for it into the hut. Thorne quickly locked the door while Kook went to search for their things. He quickly found his sling shot, Tinkors device, and Gildar's mirror and soon Thorne found the rest. Thorne peeped from behind the blinds to see of the coast was clear.
"Okay move now." Thorne ordered and the pair began to run for it but was spotted by a nearby group.
"Oi guys, it the robbers who stole our raft." One of them shouted, "After them."
"Thorne, what do we do?" Kook asked.
"We run faster." Thorne instructed, "Also hide."
The pair jumped into the bushes and waited until the group ran past, then they got out and started running towards the raft. Eventually they got their and they were soon on their way.
They had no idea where they were going. They had to use Tinkors calculations. It didn't help that they were in the countryside so it all looked the same.
"My arm's getting tired." Kook complained.
"So is mine." Vane said.
Everyone stopped using their arms as oars and let the raft drift for a bit.
"So how is everyone?" Skabb asked.
"Good." Were the replies.
After that it was silent then Vane noticed something.
"Dudes, we're on the right track." He said pointing to a poster on a nearby road.
"That could be any road." Gildar said.
"No I remember that poster because it made me hungry."
"Everything makes you hungry."
"Also it was quite early on in the journey as well so along as we keep to this road we can find our own way home."
"Then how about we ditch the raft and walk along the road where there are signs."
They moored the raft then let it go after they said their goodbyes to it. Thorne then realised that they were talking to a raft and that they should get a move on if they wanted to get to the castle by night.
"I'm still wet." Kook replied, "My feathers have ruffled up."
"We're all wet." Gildar stated, "Hopefully, we're nearly home."
They saw that the sun was starting to set slowly and it seemed that they were walking for miles and miles.
"Are we there yet?" Tinkor asked.
"I don't know." Skabb replied.
"Yes." Thorne shouted, "Yes we are."
In the distance, sitting isolated from the town next to it was the Splatalot castle. The boys all celebrated when they realised that they had escaped the camp and were almost home.
They happily walked the last few miles then were in the town.
"I've never been so happy to see this town." Skabb said happily.
"Neither has Tinky." Tinkor said.
"We better hurry up and get back its almost dark." Vane pointed out.
"Race ya back." Kook shouted to the boys who chased after him through the town. People had strange looks on their face to why some people were dressed oddly and were soaking wet but they didn't care, they were almost home. They boys stopped running just before they got to the slight hill.
"Just the hill to go then we can put this horrible day behind us." Thorne said.
"It hasn't been that bad."
"I mean we pulled together in the end."
They finally arrived at the front door, it was only then that they realised they hadn't eaten anything since breakfast.
"Should we knock or run straight to the kitchen?" Gildar asked.
The boys decided to knock because if one of the girls found the boys in the kitchen they would most likely scream.
Skabb knocked on the door and Knightriss answered it.
"My dears, we were expecting you back tomorrow." She said opening the door so they could come in as she also noticed that they were dripping wet, "What happened?"
"Long story." Kook said, "But can we eat first, we haven't eaten anything since breakfast."
Knightriss let them eat first then instructed them to tell them what had happened. Once the boys had finished their lunch and dinner combined, they left the kitchen in a hurry and entered the living room to tell the girls there story but before they could Faetal said something, "Did you know what the council found in the river today? They found a raft. Honestly the things people chuck away in rivers these days."
All of the boys looked at each other and decided that maybe Thorne should do the talking as he would probably explain better how and why they arrived one day early. I would like to say there were no more argument between the boys from that day on but I would be lying as the next day. An angry alchemist realised that a bird had eaten all of his cereal.
